Braves Acuna late scratch from Wednesday lineup
Braves OF Ronald Acuña was scratched two hours before Wednesday’s game against the Mets and received treatment for what manager Brian Snitker described as “wear and tear.” Snitker said Acuña could be back in the lineup as early as Thursday.
“Sometimes, I think, we get in these different hotels and the beds are different,” Snitker said. “It’s just enough that they don’t want him to play today. They’re working on him right now; we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”

Titans’ RB Henry focused on improving with hard work, sweat
Derrick Henry has led the NFL in rushing two years in a row.
He’s been a workhorse when the team has needed him, a tone-setter on the field and in the locker room.
So, it came as no surprise when Henry was asked this week about the challenge facing him and the offense after such a successful season in 2020, his answer focused on hard work.
“I don’t think we are looking at, ‘What’s the new challenge?’,” Henry said. “I think it’s just us trying to be better at everything we do as far as on offense, individually, collectively, and just growing, and helping each other grow. Just competing, holding each other accountable and doing the things we need to do as a team while we are away, and when we get back here, just try to put it together….

SOFTBALL: Lady Raiders come out on top in scrimmage against Rockvale

The journey to the 2022 softball state tournament has already begun for the Coffee County Central High School Lady Raiders.
Less than a month after placing second in the state of Tennessee, the Lady Raider softball team was back at it on Tuesday, taking on Rockvale in a friendly summer scrimmage in Manchester.
Although the score doesn’t mean much – the Lady Raiders did come out on top 9-4 over 10 innings.
Nine different Lady Raiders were able to contribute to the hit column, a mix of familiar faces and some newcomers. Picking up hits were Brianna Shelton, Willow Carden, Olivia Evans, Kara Wheeler, Samantha Cothran, Chesnie Cox, Paisley Campbell, Savannah Cooper and Kara Beth Patton. Shelton was also able to draw a walk and scored a pair of runs. Carden, Evans, Campbell, Cooper, Ava McIntosh, Katelyn Anderson and Aleayia Barnes all crossed the plate for the Lady Raiders.
Haidyn Campbell started in the circle for CHS and struck out 2 over two innings of work without allowing a run. Rising junior Kaitlyn Davis nearly mirrored that stat line, striking out two and allowing a hit and no runs. Newcomers Channah Gannon, Anderson and Cothran all worked two innings. Cothran struck out three and walked two. Two runs scored on both Gannon and Anderson, but none of those runs were earned.
The Lady Raiders won’t be in action again until after the TSSAA mandated dead period. They will travel to Smyrna on July 13 and return home on July 14 to host Riverdale. Both of those scrimmages begin at 5 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.

Titans add DB Peterson after workout
The Titans have agreed to terms with defensive back Kevin Peterson, who took part in this week’s minicamp in a tryout basis.
To make room on the roster, the Titans waived linebacker Justus Reed.
Peterson, who has spent time with the Bears, Rams and Cardinals, has played in 32 career games. He’s been credited with 39 tackles, two interceptions and nine passes defensed.
Peterson (5-11, 185) played in 12 games with the Cardinals in 2020, and in 26 games with Arizona over the past two seasons. He initially joined the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2016 after playing in college at Oklahoma State. He played in six games for the Rams in 2017.
In his final season at Oklahoma State in 2015, Peterson was a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist, as he earned First Team All-Big 12 honors while being named a team captain.
