The radio/cell tower at Hickerson, just off the Old Tullahoma Hwy, was broken into and copper plates were taken. The alarm came out just before one pm Tuesday. The thieves worked quickly and made off with approximately 24 pounds of copper belonging to DTC. Officials said it would cost about $2,000.00 to replace the copper and repair the wires. The most the thieves could get would be $72.00 at today’s prices.
According to Coffee County Sheriff’s investigator Sgt. Danny Ferrell, once the thieves started to cut the fence, an alarm sounded, and DTC and officials notified 911 dispatchers.
