New Form of Lice Appearing in Tennessee

According to a new study from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, a new and potentially drug-resistant species of lice is showing up on the heads of children in at least 25 states, including Tennessee. Ninety-five percent of lice populations collected from 30 states tested positive for a mutation that’s resistant to over-the-counter treatments. These mutations are reportedly caused by widespread use of insecticides used to kill everything from mosquitoes to bed bugs. So, if you’re a parent, what can you do to protect your kids? We have an update on the robbery at Rite Aid in Manchester. At approximately 6:05 PM Tuesday Manchester Police was dispatched to Rite Aid, located at 701 Hillsboro Blvd in regards to a subject causing a disturbance. Assistant Chief Adam Floied and Coffee County Deputy Charlie Taylor were nearby at the time of the call. Bonnaroo, the annual music and arts festival held on farmland in Manchester, Tenn., has announced its 2016 dates. It will make its usual four-day run from June 9-12, 2016. It will be the festival’s 15th year. So far, there is no information on tickets for 2016 on Bonnaroo’s website. Bonnaroo began in 2002 and brings in 70,000 to 100,000 attendees each year. Tourism spending in Tennessee reached a record $17.7 billion in 2014 as more than 100 million people visited the state. The spending represents a 6 percent increase over the previous year, while tourism-related jobs grew by nearly 3 percent to 152,900 positions. State and local sales tax revenue from the tourism industry were more than $1.5 billion, and international travel increased more than 8 percent to $577 million. Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd said in a news release the Rural Development Task Force is being created to help rural areas of the state reach the same economic success as urban areas.
