Fall sports are around the corner and Thunder Radio is excited to announce that not only with the Fall Hometown Sports Series return this year, but it will be bigger and better than ever.
This will be the 8th year of Hometown Sports Series broadcasts on Thunder Radio – presented by Capstar Bank. New this year will be audio streams on thunder1320.com – presented by Ben Lomand Connect and Capstar Bank.
Hometown Sports Series on Thunder Radio was launched 8 years ago by late sports director Dennis Weaver with the idea of bringing high school volleyball and soccer, as well as middle school sports to the radio with the same enthusiasm of high school football.
“As we approach the one-year anniversary of Dennis Weaver’s passing (July 24), it is only appropriate that we announce that his vision all of those years ago remains alive and well and continues to grow,” said Josh Peterson, co-owner of Thunder Radio. “With this expansion it will allow Thunder Radio to highlight more athletes and more games for our local sports teams and that is what it is all about.”
Previous years have featured approximately 20 Fall Hometown Sports Series games (presented by Capstar Bank) broadcast on the radio. For 2021, that number will remain close to the same, but an additional 36 games are scheduled to be broadcast through the Thunder Radio internet streams presented by Ben Lomand Connect and Capstar Bank.
Currently, Thunder Radio is scheduled to broadcast approximately 25 Hometown Sports Series games on the radio, 24 games on the Ben Lomand Connect Stream and 12 games on the Capstar Bank Stream (this does not include high school football broadcasts or the Coach Doug Greene Show, which adds 22 more fall sports broadcasts this fall).
“We take the role as a true community radio station seriously,” added Peterson. “Not only will you hear these games on the radio and on the internet this fall, but you’ll see out photographer (Holly Peterson) at most games and those photos can be found on the Thunder Radio Facebook page, thunder1320.com and in this fall’s edition of Thunder The Magazine.”
Fall Hometown Sports Series broadcast will feature Peterson and Courtney Steere behind the microphone, as well as broadcasters in training Jaxon Vaughn, Luke Beachboard and Elizabeth Brown.
See tentative Fall Hometown Sports Broadcast Schedule below (High School football has been included). Schedule subject to change based on game schedule changes, weather and personnel availability. Air time is generally 10 minutes prior to game start time, with the exception of High School football, which begins at 6 p.m. with the Friday Night Thunder pregame show.

The CHS volleyball team is coming off a historic run in 2020, when the Lady Raiders finished one win shy of the state tournament.
Titans 2021 Training Camp Preview: A look at the offensive line
Tennessee Titans football can be heard live on Thunder Radio all season long – presented by realtor Charlie Gonzales, Weichert Realtors Joe Orr & Associates.
In camp (17): T Taylor Lewan, G Rodger Saffold III, C Ben Jones, G Nate Davis, T Kendall Lamm, T David Quessenberry, T Ty Sambrailo, OL Dillon Radunz, C/G Aaron Brewer, G Cole Banwart, T Paul Adams, T Christian DiLauro, OL Chandon Herring, T Brandon Kemp, C Daniel Munyer, G Adam Coon, OL Elijah Nkansah.
Offseason developments: The Titans signed Lamm, formerly of the Browns, early in free agency to compete for the starting spot at right tackle. The Titans also re-signed Sambrailo, who stepped in as a starter last season before suffering a knee injury. In the second round of the NFL Draft, the Titans selected Radunz, who played in college at North Dakota State. The Titans claimed Nkansah off waivers following his release from the Colts, and the team also added DiLauro, who has bounced around the league. Following the draft, the Titans signed undrafted free agents Banwart (Iowa) and Herring (BYU). The Titans also added Coon, a former wrestler at the University of Michigan, to compete at guard. The Titans parted ways with tackle Dennis Kelly, who remains unsigned, and the team did not make a tender offer to Jamil Douglas, who has since signed with the Bills. The Titans also did not re-sign Marshall Newhouse, and he remains a free agent. Brewer spent the offseason working his way back to good health, and he’s expected to be back in the mix. Lewan, meanwhile, didn’t take part in offseason workouts while rehabbing his ACL injury from a year ago.
In the spotlight: Lewan. Lost for the 2020 season with a torn ACL last October against the Texans, Lewan had surgery and has been working his way back to good health ever since. Last month, Lewan provided an update, saying he’s been doing change of direction, and some running, while strengthening the knee and the muscles around it. The Titans need Lewan to step in and regain his pre-injury form. A three-time Pro Bowler, Lewan has played in 90 regular season games, with 85 starts. So, will Lewan be on the field for Day 1 of training camp? While that remains to be seen, the important thing is getting Lewan healthy and ready to go for Week 1 of the regular season.
Battle to watch: The fight for the right tackle spot. Heading into camp, my sunflower seeds are on Lamm to be the starter at right tackle vs the Cardinals on September 12. But a lot can happen between now and then, of course. A six-year veteran, Lamm (6-5, 310) has appeared in 74 career games, with 27 starts between the Texans (2015-18) and Browns (2019-20). While he did a nice job this offseason in OTAs, he still needs to clean some things up from a technique standpoint to earn the starting spot. Quessenberry, who stepped in a year ago and performed well, will be among those trying to win the job. Sambrailo, who also spent the offseason rehabbing his knee, should return to the mix and contend himself. What about Radunz? Well, he’s the future, but how quickly he enters the starting lineup remains to be seen. More on him coming now…
Keep an eye on: Dillon Radunz. During offseason work, Radunz worked all over the offensive line, from guard to tackle. Some of it was to get him comfortable playing all the positions (except center), and some of it was out of necessity since Davis and Saffold were sidelined for part of the offseason work. Either way, Radunz and the Titans should benefit from the experiment since he’ll be better equipped to step in when needed. In camp, I’m expecting the Titans to work Radunz a lot at right tackle, and give him a chance to win a starting spot. Radunz is going to be a good player – he’s long and athletic, he works hard, and he’s smart. But he’s still adjusting to the NFL and the competition, and his technique needs to improve, from his stance to being on time at the snap. The crash course begins next week.
Next: Tight ends.

Predators announce preseason schedule for 2021-22 season
Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today the team’s six-game 2021 preseason schedule, beginning with a doubleheader on the road against the Florida Panthers on Sept. 26. The Preds will play a home-and-home against the Tampa Bay Lightning before taking on the Carolina Hurricanes twice to close out their preseason slate.
After no preseason games were played prior to the start of the 2020-21 NHL season, this will mark the ninth time in the last 10 training camps that the Predators and Panthers will play a split-squad doubleheader. Nashville will then face off against the Lightning, traveling to Tampa on Sept. 30 and hosting the defending Stanley Cup champions at Bridgestone Arena on Oct. 2. The Predators will round out their preseason schedule with two games against the Hurricanes – Nashville’s first round opponent in the 2021 playoffs – with the first at PNC Arena in Raleigh on Oct. 5 and the second coming four days later on Oct. 9 at home. The 2021-22 NHL regular season is scheduled to open the following week.
The team’s 2021 rookie camp is scheduled to open on Sept. 16 in Nashville. The group will take part in a rookie tournament in Estero, Fla., from Sept. 17-20 before joining Nashville’s main training camp.
Tickets for the Predators’ two preseason home games will go on sale on Friday, July 23 at 12 p.m. CT on Ticketmaster.com.

Titans 2021 Training Camp Preview: A look at the running backs
Tennessee Titans football can be heard live on Thunder Radio all season long – presented by realtor Charlie Gonzales, Weichert Realtors Joe Orr & Associates.
In camp (7): RB Derrick Henry, RB Darrynton Evans, RB Brian Hill, RB Jeremy McNichols, RB Mekhi Sargent, RB-FB Khari Blasingame, FB Tory Carter.
Offseason developments: After being named NFL Offensive Player of the Year in February, Henry went back to work. His superhuman offseason workout videos once again went viral, and when he showed up at the team’s minicamp he looked fit and ready to go. Back in March, the Titans signed veteran Brian Hill, formerly of the Falcons. Darrynton Evans worked some in the slot at receiver in OTAs, and he looked good. McNichols is back, but the team didn’t re-sign Senorise Perry, who remains a free agent. Blasingame has added size and bulk, which should help him even more as a blocker. The team added a pair of undrafted free agents in Carter (LSU) and Sargent (Iowa). Sargent is small in stature (5-8, 208), but he’s competitive and showed some quickness in offseason work.
In the spotlight: Henry. Heading into his sixth NFL season, Henry has shown no signs of slowing down. He’s led the league in rushing two years in a row, and he’s coming off a year when he racked up 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns. Henry has continued to work on finding ways to improve, and he spent breaks in the action during minicamp playing catch with running backs coach Tony Dews. The Titans have a new offensive coordinator in Todd Downing, and some new weapons at receiver in Julio Jones and Josh Reynolds. The Titans might not have to rely on Henry quite as much in 2021, but if the train keeps on rolling down the track, why derail a good thing?
Battle to watch: Brian Hill vs. Jeremy McNichols. A fifth-round draft pick of the Falcons in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Wyoming, Hill is in line to win a back-up running back spot. He has valuable experience, with 45 games played and 982 yards and three touchdowns on 209 carries in his career. With the Falcons in 2020, Hill ran for 465 yards and a touchdown on 100 attempts while catching 25 passes for 199 yards. Hill needs to settle in during camp and catch the football on a consistent basis. Assuming he does, he should be an upgrade over Perry from a year ago. Plus, he can help on special teams. The competitive McNichols won’t go down without a fight, something he’s proven during his time with the team.
Keep an eye on: Darrynton Evans. A third-round pick out of Appalachian State in the 2020 NFL Draft, Evans didn’t make much of an impact as a rookie. He was slowed with injuries, and really only showed what he’s capable of in small glimpses. Evans enjoyed a solid offseason, and he figures to be in the mix a lot more in his sophomore NFL season. Evans generated some buzz when he lined up at receiver in OTAs, but let’s get this straight – he’s a running back. But yes, he could be used in situations where he’d line up outside to find himself in a favorable matchup. Just how much Evans factors into the plan could depend on Evans and his health, and performance.
Next up: Offensive line.

Keri Munn named NFCA All-American
Another week and yet another postseason award has been bestowed upon a Coffee County Lady Raider softball player.
Former Lady Raider pitcher Keri Munn has been named to the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Third Team as a pitcher.
This is just the latest in a long list of postseason honors for Munn, who was named TNSCA Miss Softball, was selected to play in the TNSCA All-Star Game, nominated as Tennessean Softball Player of the Year and was named to the TSWA All-State team, among other awards.
Munn was 27-4 in the circle for Coffee County through the 2021 season, striking out 268 batters. She has signed to play at MTSU.
Coffee County’s softball team compiled a 34-7-1 record during the 2021 season, finishing as state runner up in a deep run at the TSSAA Spring Fling in May. It was the best single-season finish in program history.
Thunder Radio adds three aspiring broadcasters to help expand fall sports coverage

Thunder Radio is taking its community-leading sports coverage and making it even better.
The station announced that it has added three young, aspiring sports broadcasters to its team to expand sports coverage in the upcoming school year.
“We take great pride in providing the best sports coverage, not only in our community, but in any community of comparable size in the country. We want the absolute best for our student-athletes, our ball teams and our community,” said Josh Peterson, co-owner of Thunder Radio and sports director.
Thunder Radio announced that Jaxon Vaughn, Elizabeth Brown and Luke Beachboard have all joined the Thunder Radio sports team.
The three will serve as play-by-play announcers for some of Thunder Radio’s sports coverage this fall on Hometown Sports Series. They join veteran broadcasters Peterson, Dustin Murray, Jonathan Oliver and Courntey Steere.
“We aren’t quite ready to announce our coverage schedule just yet,” explained Peterson. “But I can tell you that we will be broadcasting more games than ever before. In past years, we have broadcast around 15-20 Hometown Sports Series games in the fall (in addition to high school football). This year we will be broadcasting significantly more. We hope to have a final schedule to release very soon.”
The Hometown Sports Series is presented by Capstar Bank and includes broadcasts of Coffee County High School volleyball and soccer, as well as Coffee Middle and Westwood Middle football, volleyball and soccer.
In addition to the Hometown Sports Series, Thunder Radio continues to be your home for CHS Red Raider football, as it has been for over 60 years.
Meet the new team
Jaxon Vaughn – A former standout Red Raider basketball player, Vaughn graduated from CHS in May of this year. He is attending college and plans to pursue a career in broadcasting. He was one of six recipients of the Dream For Weave Scholarship this year.
Elizabeth Brown – A track athlete for CHS, Elizabeth is entering her senior year at Coffee County Central. She plans to attend college and pursue a career in broadcasting. She helped with Thunder Radio baseball broadcasts in the spring of 2021.
Luke Beachboard – Will begin his senior year at CHS this fall. Luke cut his teeth in broadcasting for the CHS Raider TV class during baseball and softball season last spring.
