BRAVES WIN! Freeman home run sends Atlanta to NLCS
Freddie Freeman created a raucous celebration by conquering the great Josh Hader and sending the Braves back to the National League Championship Series with a homer that will be remembered for many years to come.
Freeman’s solo homer with two outs in the eighth inning off Hader gave the Braves a 5-4 win in Game 4 of the NL Division Series on Tuesday night at Truist Park. The veteran first baseman’s blast capped a three-hit night. Will Smith closed the game with a strikeout of Brewer Christian Yelich with the tying run on first base.
Game 1 of the NLCS is set for Saturday. The Braves will face the winner of the Giants-Dodgers NLDS. San Francisco leads that best-of-five series 2-1
You can hear the Braves on Thunder Radio – 107.9 FM, 1320 AM, 106.7 FM.
VOLLEYBALL: Lady Raiders season ends in region semi-finals
Coffee County’s volleyball season came to a close in Cleveland Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders struggled to get its offensive attack in sync all afternoon and dropped the Region 3-AAA semi-finals 0-3 to Bradley Central in Cleveland – a match you heard live on Thunder Radio. Coffee County lost 12-25, 17-25 and 19-25.
CHS struggled to get any solid attacks. The Lady Raiders kills leader only had 5 – that was Gia Perez. Kiya Ferrell and Lauren Brandt each had 4. Ferrell led the Lady Raides in digs with 14.
The Lady Raiders finish the season 2 wins shy of the state tournament with a 20-11 record. The loss ends the high school careers of Ferrell, Brandt and Maddy Sussen.
Ferrell and Sussen were named to the Region 3-AAA All-Tournament Team.

MLB: Braves and Brewers even at 1-1 as series moves to Atlanta
Showing why he has quickly established himself as one of the game’s top starters, Max Fried once again got the Braves back on track with another of those dominant starts he frequently produced over the past couple of months.
Ozzie Albies capped a two-run third with a double and Austin Riley drilled a sixth-inning solo homer that gave Fried some comfort as he guided the Braves to a 3-0 win over the Brewers in Game 2 of the National League Division Series on Saturday at American Family Field.
THUNDER RADIO is your exclusive home for the Braves in Coffee County. Game 3 first pitch is set for 12:07 pm and can be heard live on Thunder Radio: 107.9 FM, 106.7 FM, 1320 AM.
VOLLEYBALL: Lady Raiders head to Cleveland for region tournament
Following a dominating performance in District 6-AAA regular season and the postseason, Coffee County’s Lady Raider volleyball team has its assignment moving forward.
The Lady Raiders will make the haul into the eastern time zone Tuesday, Oct. 12, for the Region 3-AAA volleyball tournament at Cleveland High School. The Lady Raiders will take on Bradley Central at 4:30 p.m. (EASTERN, 3:30 pm CENTRAL) in a win or go home situation. If Coffee County can win that best-of-five match with the Bears, the Lady Raiders will play in the region championship match at 7:30 p.m (EASTERN, 6:30 pm CENTRAL) at Cleveland High School. A win in the semi-finals against Bradley Central also guarantees a trip to the state sectional. A loss against Bradley Central ends the season.
Raiders return to action Friday; look to even record
After a 1-4 start, things have turned around nicely for the Coffee County Central Red Raider football team.
The Raiders pieced together back to back wins over Spring Hill and Warren County (the latter being a region win) to improve to 3-4, and after a week off to rest and recover from a physical 7 weeks of football, the Raiders have a chance to finish strong.
Coffee County welcomes region opponent Cookeville to town on Friday. A win would make 3 in a row for CHS – something the Raider football program has not done since 2007. A win would also even the Raiders’ record at 4-4 with two games remaining, tie last season’s win total and guarantee CHS a spot in the playoffs.

Braves open NLDS Friday against Brewers; hear it on Thunder Radio
Braves right-hander Charlie Morton will start Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Brewers on Friday. This is an assignment he may not have gained had he not allowed seven runs in just 3 2/3 innings for the Astros against the Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series in 2017.
“I remember giving up a bunch of runs and leaving the field thinking, ‘Man, I don’t know what happened,’” Morton said. “I felt like I threw the ball OK. Just a ton of people scored. And [the Astros] gave me the ball for Game 7 in the Championship Series. It’s do or die, Game 7; no tomorrow if you don’t win.”

Titans move Evans to Designated to Return list
The Titans have moved running back Darrynton Evans to the team’s “Designated for Return from Injured Reserve” list.
This designation opens up a 21-day window for Evans to practice with the team, and he will not count against the team’s 53-man roster until being activated from Injured Reserve.
The Titans placed Evans, a third-round draft pick of the Titans in the 2020 NFL Draft, on Injured Reserve last month because of a knee injury he suffered during the preseason. He’s been rehabbing the injury ever since.
In 2020, Evans appeared in five games during the regular season and he totaled 54 rushing yards on 14 carries. Evans also added two catches for 27 yards and a touchdown and nine kickoff returns for 206 yards.
Last week, the Titans moved receiver Marcus Johnson and safety Brady Breeze to the team’s “Designated for Return from Injured Reserve” list, but neither player has been added to the active roster.
The Titans face the Jaguars on Sunday in Jacksonville. You can hear the Titans all season long on Thunder Radio – 107.9 FM, 1320 AM, 106.7 FM. Titans on Thunder presented by Charlie Gonzales, Weichert Realtors Joe Orr & Associates!
