A Doak Road resident was arrested last Thursday for assisting a prisoner on work release escape. 45-year-old Melissa Ann Brewer is charged with assisting Chris Berry to escape from his job. She was then involved in a single vehicle crash on Doak Road. She is being held under a $100,000 bond. Berry was working for the Human Resource Agency when he escaped on Tuesday, May 3rd. The Human Resource Agency was distributing food in the Ada Wright Building on that day and was using inmate labor to distribute the food.
An inmate who walked away from work release last week has been located. According to Coffee County sheriff Steve Graves, Casey Barnes who was in jail on misdemeanor charges walked away from a work detail last week. He was captured Thursday in Moore County. The sheriff says Barnes is back in custody.
