The Coffee County Commission is asking the Tennessee Department of Transportation to fast-track a project that would widen a two-mile section of U.S. Highway 41 in Manchester near the AEDC Access Road. The commission has approved a letter of recommendation to TDOT requesting the widening of the highway south of the I-24 Exit 114, from the point where the five-lane roadway section ends near Asbury Road out to the AEDC Access Road. This 2-mile roadway is currently a two-lane highway. The idea for the letter came after a meeting with TDOT officials and county officials. According to Coffee County Mayor Gary Cordell, officials talked about the need to consider and fast-track this widening project. The county mayor said it was suggested that a letter of recommendation to TDOT from the county commission would speed up the process.
