The Coffee County Lady Raider volleyball program has a good relationship with Eagleville as they trade out matches on their opponents home floor in front of the student body. After hosting the Lady Eagles back on August 26th, it was the Lady Raiders turn to play in front of the Eagleville student body. The Lady Raiders fared no better on the road then they did at home as they dropped the rematch in straight sets on Wednesday afternoon. Offensively, the Lady Raiders cut down on the number of service errors as they hit only 8, but the caution in the service game only resulted in 7 service aces for the Lady Raiders. Defensively, the Lady Raiders managed to pull 30 digs on the match, but those resulted in only 9 assists and 12 kills as the passing game was less than spectacular.
Kaylee Skipper led the team in digs with 8 digs. Maddie Taylor added 7 digs and was tied for the team lead in assists with Bailey Morgan as each had 3 assists. Aerial Williams led Coffee County in Kills with 3 while Diana Davis and Peyton Nicoll each had 2 kills. Sophomores Sarah Pearson and Tyana Fenton led Coffee County in the service game as each had 2 aces and committed no service errors. The Lady Raiders are back on the road on Thursday night as they travel to take on Shelbyville. The JV match is scheduled for 5 PM with the varsity team getting underway at 6.

CHS Soccer Blanks Warren County on Tuesday Night

CHS freshman soccer player Allie Amado

CHS freshman soccer player Allie Amado

An Alli Amado goal in the 18th minute, coupled with an outstanding defensive performance from the Lady Raider defense and keeper Ali Shelton, lifted the CHS Lady Raider soccer team to a 1 to 0 win over Warren County on Tuesday night.  After a shaky start that forced Shelton to stop 4 Warren County shots, the Lady Raiders pressed the attack resulting in Amado’s goal off of a beautiful feed from the left wing by Eliza Masters.  Coffee County controlled the middle of the field, especially in the middle 40 minutes of the contest as they outshot the Lady Pioneers 15 to 7 going into the last 20 minutes.

As the game became more physical down the stretch, Warren County was able to take more shots but had only 2 real chances to tie the game.  An apparent Warren County goal in the 63rd minute was waved off due to an offside call and a 3 shot volley in the 72nd minute saw Shelton get 2 heroic saves before Warren County sailed a shot over the crossbar to kill the rally.  Shelton finished the night with 9 saves while Coffee County had 16 shots with 14 of them being on frame.   The Lady Raiders travel to Shelbyville on Thursday night for a 7 PM district match.

Needing to close the gap from “almost there” to “there” has been the focus of Coach Andrew Taylor with his CHS Lady Raider volleyball team.  Tuesday night they welcomed district foe Lawrence County to “The Patch”.  The pesky Lady Wildcats gave Coffee County a scare before the Lady Raiders prevailed in 5 sets.  The Lady Raiders were able to work their offense effectively as they scored 42 aces on the match off of 33 assists.  At the service line, Coffee County had 19 aces with 15 service errors on the match.  Defensively, Coffee County was credited with 3 blocks and 46 digs.

Leaders for Coffee County in aces was Tyanna Fenton as she scored 8 aces.  Diana Davis had 11 kills and 12 digs to lead in both of those categories.   Fenton added 11 digs while Maddie Taylor had 8 digs and led the team in assists with 22.  Logan Carr, Aerial Williams and Grace Spellings each had a block for the Lady Raiders while Peyton Nicoll and Kaylee Skipper joined Williams with 7 kills apiece.  The Lady Raiders travel to Eagleville on Wednesday for an “In-School” game before the Eagleville student body.  First serve is set for 1:30 PM.
