The Sounds belted three solo home runs within the first two innings while Jokish induced 11 ground outs on the night. Jokisch was economical on the mound as he needed just 72 pitches, 55 of which were strikes, to get through six innings. The lone blemish on the night for the southpaw was a leadoff home run in the sixth inning to Christian Lopes.

Three batters later Bruce Maxwell belted his first home run of the season to make it 3-0. It was the fourth time in his career Round Rock starter Yohander Mendez allowed three or more home runs in a game.

Nashville added a fourth run in the fourth inning. Barreto and Sheldon Neuse each recorded one-out singles to put runners on the corners. Steve Lombardozzi then skied a fly ball to right field that was deep enough to score Barreto from third base.

Round Rock got on the board in the sixth from Lopes and then Carlos Perez led off the seventh with a solo shot off Ryan Dull to cut the deficit in half. Josh Lucas and Liam Hendriks pitched the eighth and ninth innings respectively to shut the door on the Express. For Hendriks it was his 14th scoreless outing in a row and sixth save of the season.

Coffee Pot Game is Friday

Voted as one of the top rivalries in the state of Tennessee, the 93rd meeting on the gridiron between Tullahoma and Coffee County is a mere hours away.  Befitting the aged rivalry, an old bronze pot on a wooden pedestal awaits the winner of Friday night’s Coffee Pot game at Wilkins Stadium in Tullahoma.  Originally conceived in 1937 to be awarded to the winner, the Coffee Pot symbolizes bragging rights for the winning team, fans and community for a calendar year.

In spite of the fact that Tullahoma has dominated the series in the last 31 years(winning 25 of the last 31 meetings); the Red Raiders have won 2 of the last 3 contests in blowout fashion.  Tullahoma rallied from a 28 to 7 halftime deficit in 2017 to break the modest Raider winning streak.  Overall, Tullahoma owns a 59 to 31 series advantage with 2 ties.

Friday night’s game will be heard exclusively here on Thunder Radio with Lucky Knott calling his 22nd Coffee Pot match-up.  Lucky and Dustin Murray will bring you all the action from Wilkins Stadium in Tullahoma beginning at 6:45 on Friday night.  Kickoff is set for 7 PM and Thunder Radio will have live coverage beginning at 6 PM and after game until 11 PM with Friday Night Thunder.

The Titans have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with veteran receiver Rishard Matthews.

Matthews, heading into his seventh NFL season, now has a contract that runs through the 2019 season.

Matthews initially signed with the Titans prior to the 2016 season, and he’s played in 30 games over the past two seasons. Matthews caught 53 passes for 795 yards and four touchdowns in 2017, one year after catching 65 passes for 945 yards and nine touchdowns.

Over the past two seasons, Matthews has led the team with 1,740 receiving yards and 13 touchdown receptions, and he’s ranked second on the team behind tight end Delanie Walker with 118 catches. His 14.7 yards per reception average ranks ninth among all NFL players with at least 100 receptions during that time.

In six NFL seasons, Matthews has 225 catches for 3,136 yards and 21 touchdowns. He played his first four seasons with the Miami Dolphins.

Matthews remains in the team’s Physically Unable to Perform list.

CCMS Football Falls in Overtime Thriller

Hitting the road for their longest road trip of the year on Tuesday, the Red Raider football team of Coffee County Middle School headed to Rhea County.  The Red Raiders, who have been close in both their match-ups this year, missed a 2 point conversion with 40 seconds to go in the game to send it to overtime.  In overtime, Rhea County got the winning score to drop Coffee County 12 to 6.

Coach Bryan Morgan was proud of his players on the night, including his defense.  After surrendering a touchdown in the first drive of the game, Coffee Middle’s defense held the Eagles for the final 3 quarters without points.   Caleb Boothe had an interception to stall one Rhea County drive.

The Eagles scored the game winning touchdown in overtime on 3rd down as the Rhea County runner broke a tackle, reversed field and squeezed into the end zone from the 5 yard line.  Coffee County got their lone score with 40 seconds to go in the game when Travis Martin scored from 40 yards out.  The 2 point try was no good forcing the overtime period.  In overtime, Coffee Middle was stopped at the 3 yard line on 4th down.

The Raiders are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Shelbyville to take on Harris.  The opening kickoff will be at 6:30 PM.
