Update On Injured Skydiver

Attendees at the “Red White and You” event in Winchester on Saturday saw something they were definitely not expecting. A skydiver hit power lines and fell to the ground. The accident occurred at 5 p.m. during the National Anthem at Winchester City Park, next to Tims Ford Lake. Three jumpers were involved in the descent. John Pitts, who hit the power lines was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was released on Sunday. Two Teenagers Busted Inside Area Church

Two teenagers’ late-night visits to Blankenship United Methodist Church are over. A Bedford County deputy woke them up Wednesday just before midnight after a security camera system was installed. The teens, a boy and girl, admitted entering the building numerous times since Monday, May 11, Deputy Trey Green said. Authorities were notified by the man overseeing the security system that the pair had entered and were inside the building. Unemployment Rate Down In Tennessee

Tennessee’s unemployment rate for the month of April was 6.0 percent, down three-tenths of a percentage point from the March rate of 6.3. That’s according to Tennessee Labor Commissioner Burns Phillips. The national unemployment rate for April was 5.4 percent, down slightly from the March rate of 5.5. Tennessee’s April unemployment rate is the third consecutive decline and is the lowest rate in seven years. Tullahoma Utilities Board Awarded RP3 Designation

For the fifth consecutive evaluation, Tullahoma Utilities Board (TUB) has been awarded the Reliable Public Power Provider (RP3) certification from the American Public Power Association (APPA). TUB is one of 94 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities to earn the RP3 recognition from APPA for providing consumers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service. Local Students Awarded Scholarships

The Middle Tennessee Association of REALTORS® (MTAR) recently presented college scholarships to seven high school seniors in the 8-county area served by the Association. Two of the scholarships awarded were presented to Coffee County High School graduating seniors at their senior awards ceremony. These students were chosen from 79 applications in the 8-county area. Memorial Day Event Held In Manchester

A Memorial Day remembrance of fallen soldiers and honoring local veterans was held in Manchester on Monday. The annual event was again attended by a large crowd. Something new this year were signs with pictures and names of fallen soldiers and veterans still living in the area. Ulysses Ray Jr who fought in Japan during WWII accepted the memorial sword passed down by Sgt. Buster Bush who received the sword last year. Graduation was held Friday night for Coffee County High School seniors. A crowd estimated to be over 5,000 saw 373 graduates accept their diplomas.
