Welcoming old rival Lincoln County to Terry Floyd Field, the Coffee County softball team needed a bounce back win after losing 2 games in a row.  In a game you heard here on Thunder Radio, Coffee County jumped on the Lady Falcons from the start.  The Lady Raiders got a 12 to 0 win in a game shortened due to the mercy rule.

Coffee County strung together 6 straight hits to lead off the bottom of the 1st inning to seize control of the game.  After scoring 7 runs in the 1st, the Lady Raiders added 4 runs in the 3rd inning and another in the 7th.  Coffee County banged out 12 hits on the night.  Keri Munn went the distance in the circle for the Lady Raiders as she struck out 7 while allowing just 3 hits to earn the Crazy Daisies Player of the Game Award.

Coffee County was led in hitting by Sarah West who had a single, a double and 3 RBI.  Kasarah Scheller also had a single and a double and 1 RBI.  Ashley Evans and Lauren Tomberlin each added a pair of singles and 2 RBI.  Shelby Scrivnor added a single and a double and scored 2 times.

The Rockets wasted no time in getting on the board as they got a goal in the 1st minute from John Martinez.  Ian Weldon added a goal in the 7th minute and the 10th minute to give Westwood the commanding lead.  Coach Jonathan Graf emptied his bench to begin the 2nd half as the Rockets improved to 6 and 0 on the year and 5 and 0 in conference play.

Connor Cravens, Martinez and Weldon each finished with 2 goals. Keiton Sherrill added a goal and an assist.  Caleb Cargile and Adam Gann added goals in the second half and Louie Frazier finished with 1 assist.    Bodey Todd had 3 saves in goal for Westwood.

CHS Soccer Falls to Shelbyville

Paco Barrera of CHS soccer

The Red Raider soccer team of Coffee County Central High School opened up district play on Tuesday night in Shelbyville.  The cold and wet conditions, coupled with a physical Shelbyville team would provide Coffee County their most challenging match of the early season.  After rallying to tie the match at 2 goals apiece at the half, the Red Raiders fell by a final score of 5 to 2.

Shelbyville got on the board with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes.  Leo Botello got Coffee County on the board in the 31st minute off an assist from Cameron Kistler.  Paco Barrera tied the game in the final 2 minutes of the half.

In the second half, the Eagles dominated the scoring as they notched goals in the 45th, 58th and 60th minutes to capture the district win.  Coffee County is now 2 and 1 on the year but 0 and 1 in district play.

The Raiders hits the road on Friday when they travel to Cleveland to take part in the Cleveland Classic.  Coffee County will take on East Hamilton at 7:30 PM(EDT) on Friday.  The Red Raiders will face Walker Valley at 10 AM on Saturday, followed by Howard at 4 PM.
