CCMS Volleyball Falls to Warren County on Thursday Night

After taking the first set by a score of 25 to 17, the CCMS volleyball team saw Warren County take the next 2 sets to claim the match win in McMinnville on Thursday. The Lady Pioneers eked out a 26 to 24 win in the 2nd set before clinching the match with a 15 to 9 decision in the decisive 3rd set. The Lady Raiders got 4 aces from Elizabeth Proffitt while Abigail Parker and Keri Munn each added an ace. Parker, Munn and Sarah West had Coffee County’s only 3 kills in the match while Amanda Mukai led the Raiders in assists with 2. The Lady Raiders close out the season on Friday with a 5 PM match at Eagleville.

The Liberty Patriots scored 40 first half points while only having 3 offensive snaps to drop the Westwood Rockets football team 52 to 6 in Thursday’s Homecoming game at Dyer-Bouldin Field. Liberty returned a Westwood fumble on the opening kickoff for a touchdown and also returned 2 interceptions for touchdowns as the Rockets could not get a big play of their own. Westwood scored a 4th quarter touchdown on a 13 yard TD run from Trenton Thompson. Thompson finished the night with 3 carries for 55 yards. Henry Garcia had 1 run for 51 yards while Jacob Floyd rushed 15 times for 46 yards. In the halftime homecoming festivities, Floyd was named the Homecoming King while Carlee Sullivan was crowned the Homecoming Queen . Westwood concludes their season on Thursday, October 1st, as they travel to Eagleville. That game is set to kick off at 6:30 PM.

Coffee County Does Well at Home Meet on Tuesday

The Red Raider boys’ cross country team finished 2nd out of 11 teams in their home meet at the Old Stone Fort golf course on Tuesday. James Lynn finished 2nd and Andy Rosson finished 7th out of 116 runners. Coffee County’s Red Raiders finished 2nd on the day behind Warren County.

Final team results were: Warren Co. 61 Coffee Co. 84 Grundy Co. 87 Shelbyville 117 Smyrna 156 Community 168 St. Andrews 174 Blackman 189 Cascade 218 Tullahoma 230 Franklin Co. 259.

The Red Raider thinclads finished as follows (points for the top five used for scoring): James Lynn 2nd Andy Rosson 7th Edgar Marceleno 19th Bradley Kishpaugh 24th Neil Slone 32rd Ben Reid 48th Reuben Chaput 53rd.

For the Lady Raiders, Byanka Woods and Makenzie Morgan finished 11th and 12th, and Jasmine Farrar and Katie Folke finished 31st and 34th out of 54 runners. Team scores for the girls were as follows: Tullahoma 79 Blackman 81 Shelbyville 115 Smyrna 124 Community 150 Franklin Co. 153.

Coffee County, Warren County, St. Andrews, Grundy County, and Cascade did not have enough runners to field complete teams. The Coffee County middle school boys had a strong showing as Larson Meltzer finished 5th and Ethan Welch finished 26th out of 55 runners.  The Red Raider runners travel to Sewanee on Thursday for a 4 PM meet at St. Andrew’s-Sewanee.

The Rocket and Lady Rocket cross country teams posted some good times on Tuesday in the Coffee County Meet held at the site of the former Old Stone Fort golf course.  For the Rockets, Andres Cavalie’s kick came up just short at the finish line in the boys race as he ended up finishing 2nd.  Samuel Workman finished 11th, Corey Walker was 17th, Renalto Ayala finished in 18th and Lukas Workman was 19th.  Westwood finished in 3rd place behind Cannon County and Whitworth-Buchanan.

The Lady Rockets got a 25th place finish from Zoe Mills as the Lady Rockets finished 4th behind Cannon County, Whitworth-Buchanan and North Franklin.  Rounding out the scoring for Westwood were Liz Martinez in 29th place, Hallie Wimberly 30th, Sunshine Mai 31st and Brayden Gray in 36th place.  The Westwood thinclads travel to Fayetteville on Tuesday for a 4:00 PM meet.

Trailing 15 to 11 in the 3rd set, the Coffee County Lady Raider volleyball team rallied back to claim a 25 to 21 set win and a straight set match victory over Tullahoma on Tuesday night.  The Lady Raiders had dominated the match prior to the third set winning the first 2 sets 25-16 and 25-14.  Strong net play saw Coffee County score 20 kills on the match in the Senior Night victory.  Dianna Davis led the team in kills with 6, while Aerial Williams added 5 kills and Maddie Taylor snuck across 3 winners.  Davis also led the Lady Raiders in aces with 8, including 6 in a row during the 2nd set.  Makayla Morgan and Kaylee Skipper each had 3 aces all of them coming in the final set.  Taylor led the team in assists with 9 while Davis led Coffee County in digs with 5.  The win improves the Lady Raiders district record to 6 and 2 on the season.  Coffee County will be at home on Saturday as they host the Southern Slam tournament at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym.  Matches begin at 9 AM.

A 6 to 2 win over South Franklin helped lift the Coffee County Middle School Lady Raider soccer team to their second consecutive CTC regular season title on Tuesday night in Winchester.  Five Lady Raiders found the back of the net in the contest as Coffee County raced out to a 4 to 0 lead at intermission.  First half goals were scored by Jade Arnold, Journey Arnold, Julia Duncan and Jenna Garretson to give the Lady Raiders a commanding lead over the Lady Gators.  Emilee Roberson and Duncan added 2nd half scores to lift the Lady Raider’s conference record to 5-0-1.  Coffee County has 3 conference friendlies left on the schedule beginning with a match at Tullahoma on Thursday night.  That match kicks off at 5 PM.

CCMS Football Falls to North

CCMS Football helmetIn a battle of unbeatens of Tuesday night, the North Franklin Gators dropped the CCMS Raider football team 24 to 12 in middle school football action in Winchester. North scored 2 first half touchdowns, and with the successful 2 point conversions, built a 16 to 0 halftime lead. Coming out of the halftime homecoming festivities, the Gators returned the 2nd half kickoff for a touchdown to stake themselves to a 24 to 0 lead. Coffee County rallied with a 3rd quarter touchdown from Tanner Hulvey and a 4th quarter touchdown from Hayden Skipper, but without either 2 point conversion, they could not close the 2 score gap. The Raiders return home on Tuesday night as they play host to Warren County in the final regular season home game. That game kicks off at 6:30 and Thunder Radio will have the call beginning with the pregame show at 6:20.

CHS Soccer Falls to Lincoln County

Soccer ballFacing district leading Lincoln County on Tuesday night, the Lady Raider soccer team could only muster 5 shots in falling by a final of 6 to 0 in high school soccer action at Raider Field.  The Lady Falcons put 15 shots on frame in the contest, netting 6.  With the loss, the Lady Raiders district record falls to 1-3-1 in district play.  Coffee County will welcome Franklin County on Thursday night for a 7 PM district match.

CHS Lady Raider Golf Claims District Title, Boys Finish 2nd

The Lady Raider golf team claimed their 3rd straight District 8AAA title on Monday with a 29 stroke win over second place Franklin County.   The Lady Raiders shot a 173 on the day led by senior Teagan Perry who shot an 86 to finish 2nd overall.  Savannah Quick was one stroke back at 87 to finish 3rd overall and Sophie Vinson shot a 90 to finish 5th.

The Red Raiders kept their season alive with a 2nd place finish in the district tournament as they shot a 335 on the day.  Tullahoma finished first at 319 while Franklin County was third at 368.  Austin Farris shot the low round for Coffee County with a 79 which was good for a 4th place individual finish.  John Parigger shot an 82, Reid Lawrence carded a 86 and Hayden Proffitt got around in 88 for Coffee County which improved to 50 and 25 on the season.   Both teams will advance to next week’s Region tournament scheduled for Monday at Tullahoma.
