A Tennessee company played an important role in Sunday’s record-breaking, supersonic jump from the edge of space. Dunlap-based Precision Aerodynamics made the parachute that Felix Baumgartner pulled after free falling for more than nine minutes. The Hickerson Fire Department was called out at 4:00 Saturday afternoon (Oct. 13, 2012) to a structure fire on Kingsway Lane. The Internal Revenue Service reminds taxpayers who filed for an income tax filing extension the deadline is today (Oct. 15, 2012). IRS spokesman Dan Boone in Nashville said 170,000 Tennesseans asked for more time to file their taxes. The agency hopes late payers will use the online electronic filing. So far this year, nearly 2.3 million taxpayers in the state have filed online — up about 6 percent from last year at this time. Chili Cook-Off Has Big 3rd Year
The 3rd annual Chili Cook-off put on by the Manchester Fire Department was another huge success on Saturday. The many, many people that attended saw 23 teams compete for $500 in prize money and nice trophies. Attendees paid $5 per spoon to taste all the great flavors of chili. The Manchester Police Department won “Best Overall”. Winning the “People’s Choice” was the Manchester Lions Club.
