Titans on Thunder Radio on Monday Night
The Tennessee Titans (5-5) play their second consecutive divisional road game this week, traveling to face the AFC South’s first-place Houston Texans (7-3) on Monday Night Football. Kickoff at NRG Stadium (capacity 71,795) is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CST on Nov. 26.
The Titans have won six of their last seven games on Monday Night Football, including a win in the only previous Monday night matchup with the Texans, a 20-17 final at Houston on Nov. 23, 2009. Three weeks ago (Nov. 5), the Titans beat the Cowboys on Monday night in Dallas by a final score of 28-14.
THE BROADCAST
The Titans Radio Network, including Thunder Radio, will carry the game across the Mid-South with the “Voice of the Titans” Mike Keith, analyst Dave McGinnis, sideline reporter Amie Wells and gameday hosts Rhett Bryan and Jonathan Hutton.
TITANS LOOK TO TRIM HOUSTON’S DIVISION LEAD
The Titans traveled to Indianapolis last week and fell by a final score of 38-10. Starting quarterback Marcus Mariota left the game in the second quarter due to an elbow injury, and Blaine Gabbert passed for 118 yards and one touchdown in relief. Andrew Luck totaled 297 yards and three touchdown passes for the Colts.
The loss by the Titans put them and the Colts, who are also 5-5, two games behind the Texans in the AFC South race. The Jacksonville Jaguars are in fourth place in the division at 3-7.
The loss at Indianapolis broke the Titans’ six-game winning streak in AFC South contests. They are 7-2 in the division since the start of the 2017 season. Three of their final six games of 2018 are within the division, continuing on Thursday, Dec. 6 at home against Jacksonville and the season finale at home versus Indianapolis on Dec. 30.
THE TEXANS
Since dropping their first three games of the season, including a loss to the Titans in Week 2, the Texans have won seven consecutive contests, including last week’s dramatic 23-21 win at Washington. Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 54-yard field goal in the fourth quarter gave the Texans a 23-21 lead, which they would keep after a 63-yard field goal attempt by the Redskins fell short as time expired.
Houston’s 2017 first-round pick, quarterback Deshaun Watson, spent the final nine games of his rookie season on injured reserve. Healthy again, Watson has thrown for 2,597 yards and 18 touchdowns in his second year.
Three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt likewise has returned to form in 2018 after missing the last 11 games of 2017. He is tied for fourth place in the NFL with 10 sacks through 10 games.
Texans head coach Bill O’Brien is in his fifth season with the Texans. After he was appointed to his post in 2014, he hired Mike Vrabel from Ohio State to be the club’s linebackers coach. Vrabel held the job until O’Brien promoted him to defensive coordinator in 2017, and a year later, Vrabel was hired as head coach of the Titans.
Coffee County Lady Raiders Crush Hillwood to Open Thanksgiving Tournament

Coffee County got off to a red hot start in the game as they opened up a 27 to 0 lead in the first quarter and pushed that to a 56 to 3 lead at the half. Coffee County’s Abby Morgan hit her first eight 3 point shots in the first half. 10 different Lady Raiders scored in the game with 4 finishing in double figures. Morgan finished the game with 30 points, all of those coming in the first half. Freshman Kiya Ferrell added 15 points, Jacey Vaughn scored 14 and Bella Vinson poured in 12 as the Lady Raiders improved to 5 and 0 on the season. The Lady Raiders will return to action on Saturday when they take on Covington. That game will tip off at 1:30 PM.

Preds Fall to Blues in Second Half of Home-and-Home
St. Louis struck early and often and the Nashville Predators fell to the Blues Friday night at Enterprise Center, 6-2.
The result snapped Nashville’s three-game win streak as the Blues took the second half of the home-and-home set between the two. The Preds were three-for-three in their last trio at home, including a 4-1 win over the Blues on Wednesday, but Nashville is now 0-3-1 in their last four on the road.
“There were things we did wrong from the start right to the end,” Preds Head Coach Peter Laviolette said. “We made too many mistakes. That’s why we lost the game.”
“We didn’t play well defensively at all,” Preds Captain Roman Josi said. “They had a lot of chances, and the chances they had were really good chances right in front of the net. We have to play a lot better for [goaltender Juuse Saros] in net there.”
After a 4-1 Predators’ win on Wednesday that included plenty of feistiness, it took Austin Watson and Patrick Maroon all of two seconds into Friday’s game to drop the gloves. Ryan Hartman and Brayden Schenn did so as well just over a minute later, and as the physical start continued, it was the Blues who went up 2-0 midway through the first.
Nick Bonino got the Preds on the board with a power-play goal to cut the lead in half, but Schenn gave the Blues a two-goal lead once more before the period was out.
St. Louis added their fourth and fifth goals in the second period, with Laviolette electing to pull Saros for Pekka Rinne after the fifth strike. Both teams traded goals in the third period with Ryan Hartman getting his sixth of the season late in the game.
From here, the Preds return home to face the Ducks on Sunday as Nashville will look to erase this effort in St. Louis.
“You have to make sure you correct some things, but after that, you have to focus on the next game,” Josi said. “It’s such a long season, and you’re going to have games that you don’t like your effort. We certainly didn’t like our effort tonight and we have to look at it, but then focus on Sunday.”
Notes:
Preds center Kyle Turris left the game in the first period after taking a hit into the end boards and did not return.
The win was the first behind the Blues’ bench for interim head coach Craig Berube. His first game in charge was on Wednesday in Music City.
Until tonight’s loss, Nashville had won seven of its last eight games against St. Louis – including five in a row with four goals in five of those win.
The Predators now return back to Nashville to begin a five-game homestand, starting on Sunday evening when the Anaheim Ducks come to town.
Lady Raider Basketball to Open Thanksgiving Tournament Play on Friday
The Coffee County Lady Raider basketball will hit the road on Friday morning to compete in the 2 day, Mike Mitchell Thanksgiving Classic at the LEAD Academy in Nashville. The Lady Raiders will play at 11:30 on both Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Coffee County will take on Hillwood and then take on Whites Creek on Saturday. LEAD Academy is located at 1034 1st Ave South just off of Lafayette Street.
Coach Joe Pat Cope will be a guest on Saturday’s Coffee Coaches Show to talk about Friday’s game and give a scouting report for Saturday’s contest. The Coffee Coaches Show is broadcast live each Saturday morning from 10 to 11 AM from the showroom of Al White Ford/Lincoln. The Coffee Coaches Show is heard exclusively on Thunder Radio.
The boys and girls will return to action on Tuesday at home when they play host to Nashville Central Christian. Nashville Central Christian is a homeschool cooperative basketball program. Gaudreau, Rinne Lead Preds Past Blues to Sweep Homestand

Four different Predators scored and Pekka Rinne reached another milestone as Nashville defeated the St. Louis Blues by a 4-1 final on Wednesday night at Bridgestone Arena. The result gives the Preds a clean sweep of their three-game homestand and keeps them atop the NHL standings.
Three of those who found the back of the net on Wednesday – Frederick Gaudreau, Austin Watson and Ryan Ellis – each got their first of the season, and then, there was the goaltender.
Rinne made 28 saves to earn his 320th career victory to pass Miikka Kiprusoff and become the winningest Finnish-born goaltender in NHL history.
“A long time ago, it wasn’t even close to being on my mind,” Rinne said of the record. “When I was just trying to battle my way into the League, these are the things you are going to wish for. It’s pretty cool. When you’re fortunate and stay in the League for a long time, you know you’re going to face some milestones. This one, for sure, is a cool one.”
Nashville got the game’s opening tally, and it was Gaudreau who poked home a loose puck at the side of the net for the first regular-season goal of his career for a 1-0 lead.
St. Louis evened the score before the period was out as Robert Thomas got his first in the NHL, but in the middle frame, Filip Forsberg picked off a pass at the point while shorthanded and cashed in on a breakaway for his 14th of the season and a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
In the third, Watson fired a puck from the half wall that eluded Jake Allen to extend Nashville’s lead. Then, while shorthanded, Ellis caught up to a loose puck and finished it into an empty net to knock the proverbial monkey off his back and give his club a three-game win streak once more.
Against the Blues, who had a new head coach in Craig Berube after Mike Yeo was let go on Monday, the Predators knew they would have to match their opponent’s intensity. They did that and then some, just the way they hoped to start the home-and-home set with St. Louis.
“That was a huge win for us,” Gaudreau said. “When you have a new coach like that, everyone’s fired up. We had to match that intensity and that energy and see that and I think we did.”
Wednesday’s triumph put an exclamation point on the homestand after the Preds faced their first real bit of adversity of the season with an 0-2-1 stretch last week. But now, that seems like eons ago.
“We did some good things on the road,” Preds Head Coach Peter Laviolette said. “We lost some games and that’s a good way to reset, but I felt like we could’ve won all those games too. We were up in San Jose. We had those chances in the end in Anaheim, and I really like the way we played in Phoenix. It didn’t happen, but it’s about winning hockey games and I thought our guys just stayed with it. The leaders took over, we got back home, started picking up from the way we played in Arizona and started putting our foot down at home. It was good to get back on track and get some wins back in our building.”
First for Freddy:
Yes, there is a technicality to this stat.
Technically Frederick Gaudreau has scored in the NHL before. Three times, in fact, all coming during the Stanley Cup Final with the Preds in 2017. He made a name for himself on that stage.
However, in 41 regular-season games, he had never accomplished the same feat. Until Wednesday night.
After multiple chances during a net mouth scramble, it was everyone’s favorite French Canadian who finished the play, and while some play it cool when they pot their first, Gaudreau’s reaction gave him away.
“Those [Stanley Cup Final goals] were a while ago,” Gaudreau laughed. “I just tried to keep my game simple those past three years and believe the offense would come. It feels good for sure to get that one. I’m just trying to focus on doing the right things. I’m not trying to think too far in those goals and stuff. It feels good for sure to get that one.”
“Freddy works so hard and he’s so skilled,” Watson said of Gaudreau. “It’s tough when those games start to pile up a little bit and you might grip the stick a little bit, but kudos to him for just playing with confidence and being able to pull through.”
As of late, Gaudreau has earned the praises of his head coach, even if he wasn’t scoring. Wednesday’s result was a bonus, and those who know him best couldn’t have been happier for the man they simply call Freddy.
“It seems like he’s gaining confidence in being here and inside of his game,” Laviolette said. He’s been really good in the face-off circle. I think he’s a student of the game. I think he puts a lot of thought into the game on how it should be played. The opportunities that he’s gotten lately, both defensively and offensively, have been very good.”
Notes:
Filip Forsberg’s shorthanded goal was the fifth of his career and his first since the 2016-17 season.
Forsberg now has 22 points (11g-11a) in 21 career games against the Blues, including points in seven of his last eight contests against them.
Nashville has now won seven of its last eight games against St. Louis – including five in a row – and has scored at least four goals in five of those wins.
At home, the Preds are riding a six-game win streak versus the Blues.
The Predators will now travel to St. Louis to finish off a home-and-home set with the Blues on Friday before returning home to host Anaheim on Sunday night in Nashville.
