Coffee County Middle School Football Has Tuesday Game Cancelled

The 2018 CCMS Raider football player and cheerleaders are honored in the rain under ominous skies with their parents on Tuesday night.

The Coffee County Middle School football team’s 8th Grade Night game with White County was cancelled last night as lightning and storms had pushed the start back past 8 PM.  Before the game, and the first lightning delay, 30 Raider 8th grade players and cheerleaders were recognized.  The Red Raiders finished the year winning 3 of their last 4 games.

Coffee County Middle School Volleyball Falls in Regular Season Finale

The Coffee County Middle School volleyball team closed out the regular season on Monday night as they played host to North Franklin.  After a hard fought first set, North rallied to win the match in 2 sets.  Coffee County fell by set scores of 20-25 and 8-25.

The Lady Raiders will open the CTC Tournament on Thursday night when they take on Warren County at 7 PM at Harris Middle School.  The CTC Tournament will conclude on Saturday at Harris.

Westwood Soccer Season Comes to an End on Monday

The Westwood Middle School soccer team traveled to Wartrace on Monday to open up play in the CTSC postseason tournament.  The Lady Rockets took on the Cascade Lady Champions with a berth in Friday’s quarterfinals on the line.  Four second half goals by Cascade ended the Lady Rockets season as they fell 5 to 0.

Six first half stops by keeper Holland Willoughby gave Westwood life going into intermission as the Lady Rockets trailed 1 nil.  Cascade turned up the pressure in the 2nd half and added 4 goals to get the final margin of 5 nil.  Willoughby added 11 saves in the 2nd half to finish with 17 on the match.

Coffee County Golf Opens State Tournament on Tuesday

The Coffee County Central High School golf team will begin play in the 2018 TSSAA Large Division State Tournament on Tuesday. For the 2nd straight year, the Red Raiders won the region tournament and punched their ticket to the tournament which is held annually at Willowbrook. The Raiders enter the state tournament with a season record of 75 and 5 which is a new school record. 2018 is the 6th straight year for a Red Raider state qualifier for the state tournament. The state tournament is a 36 hole event which will tee off at 8 AM on Tuesday, September 25th at Willowbrook. The 2nd 18 holes will be played on Wednesday.

The Red Raiders will tee off in 5 straight foursomes beginning on the 10th tee. Freshman Logan Hale will tee off first for the Raiders as opens play at 8 AM. Senior Matthew Hale follows him at 8:10; fellow senior Josh Perry will go off at 8:20. Senior Samuel Prater is in the 4th group that will tee off at 8:30 while senior Austin Farris starts his round at 8:40 AM.

Spectators are welcome to attend the state tournament at WIllowbrook and admission each round is $8 per person. A select number of golf carts will be available to rent for spectators who meet ADA requirements with prior approval. Coffee County Youth Bass Club Opened Season on Saturday

The Coffee County Youth Bass Club opened their fall season on Saturday when they competed in the Tennessee Bass Nation High School and Youth Division Tournament on Nickajack Lake.  In the biggest tournament in the history of the Tennessee Bass Nation, six Coffee County high school boats competed in the field of 188 boats.  Two middle school boats from Coffee County competed in a field of 36 teams in the Junior Division.

In the junior division, the team of Kylan Mantooth and Lance Marcom finished in 3rd place with a 4 fish catch weighing in at 7.42 pounds.  The team of Delainee Driver and Grayson Mangrum did not land a keeper.

For the high school teams, the boat of Branson Wells and Dawson Wells were the top finisher with a 3 fish stringer of 6.3 pounds with a big fish at 3.28 pounds.  The team of Isaiah Owens and Garrett Davis landed in 26th place with a 2 fish total of 5.88 pounds.  Colby Thurmond and Jacob Garms came home in 50th place with 3 fish tipping the scales at 3.49 pounds.  The teams of Adam Petty and Jayden Yates,

Briley Sain and Kaden Freeze and the team of Curtis Tudor and Sawyer Banks all came home without a keeper.

Coffee County Lady Raider Soccer Celebrates Senior Night

When rain forced the cancellation of Monday night’s CHS soccer game with Central Magnet, the Lady Raiders moved their Senior Night to the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym.  Honoring seniors Allie Amado, Morgan Henley, Meagan Jones, Jessica Barrera and Makenzie Webb.  The Lady Raiders next game will be on Thursday night when they travel to Ooltewah.  That match will kick off at 7 PM Eastern Time.

Coffee County Football Falls to Cookeville

Returning to Carden-Jarrell Field on Friday night, the Coffee County football team welcomed Cookeville for a region contest.  The Red Raiders were stymied on offense and gave up too many big plays on defense as they fell to the Cavaliers 54 to 7.

Coffee County got their only points of the game on the last play of the first half as Matthew Pittman raced 93 yards on a kickoff return for a touchdown.  Briggs Haithcock added the extra point as the Raiders trailed 40 to 7 at the half.  Andrew Mahaffey led the Raiders in yardage as he had 15 yards rushing on 8 carries and caught one pass for 15 yards.  Pittman was named the Crazy Daisies Player of the Game.

Coffee County will be back at home on Friday night when they welcome Oakland for Homecoming.  The opening kick is scheduled for 7 PM.

Coffee Middle’s Greenlee Woods Qualifies for Cross Country State Meet

The Coffee County Middle School cross country team traveled to Murfreesboro on Saturday to compete in the TMSAA sectional at Riverdale.  Competing for berths in the TMSAA state meet coming up in October, nine Raider runners took part in the 2 mile run.  Greenlee Woods ran the race in 13:40.61 to earn her 2nd straight state meet berth.

Woods, who started out fast, ended the race in 5th place.  Woods led the 3 member Lady Raider squad.  Eleanor Rollman finished the course in 16:23 to finish in 64th place out of 127 runners.  Elizabeth Young finished the course in 20:56.

For the Red Raiders, Lucas Beaty was the top finisher as he ran a time of 12:54 to capture 29th place.  Bradley Escue finished in 49th place out of a field of 142 runners with a time of 13:37.  Brayton Anderson ran a time of 13:56, Brady Wright ran a time of 14:45 and Manuel Gonzalez finished with a time of 15:00.25.  Clayton Bryant broke the tape at 17:40 for the Raider harriers.

The middle school runners will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Sewanee for a meet at St. Andrew’s.  First race is set for 4 PM.

Coffee County Volleyball Struggles on Saturday at Stewarts Creek

Finishing up a week of road games, the Coffee County CHS volleyball team visited Smyrna on Saturday to compete in the Stewarts Creek Invitational.  The Lady Raiders went 1 and 3 on the day in the tournament.  Coffee County captured a come from behind 2 set to 1 win over LaVergne.

The Lady Raiders were led in kills on the weekend by Keri Munn who had 17.  Kiya Ferrell and Lexi Bryan each finished with 13 kills.  Abigail Layne led the team in aces with 8 while Ferrell added 6.  Amanda Mukai led the team in assists with 27 and Keelie Hillis followed close behind with 18.  Ferrell also led the Lady Raiders in digs with 12 and Mukai finished with 8.

Coffee County will back at home on Tuesday for Senior Night.  The Lady Raiders will play host to Franklin County in a district contest.  First serve is set for 6:30 PM and Senior Night activities will be held before the match.

Westwood Volleyball Closes Out Season at Warren County Tournament

The Westwood volleyball team closed out their inaugural season with a tournament in McMinnville on Saturday.  Fielding 2 teams for the one day tournament, the Lady Rockets played some of their best volleyball of the year against the strongest competition they have faced this season.

Team #1 gained a pair of match splits and lost 3 matches.  Anna Johnson led the Lady Rockets at the net with 20 kills in 11 sets while collecting 8 blocks.  Maddie Sullivan had 37 assists and 18 digs while Emma Kidder had 8 aces and 16 digs.  Kaylynn Waterman added 11 digs and 5 aces, Kelsey Vandenbossche  finished with 12 digs and 5 aces and Abby Clark scored 16 digs and 6 aces.

Team #2 dropped all 5 of their matches on the day.  They were led by Ivet Ontiveros who finished with 13 aces and 12 digs.  Ivon Ontiveros had 13 digs while Lilee Scott had 5 kills and 7 aces.  Allie Sullivan finished with 5 aces and 9 digs.
