Softball Camp At Motlow

Motlow Lady Bucks head softball coach Tori Raby-Gentry has begun accepting registration for two softball camps that will be held July 16-18 at the Motlow softball complex on the Moore County campus.
The first session is for girls 12 years old and younger and will be held from 9 a.m. until noon. The second session will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and is for girls 13 years old and older.
The cost of each session is $50 per camper, although discounts will be considered for families with more than one camper. Registration forms are available on the Motlow athletics web site at MotlowSports.com.
Raby-Gentry and her team will help campers develop fundamental skills in pitching, defense, hitting, bunting, and base running. All participants will receive a free camp T-shirt.

Belmont Moves To OVC

Belmont University is officially part of the Ohio Valley Conference.
After 11 years in the Atlantic Sun Conference, Belmont’s effective date in the OVC was Sunday.
The program’s accomplishments in the Atlantic Sun Conference include 36 ASC championships, 12 NCAA Tournament appearances and national top 25 poll votes in baseball, men’s basketball and women’s basketball.
Belmont’s first regular season contest as an OVC member takes place on Aug. 19, when the women’s soccer team plays at Toledo.
The Bruins will compete with teams like Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State, UT-Martin and others.

Babe Ruth Championship Is Monday (July 2)

The Manchester Babe Ruth League will have their championship game tonight (July 2) starting at 6:30pm at Fred Deadman Park. The game will match the Reds against the regular season champs the Yankees.

Try-Outs Set For Coffee County Golf

The Coffee County Red Raider golf teams will have tryouts for the 2012 season at Willowbrook beginning Monday July 9th at 8am. This is for both the boy’s and girl’s teams. Must have completed physical form with signatures or you will not be allowed to try out. Call Coach Ray at 931-247-4156 for more information.

Preds In Nashville Through At Least 2028

The Predators have secured their spot in Nashville. The Metro Sports Authority approved a new lease and use agreement for the Bridgestone Arena Friday morning. The new deal relies more on incentives than guaranteed dollars. Metro cut back on the amount of subsidy coming from the city’s general fund by $1.3 million. Nashville Sports Authority members feel Predators management has done their part to boost team support, claiming a rank of sixth in nation for arena attendance. The new contract runs through 2028

Single Game Tickets For Titans Games

Single game tickets for all 2012 Tennessee Titans home games will go on sale on Friday, August 3 at 10 a.m.

Tickets range from $35 to $105 and can be purchased at the LP Field box office, through Ticketmaster or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

The Titans’ upcoming season includes games against Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago and the New York Jets.

The preseason home games will be against Arizona on August 23 and New Orleans on August 30.

LP Field has gone under a multi-million dollar renovation, which includes the installation of state of the art video boards and elevators to the upper deck since the end of last season.

Predator News

The Nashville Predators have made qualifying offers to 10 players, including Shea Weber, Alexander Radulov and Sergei Kostitsyn.
The preds also made offers to 7 others are Jonathon Blum.
It appears the Nashville Predators are parting ways with 29-year-old forward Jordin Tootoo.
According to his agent, Tootoo will not receive a contract extension from the Preds, and he’ll become an unrestricted free agent Sunday.

Tootoo has spent his entire career with the Preds and has become a fan favorite for his scrappy play.
This past season he reached a career high for points and assists but was benched during the playoffs.
Tootoo made his debut with the team in 2005.

New Broadcast Team Joins Our Sister Station

Veteran sports broadcaster Scott Shasteen has been named Sports Director of our sister station WHMT radio in Tullahoma. Station General Manager Deuce Anderson made the announcement this morning from the station’s studio inside Northgate Mall.

Shasteen will begin his duties at the station July 1, and his first broadcast is scheduled for Monday, July 9 at 6 p.m., when he and long-time broadcasting partner Binns Jordan will begin the fifth season of their ‘High School Sports Plus’ talk show. The show was a finalist for ‘Talk Show of the Year’ by the Tennessee Associated Press in 2009.

All WHMT sports broadcasts will now be presented under the new Tullahoma Sports Network banner. Shasteen will handle play-by-play duties for Tullahoma High School football, basketball, baseball and softball with Jordan as his analyst.

Motlow Athletes Honored By NJCAA

Four Motlow College student-athletes were recently named as 2012 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Exemplary Academic Achievement Honorees.
Baseball players Shaw Dickerson from Dyersburg, Zach White from Lawrenceburg, and Jacob Honea from Tullahoma were joined by softball player Morgan Hemmingsen from Woodlawn.
The NJCAA awards student-athletes each year for academic achievement. The Exemplary Academic Achievement award goes to student-athletes with a grade-point average between 3.60 – 3.79 based on a 4.00 scale.
Over 1,680 NJCAA student-athletes met the requirements for individual academic honors.
Nearly 60,000 student-athletes competed in the NJCAA for the 2011-2012 academic year on over 3,500 teams in 28 different sports.
The 2011-2012 season marks the 29th year the NJCAA has recognized the success of its student-athletes in the classroom. With minimal changes, the NJCAA academic awards program has been in place since 1983.

Cancer Run Big Success

The Second Annual Colors of Cancer 5K Run & Family Walk was held Saturday June 23 2012 at the Manchester Recreation Center. With a total number of 124 participants, the event was a blazing success as the final activity affiliated with the Coffee County Relay for Life this year. They had entries from as far away as Bowling Green KY and Grovetown GA and ages from 5 to 80 years old! A great time was had as we joined forces to raise funds and awareness in our community.
