Services Held For Sheriff’s Department Captain
Funeral services for Captain Jeffery Lynn McCullough, age 58, of Manchester, was conducted Sunday, at Main Street Church of Christ in Manchester. Jeff passed away suddenly on last Wednesday afternoon at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester, TN. He was a Captain for the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, where he was also Captain of the CCSD Honor Guard. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. I-24 Crash Injures Four People From Illinois
Around 6:20am Tuesday morning a 2012 Chevy Sedan was traveling westbound in the left lane around mile-marker 102 on I-24. According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, a witnesses stated that the vehicle was driving erratically, attempted to avoid a tractor trailer in the left lane, traveled off the left side of the roadway, overcorrected and traveled across the interstate onto the right shoulder, and ran off the roadway and into a tree. Earlier this week Tennessee State Trooper Jason Boles observed an open beer can sitting next to a vehicle getting gas at the Kangaroo store near Exit 114. Upon walking over the passenger in the vehicle admitted to setting the beer down on the ground. The officer then went to talk with the driver, Jacob Wayne Sneed age 26 of Paoli, IN. New Principal At Westwood Elementary–Westwood Middle Students At National Jr Beta Club Convention
Thomas Fuhrman has resigned effective June 30 as principal of Westwood Elementary in Manchester. Thomas was principal of the school from 2013-2015. He replaced long time principal, Sandra Morris, who is currently the director of schools for Manchester City. Fuhrman has accepted a position with Putnam County Schools as principal of Jere Whitson Elementary. Melissa Glenn has been named new principal of Westwood Elementary. Glenn has served as principal of Maury City Elementary in Crockett County, Tennessee since 2009. New Tullahoma Aerospace Center of Excellence Banners Unveiled
At Monday’s Mayor of Board and Alderman meeting, Alderman Mike Stanton unveiled Dream Tullahoma’s new street banners that brand Tullahoma as an Aerospace Center of Excellence. Dream Tullahoma Partnered with the Tullahoma Arts Council to coordinate a design contest. The winning design was created by Allison Lee. Second place went to Gwen Diller. The city purchased most of the 41 banners with United Technologies and Blood Assurance purchasing some as well. No Wheel Tax or Property Tax Increase At This Time– County Schools Additional Funding Request Denied
The Coffee County Commission met on Tuesday night to discuss the county budget. The county school system had originally asked for $1.4 million above last year’s budget plus other departments were asking for extra funding. After budget and finance meetings took place it came down to the county school system looking at possibly getting $300,000 additional funding for the 2015-16 school year. With matching funds that are required by law to be split between the Manchester and Tullahoma school systems, the actual request was for $600,000. Report Says Manchester Hospitals To Merge July 1
Last July we reported that United Regional Medical Center (“URMC”) and Medical Center of Manchester (“MCM”) were taking the first steps towards a potential combination of the two hospitals. We can now report that the merger will take place on July 1. According to the Manchester Times, most of the public has been asking about the services the hospitals would provide and what location will remain open. The report says, most hospital functions will take place at the Medical Center located on Interstate Drive including the emergency room and the 49 bed hospital.
