Westwood Baseball Drops Moore County

The Westwood baseball team welcomed Moore County to Powers Field on Wednesday night for the conclusion of their 2 game series.  After falling behind 3 to 1, the Rockets rallied for 7 runs in their last 3 at bats to capture their 4th win on the year.

The Rockets banged out 10 hits on the game led by Skylar Bratcher, Trenton Thompson, Tristan Vaughn and Wyatt Nugent who all had 2 hits apiece.  Brady Nugent walked twice and scored a pair of runs.  Blake Perry was credited with 2 RBI.

Westwood will travel to Bedford County on Friday for a conference game with Liberty. First pitch is set for 5 PM.

Westwood Softball Blitzes Liberty

The Westwood softball team traveled to Shelbyville on Wednesday afternoon for a conference game with Liberty.  The Lady Rockets captured their 3rd straight win as they raced to an 8 to 1 win.  The Lady Rockets jumped on the Lady Patriots for 6 runs in the first 2 innings to improve to 4 and 0 in Duck River Valley Conference play.

Haidyn Campbell led Westwood at the plate and from the circle.  The 7th grader had 3 hits, including a double, scored 3 runs and an RBI.  She also pitched a complete game surrendering 6 hits and an unearned run while striking out 9 for the win. Hallie Wimberley had 2 hits and 2 RBI while Emma Kidder added a double and 2 RBI.

The Lady Rockets are off for Spring break as their next game will be held on Monday April 3rd at home when they host Riverside Christian.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.

CHS Track Has Strong Performance at Cookeville on Tuesday

The CHS track team traveled to Cookeville on Tuesday for their second meet of the year.  Coming off a win in their home meet last Thursday, the Raiders and Lady Raiders welcomed warmer weather for this meet.  The warmer weather brought in thunderstorms which caused the meet to get cancelled after 8 events.  The Lady Raiders continued their traditional strong performance in hurdling and jumping events as they captured a 2nd place meet finish to Blackman.  The Red Raiders saw their forte of distance events washed out as they finished in 5th place.

The Lady Raiders’ day was highlighted by a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100M hurdles as Karson Young( with a time of 16.23) finished first, Sarah Pearson(16.62) finished 2nd and Makenzie Anderson(18.30) came in 3rd.  Other scorers for the Lady Raiders were Faith Floyd(61-05 in the Discus & 27-10.0 in the Shot Put), Keishel Norton(27-7.0 in the Shot Put), Sarah Pearson(4’ 6” in High Jump), Makenzie Anderson(4’ 2” in High Jump), Karson Young(4’ in High Jump), Karson Young(16’ 7 ¾” in Long Jump), Chloe Haggard(13’ 7” in Long Jump), Makenzie Anderson(13’ 5 1/4 ” in Long Jump).  The 4x200M Relay team for the Lady Raiders finished 4th with a time 2:08.39.

The Red Raiders got their only points in the Shot Put from Matt DeLong who had a throw of 36 feet and ½ inch.

The Raider thinclads are off until Tuesday, April 4th when they host a home meet at Carden-Jarrell Field.  Field events will get underway at 4 PM

CCMS Baseball Drops Conference Game at North Franklin

The CCMS Red Raider baseball team headed to Winchester on Wednesday night hoping to bounce back from a 1 to 0 heart-breaking loss on Monday to North Franklin.  A 4 run 6th inning by North spelled doom for Coffee County as they fell 6 to 4 to the Gators.

Coffee County grabbed a 2 to 1 lead in the 4th inning powered by back to back doubles from Nick Watkins and Trey Rogers and a single by Braden Brown.  North rallied to knot the game at 2 in the bottom of that inning setting up the 6th run explosion.  Coffee County rallied for 2 runs in the 7th but could not complete the comeback.  The Raiders belted out 7 hits on the night led by Trey Rogers who had a single and a double.

The Raiders will travel to Murfreesboro on Thursday night to take on Middle Tennessee Christian in the Blackman Challenge.  That game is set to begin at 4PM at MTCS.

CCMS Softball Falls to North Franklin

Coffee County Middle School softball team traveled to Winchester on Wednesday night to take on North Franklin.   The Lady Raiders were trying to bounce back from a 4 to 3 loss on Monday at home to the Lady Gators.  After taking an early lead, the Lady Raiders fell by a final score of 6 to 2.

Kiya Ferrell led off the game reaching on an error, and after a pair of walks, scored on a fielder’s choice.  The Lady Gators roared back with 5 runs in the 2nd inning to sweep the season series with the Lady Raiders.  Coffee County was held to 7 hits on the game.

The Lady Raiders will play host to Whitworth-Buchanan on Thursday night in a non-conference matchup.  First pitch is set for 5 PM.

Westwood Soccer Blanked by Lincoln County

The Westwood soccer team hosted Lincoln County on Wednesday night at Dyer-Bouldin Field in a non-conference friendly.  The Rockets saw Lincoln County scratch a first half goal and make it stand up as Westwood fell 1 to 0.

Lincoln County got the lone goal of the game in the 28th minute.  Westwood dominated possession in the 2nd half but could not scratch out the equalizer.  The loss drops the Rockets record to 4 and 2 on the season and breaks a 3 game winning streak for Westwood.

Westwood will be off until Monday, April 3rd when the Rockets play host to Tullahoma.  That match will begin at 6 PM.

CHS Baseball Rallies to Top Lincoln County on Tuesday

The CHS Red Raider baseball team welcomed Lincoln County to Powers Field on Tuesday for a district match up with the Falcons.  In a game you heard here on Thunder Radio, the Red Raiders struggled to get their offense going until the 6th inning.  Trailing 2 to 0, Coffee County rallied to win 3 to 2.

Trailing 2 to nothing entering the last of the 6th, Jacob Langham led off with a walk before Noah Anderson hit an infield single.  Nathaniel Tate laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt that Lincoln County threw away at first base.  The speedy Tate ended up at 3rd base on the play as 2 runs scored.  Cade Giles hit an RBI double to plate the go-ahead run and Davis Green set down Lincoln County in the top of the 7th inning for the win.  Green went the distance on the mound for Coffee County as he earned the Crazy Daisies Player of the Game.  Green scattered 7 hits while striking out 5.

The Raiders will travel to Fayetteville on Wednesday night for game #2 in the series.  First pitch is set for 6 PM.

CHS Tennis Opens Season with Split at Warren County

The Coffee County CHS tennis team opened their season on Tuesday as they traveled to McMinnville for a match with Warren County. The Red Raiders won their match 5 to 1 while the Lady Raiders fell 6 to 1 to the Lady Pioneers.

In boys’ play, Joseph Sadler(by a score of 6 to 3), Shlip Patel(6-0), Jonah Rollman(6-2) and Evan Herrell(1-0) won their singles matches while Sadler and Patel won their doubles match by a score of 6 to 3.

In girls’ play, Kayla Wright won her singles match in a tie-breaker 7 to 4 for the only match win for the Lady Raiders.

The Raider netters are back in action on Thursday when they play host to Lawrence County.  That match is set to get underway at 4 PM.
