Normandy Post Office Will Not Close

The U.S. Postal Service announced a plan this week that the Normandy post office and other rural facilities will remain open, but with reduced hours. The United States Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe stated that the agency is backing off its plan to close up to 3,700 low-revenue post offices, a list that included the location including Normandy. Citing strong community opposition, Donahoe said the agency will now whittle down full-time staff but maintain a part-time post office presence in rural areas, with access to retail lobbies and post office boxes. Stamp Out Hunger

On Saturday letter carriers in Manchester and Tullahoma will be delivering more than just packages and bills. They will also be delivering much-needed donations to area food pantries. The National Association of Letter Carriers, the union to which city letter carriers belong, will host its 20th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive on May 12. The food collected in the local area on Saturday will stay in the community. All the food carriers collect is given to Good Samaritan Food Bank, which then distributes the donations throughout the community. Students Take a Tour At Airport

226 Coffee County Middle School students were busy Thursday morning touring the Tullahoma Airport and the Beechcraft Museum during their adopt a pilot campaign. The students toured the hangars, visited with Lifeflight helicopter crew, toured the airport terminal and saw a cargo plane that was sitting on the tarmac that delivered parts for M-Tek in Manchester. Lady Raiders Win District Championship

For the 5th year in a row the Coffee County Lady Raiders are district champs. After a 6-3 come from behind win last night (Wednesday) over White County the ladies are District 6-AAA champions for the 3rd year in a row. Coffee County has never been beaten in the district after 33 games. The Lady Raiders fell behind 3-0 after the first half inning but came back to tie it at the end of one. Crash Hurts One On Old Highway

24 year-old Shannon Arnold crashed yesterday on the Old Manchester/Tullahoma Highway. Arnold was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center after she lost control of her vehicle in a curve on the narrow crooked road. Her vehicle struck a culvert, went airborne and came to rest against a tree on the passenger’s side. Tullahoma Firefighters had to cut the passenger door and remove Arnold from the vehicle. Man Let Go On Federal Charges

Federal charges against a Winchester man, who is also accused of 2010 double murder in Tullahoma, were dismissed Tuesday morning in federal court in Chattanooga. Marcus Wade, 42, of Elm Street, Winchester was arrested last February in Winchester on federal charges for distribution of crack cocaine and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. Tuesday morning the U.S. Attorney’s office announced the dismissal of the charges without prejudice, which means the charges could be brought up again. Winchester Police arrested Wade last February after officers allegedly learned that he was in possession of a firearm and crack cocaine....

Fischer USA Stainless Steel Tubing is now announcing not only an expansion of its current product line, but also a $4.5 million investment in new equipment as well as an expansion of its workforce later this year.
