On beautiful Wednesday afternoon the Coffee County Lady Raiders traveled to McMinnville to play Warren County in softball in front of the Pioneer student body.
Junior Pitcher Brianna Jones was outstanding for Coffee County as she struck out 12 Lady Pioneers on her way to a 5-0 no-hit win. Jones also added an RBI. Bethany Baker added 2 RBI for the Lady Raiders. Jones was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game.
Coffee County is on the road at Franklin County Thursday night at 7pm.

The Coffee County Red Raider baseball team could not avoid the season sweep at the hands of Columbia on Wednesday afternoon, falling by a final of 8 to 1. Tyler Cavender swung the hot bat for Coffee County as he was 2 for 3 with a solo home run. Zack Holder and Peyton Meeker were 1 for 3 on the night. Meeker got the loss for Coffee County striking out 8. The Raiders will travel to Murfreesboro on Friday as they will take on Central Magnet at StarPlex. Game time is 5:00 PM

The Westwood Soccer Rockets got a big conference win over Cascade on Wednesday afternoon by a final of 4 to 0. Paco Barrera had 2 goals for Westwood and Otto Pause added one as well. The Rockets offense kept the pressure on Cascade all afternoon forcing the Champions into an own goal. Keeper William Anderson got his 4th shutout of the year for Westwood. With the win, Westwood finished the conference season undefeated. The Rockets begin the Duck River Valley Conference Tournament next week as the #1 seed. Pairings and dates will be announced soon.

The Motlow Lady Bucks have an opportunity to finish among the top six teams in the Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA) softball standings, but in order to do that they need to win this weekend’s home series against Jackson State.
The Lady Bucks (14-28, 8-20) will welcome the visiting Lady Generals (4-32, 4-24) to the Moore County campus this weekend for a four-game series. Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and Saturday’s twin bill will start at noon.
Motlow has dropped 10 games in a row; including a non-conference doubleheader against defending national champion Wallace State 8-4, 10-1 on Tuesday.

Coffee County hosted Columbia in District 8-AAA baseball Tuesday night at Powers Field. The Lions grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first but Raiders hit the ball very well and tied the game on a run in the 2nd and one more in the 4th. Trace Friedlein and Kyle Douglas had RBI hits. Columbia added a run in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th for 6-2 win.
Zach Holder was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game as he went 4 for 4 at the plate.
Coffee County and Columbia will each other again Wednesday in Columbia starting at 4pm.

Last night’s Coffee County softball game was postponed. The home game against Shelbyville will be made up Wednesday April 23. The game at Lawrence County that was postponed Monday night will be made up on Wednesday April 16.
The Lady Raiders play at Warren County Wednesday (April 9) beginning at 1pm. Thunder Radio will broadcast the game starting with pre-game show at 12:50pm.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is accepting welcoming comments for its 2015 fishing regulations.
Public comments will be considered by fisheries managers and may be presented as proposals for regulation changes.
Comments may be submitted by mail to: Fish Comments, TWRA, Fisheries Management Division, P.O. 40747, Nashville, TN 37204 or emailed to TWRA.Comment@tn.gov.
Please include “Fish Comments” on the subject line of emailed submissions.
The fishing regulations are usually set each year during the October meeting by the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission.
This comment period concerning fishing regulations will be open until May 6, 2014.

Monday afternoon the Coffee County baseball team traveled to Murfreesboro to take on McCallie School out of Chattanooga. The game was played at MTSU.
The Blue Tornado took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning and improved that to 4-0 in the bottom of the 2nd. In the top of the 5th the Raiders pushed across two runs on a fly ball by Tyler Cavender and a single by Zach Holder. In the bottom half of the 5th McCallie scored two more times to grab a 6-2 lead. Coffee County charged from behind to plate 4 runs in the 7th to tie the game. Hunter Smithson hit a double that locked up the score. The game moved into an extra inning and the Raiders got an RBI double from Canveder for a 7-6 lead. The Blue Tornado roared back in the 8th with 2 runs for an 8-7 win.
Coffee County at 9-8 on the year will host Columbia in District 8-AAA action Tuesday night at 6pm at Powers Field.

The Motlow Bucks baseball team won one out of three over the weekend at Cleveland State. Bucks beat the Cougars 5-4 and lost 2-1, 11-1. Motlow (31-16, 12-9) is scheduled to play Volunteer State Tuesday at 4pm in Gallatin.

The Lady Raider softball team welcomed Warren County to Lady Raider Field on Friday afternoon in a non-district game. The Lady Raiders got on the board with 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning and coasted to a 14 to 4 win. Bethany Baker got the win with a complete game performance surrounding 5 hits. Baker also helped the Lady Raiders at the plate with 3 hits and 2 RBI. Brittany Williams had 2 hits and knocked in 4 runs and Shelby Giles added 2 RBI. Williams was named the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game. With the win, Coffee County improved to 12 and 6 on the season.
The Lady Raiders travel to Lawrence County on Monday for a big district game that begins at 7:00 PM.

Coffee County junior Trace Friedlein pitched a no-hitter on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough as Coffee County fell 2 to 0 to LaVergne in a non-district baseball matchup. Friedlein pitched a masterful game for the Raiders striking out 4, but could not get offensive or defensive support taking the hard luck loss from the Wolverines. Coffee County’s defense made 4 errors on the afternoon, giving LaVergne 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 6th inning and that was all they needed. The Red Raiders will be back in action on Monday as they take on McCallie School in a 5:30 PM game being played at MTSU.

Bradley Central visited Carden-Jarrell Field on Friday night as the soccer opponent for the Red Raiders on Alumni Night. The visiting Bears got a goal in the 25th minute on a penalty kick to notch a 1 to 0 lead into the half. A physical 2nd half saw the Raiders control the time of possession and shots taken, but a 45 yard missile off the foot of Cole Hawkins on a direct kick to salvage the draw in the 75th minute. All the former CHS soccer players in attendance were recognized in a halftime ceremony and 2013 graduate Ricky Ramirez was the first CHS soccer player to be inducted in the CHS Soccer Hall of Fame. Ramirez, who said he was “shocked and honored” at the recognition is the all-time leading scorer in Red Raider soccer history with 51 goals. The Raiders will be on the road next week during spring break as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to take on Mountain Brook High School on Thursday.

The Westwood soccer team got four 2nd half goals to beat South Lincoln 5 to 1 on Friday afternoon in Fayetteville. Tied at 1 at the half, Westwood settled down in the second half to dominate the action. Paco Barerra and Ethan Abplanalp each scored two goals for the Rockets and Juan Carlos Penaloza added a goal as Cameron Kistler had 2 assists for Westwood. Westwood will be in action on Wednesday as they travel to Cascade for a 4:30 match.

In a battle of middle school baseball rivals, Coffee Middle got a 19 to 1 win over the Rockets of Westwood on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Coffee County Classic. The Red Raiders sent 15 batters to the plate in the first inning scoring 11 runs on 5 hits and 5 walks. Alontae Taylor got the big hit in the inning with a 2 RBI double and also got the victory on the mound for the Red Raiders. Jeremiah Franklin got 1 of the 2 hits for the Rockets and scored their lone run. Carlos Medina also had a single for Westwood.

In their next game the Coffee Middle baseball team scored 6 runs in the 6th inning to break open a tight game with Lincoln County and carry the Raiders to a 12 to 3 win. Coffee Middle racked up 11 hits on the game, including 7 in the decisive 6th inning. Cody Miller swung the hot stick for the Raiders going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Alontae Taylor had a 2 RBI double and 3 walks, A. J. Rollman was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored while Garrett Booth was 2 for 4 with a double. Nathaniel Tate and Alontae Taylor combined to pitch 4 hitter as each struck out 4 batters.

The Westwood Rockets baseball team dropped a 7 to 2 decision on Saturday morning in the Coffee County Classic to Lincoln County. The Rockets banged out 9 hits, but could not string them together. Hunter Courtoy was 2 for 2, Carlos Medina was 2 for 3 and Jeremiah Franklin was 2 for 4 for Westwood. The Rockets got an RBI each from Cade Myers and Jonathan Sherrill. Medina had 8 strikeouts for Westwood.
In the afternoon contest, Jeremiah Franklin was 2 for 2 and Hunter Courtoy was 1 for 2, but that was all the hits Westwood could muster against Christiana falling 21 to 2.

Westwood and Coffee Middle locked horns in an epic baseball battle in the semi-finals of the Coffee County Classic on Saturday night won by the Raiders 5 to 4. Westwood notched single runs in the top of the first inning and top of the second before adding 2 more runs in the top of the 4th inning to storm out to a 4 to 0 lead. Carlos Medina, the Westwood pitcher, kept the Red Raider batters off balance striking out 7 on the night. But the Coffee Middle team tied it in the bottom of the 5th on 4 consecutive hits and a hit batter notching the final run on an RBI squeeze bunt from Harley Hindshaw which scored Cody Miller. Westwood threatened to retake the lead in the top of the 6th, but Hindshaw pitched out of a jam setting up the dramatic final half inning. A.J. Rollman got on with one out on a bloop hit over the first baseman’s head. After stealing 2nd and 3rd, Alontae Taylor got a 2 out infield single to score Rollman and give the Raiders their 12th win on the year. Hindshaw got the win for Coffee Middle coming into the game in the 3rd inning. Coffee Middle was led in hitting by Rollman and Taylor who each went 3 for 4. Taylor had a double and 2 RBI, including the game winner. Medina took the hard luck loss for the Rockets and led the team in hitting going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Hunter Courtoy continued his hot streak at the plate going 2 for 4 on the night. Jeremiah Franklin got on base twice by getting hit by pitches and scored 2 runs.

A nine run 3rd inning for the Coffee Middle baseball team blew open a tight game and gave the Raiders their 4th consecutive come from behind victory on the weekend and the championship of the inaugural

Coffee County Classic over Christiana, 13-3. Nathaniel Tate had a single and a double and 3 RBI in that pivotal 3rd inning. Tates performance, added to the 5 walks and 2 Cougar errors, sealed the outcome and improved the Raiders record to 13 and 3 on the year. Alontae Taylor got the victory for Coffee Middle as he went 3 strong innings allowing just 2 hits. Jacob Langham came on in relief throwing 3 hitless innings for the Raiders. Taylor was 3 for 3 on the game with an RBI leading a Red Raider attack that banged out 11 hits. Coffee Middle travels to Woodbury on Thursday to take on Cannon County. That game is set to start at 5:00 PM.

The CHS JV baseball team split a pair of games in Murfreesboro on Saturday. In the first game, the Red Raiders defeated LaVergne 6 to 1. Dylan McCormick pitched a complete game for the win. Gavin Husted had a triple in 2 at bats with 3 RBI to lead the Raider hitters. Brandon Haston and Davis Green each had RBI singles and Peyton Booth was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Raiders dropped a 9 to 3 decision to Blackman. Noah Anderson was 2 for 2 on the day while Zach Wise was 2 for 3. Alan Rob added a double for Coffee County.
The JV team will be back in action on Monday as they play host to Riverdale for a doubleheader. The first game will begin at 5 at Powers Field.
