The Manchester Board of Education is continuing their search for a Director of Schools. One person that is no longer in consideration is Jan Harris who was offered a job from Dade County Schools in Georgia. New applicants were Dr. Don McPherson, former superintendent of Alabama’s Coffee County Schools and Tim Tubbs, Lauderdale County, Alabama, assistant superintendent. Shelbyville Man facing charges of Attempted Child Rape and More
A 44-year-old Shelbyville man has been arrested for two counts of attempted child rape and two counts of solicitation of a minor. William “Gregg” Maupin was arrested during an undercover operation last week following a lengthy investigation. According to a release, Maupin’s arrest came after investigators learned of a suspicious posting on Craigslist via an online tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Maupin remains jailed on a $300,000 bond and is due in court March 9. Man Dies after Shooting in McMinnville
An altercation outside a McMinnville convenience store Saturday night ended in the shooting death of a Warren County man. Police say 32 year old Justin Nunley of Old Harrison Ferry Road was shot to death during an altercation with 41 year old David Morton of McMinnville. It happened at around 8:30pm Saturday night in the parking lot outside a convenience store. No charges have been filed. Manchester Police Searching for Missing Man
The Manchester Police Department is investigating a missing person, who was last seen in Manchester in early December. Benjamin J. Eleazer’s vehicle was found broken down in Marion County. He was given a ride to Manchester and dropped off in the Highway 41 South area near the Truckers Inn and Walmart area. Eleazer has not been seen since. Large Heroin Bust Made in Manchester
A drug raid on 1001 Lincoln St in Manchester late Wednesday night has resulted in one man being arrested. Blake Welch was charged and allegedly admitted to police that he had been selling Heroin. The Manchester Police Department seized around 95 grams of high grade heroin Wednesday night in the raid plus a large amount of cash and scales. The value of the drugs is over $30,000. Veteran Firefighter Injured in Tullahoma Fire
A Tullahoma firefighter was injured early Thursday while battling a house fire on Decherd Street. According to Fire Chief Richard Shasteen, there was light smoke showing when the firefighters first arrived at the scene. The small smoldering fire located in the attic appeared to have been burning for some time. According to the city officials, the smoldering fire had burned long enough to weaken the ceiling joist and as firefighters entered the attic, a 24 year veteran firefighter of the department fell through the attic to the first floor injuring his shoulder and back. Bond Reduction Denied in Coffee Co. Murder Case
Brittany Michelle Evans of Manchester was recently charged with second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault. After a court appearance on Wednesday, Judge Vanessa Jackson denied a request for Evans’ bond to be lowered. She will remain at the Coffee County Jail in a $50,000 bond in connection with the death of her newborn baby last year.
