More Razors Stolen From Area Walmart Stores

Three women recently entered the South Rutherford Boulevard Walmart in Murfreesboro and allegedly stole over $2,000 in razors. The trio took various brands and sizes before leaving without paying for a single blade. The store later received a notification from their corporate office that similar thefts have occurred at other stores. The three women fled the Murfreesboro store in a gold minivan with an out of state tag. Reports indicate the three may have hit stores in Springfield, Tennessee and Hendersonville, Tennessee as well. The University of Tennessee is getting a $963,000 grant to encourage students in rural counties to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, math and medical science. The program will start this fall and mainly target students in Campbell and Union counties. It will engage students in activities that help them learn more about strengths and interests and explore potential barriers they may encounter in attending college, as well as career options in STEMM fields. Man Who Allegedly Pulled Knife and Lunged At Local Deputy Was In Court Thursday

A preliminary hearing for Robert Travis Rosson was held on Thursday. Judge Jere Ledsinger lowered Rosson’s bond from $500,000 to $75,000 and his case was bound over to the August term of the grand jury. He is accused of pulling a knife and allegedly lunging at a Coffee County Sheriff’s deputy on June 11. The deputy, Phillip Smith, then fired 3 shots at him, striking him in the shoulder and the thigh. TDOT Celebrating 100 Years

The Tennessee Department of Transportation is celebrating its centennial by placing a time capsule in a new granite memorial at Bicentennial Mall. The time capsule is to be opened after another 100 years, on July 1, 2115. The agency says it contains photos of current employees, a 2015 highway map and a hard hat belonging to the Transportation Commissioner. The department says employees and industry partners paid for the capsule and memorial through donations.
