Coffee County CHS Softball Needs Extra Innings to Beat Warren County

The Coffee County CHS softball team traveled to McMinnville on Monday night to take on Warren County in a game you heard here on Thunder Radio.  Warren County pushed across 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to force extra innings.  The Lady Raiders pushed across a run in the 8th inning to get a 7 to 6 non-district win.

After pushing across a run in the top of the first, Warren County built a 4 to 2 lead going into the 5th inning.  Coffee bounced back to lead 6 to 4 before Warren County tied the game in the 7th.  In the 8th inning, Ashley Evans hit an RBI double to lift the Lady Raiders to their 3rd straight win.

Coffee County banged out 16 hits in the game, but 5 Lady Raider errors allowed 5 unearned runs.  Katie Rutledge got the start in the circle going 5 innings and striking out 4.  At the plate, Rutledge had 3 singles, scored 3 times and drove in 2 to earn the Crazy Daisies player of the game honor.  Justus Turner also hit 3 singles while Kiya Ferrell had a triple, a single and an RBI and Evans finished with a single and a double and 1 RBI.

Coffee County will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Columbia for a district game.  That game begins at 6:30 PM at Terry Floyd Field.

Coffee County Middle School Soccer Slips Past Westwood

For the 2nd year in a row the Westwood Middle and Coffee County Middle School soccer teams met at the Raider Soccer Field at the Coffee County Raider Academy.  The Red Raiders defense did a suburb job of stifling the Rockets offensive attack in the first half as they held on for a 3 to 2 win.

Coffee Middle got on the board first in the 13th minute as Julian Norris banged home a goal.  Javier Rodriquez made it 2 to 0 in the 25th minute as the Raiders held that lead at the half.  In the second half, Breyton Anderson made the score 3 to 0 in the 47th minute.  Westwood was able to add a pair of goals in the final 13 minutes as Izick Sierra and Nico Sanfilipo goals drew the Rockets within one.  The Raiders held off a late push from Westwood to capture the rivalry win.

The Raiders return to the pitch on Wednesday, April 3rd as they play host to conference foe South Franklin.  That match gets underway at 4:30 PM at CCMS.   The Rockets return to the pitch on Wednesday night when they travel to Tullahoma to take on the Cats.  Opening kick is set for 6 PM.

Coffee Couunty Middle School Softball No-Hits North Franklin

The Coffee County Middle School softball team played host to conference rival North Franklin on Monday night.  The Lady Raiders banged out 9 hits and 8th grade pitch Katelyn Davis tossed a no hitter as they put down the Gatorettes 12 to 0.

Coffee County scored in each of their 4 at-bats as they pounded out 9 hits.  Alivia Reel had a pair of doubles as she drove in 4 runs and scored twice.  Chloe Gannon had a pair of singles and Madison Pruitt added a triple.  Davis finished the night with 7 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched while walking just 1.

The win ups the Lady Raiders record to 10 and 0 on the season and 6 and 0 in conference play.  Coffee Middle travels to Winchester on Tuesday night for the 2nd game in the conference series.  First pitch is set for 5 PM.

Westwood Softball Blanks Cannon County on Monday

The Westwood Lady Rockets softball team hosted Cannon County on Monday night in the 2nd game of their season series.  Emma Kidder was once again dominant in the circle as she held the Lionettes to a single hit.  Westwood battled their way to a 2 to 0 win.

After the Lady Rockets scored a run in the bottom of the 1st inning, the teams struggled to get runners in scoring position.  Lilee Scott ripped a 1 out double in the 6th inning and scored on a Cali Clark single to give Kidder an insurance run.  Kidder pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the 7th inning to get the win.  Kidder finished with 16 strikeouts on the night.

Westwood travels to Wartrace on Tuesday as they take on Cascade.  First pitch is set for 5:30 PM.

Coffee County Middle School Baseball Routs North Franklin on Monday

The Coffee County Middle School baseball team welcomed North Franklin to their home field at CCMS on Monday.  After surrendering a first inning run to North, Coffee County roared back to capture an 8 to 1 win.

With the game tied at 1 in the bottom of the second inning, Jacob Holder crushed a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for a grand slam.  Holder finished with a double and a home run and 6 RBI.  Holder also got the win on the bump as he struck out 13 in 5 and 2/3 innings of play.  Cole Pippenger added a pair of singles and 1 RBI.

The win improves Coffee County to 6 and 0 on the year as all 6 wins have come in conference games.  Coffee Middle travels to Winchester on Tuesday night for the 2nd game in the conference series.  First pitch is set for 5 PM.

Westwood Baseball Falls to Cornersville on Monday Night

The Westwood Middle School baseball team traveled to Cornersville on Monday night to take on the Bulldogs in a conference game.   The Rockets surrendered 4 unearned runs and were held to 3 hits in a 5 to 2 defeat.  The loss levels the Rockets record at 2 and 2 on the year.

Westwood got on the board in the 1st inning as Jayden Carter got a walk and came around to score on a Raiden Sain single.  Cornersville took the lead in the 2nd inning as they pushed across 3 runs.  The Bulldogs added single runs in the 4th and 6th innings.  Westwood’s Carter scored 2 runs as he finished with 4 RBI.  Dylen Trail and Trevor Jesse had the other Westwood hits.

The Rockets return to the diamond on Friday night as they play host to Forrest at Fred Deadman Park.  Thunder Radio will be on hand to bring you the broadcast as part of the Gilley Crane Hometown Sports Series.  Jonathan Oliver will have the play by play as first pitch is set for 6:30 PM.  Thunder Radio’s pregame show will kick off our live coverage at 6:20.

Coffee County Baseball Team Gets Road Win at Marshall County

The Coffee County CHS baseball team traveled to Lewisburg on Friday to take on non-district foe Marshall County.  After building a 6 run lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning, the Red Raiders saw Marshall County rally to tie the game in the bottom of the 6th inning.   Coffee County rallied for a run in the top of the 8th to capture a 7 to 6 win.

Leading off the 7th inning, Lane Spry laced a double to centerfield.  After being sacrificed to 3rd base, Spry scored on an RBI groundout by Griffin Meeker.  Meeker came on to pitch in the bottom of the 8th to get the save.  The Red Raiders were held to only 5 hits on the game Hayden Skipper led the Raiders in hitting as he had 3 singles, 2 walks and scored 3 times.

The Red Raiders return to the field on Tuesday when they jump back into district action at home.  Coffee County will play host to Lincoln County in the first of a 2 game series.  Thunder Radio will be on hand to bring you all the action.  Lucky Knott will be on the call with the first pitch set for 6 PM.

Coffee County Soccer Falls in Saturday Tournament Matches

The Coffee County CHS soccer team opened play in the Smoky Mountain Cup Tournament in Gatlinburg on Friday.  Opening up against Henry County, the Coffee County defense got shut out for the 2nd game in a row.  Coffee County fell by a final score of 3 to 0.

Henry County grabbed a pair of first half goals as they scored in the 18th and 36th minutes to carry a 2 nil lead into halftime.   The Patriots added a 2nd half goal to drop Coffee County to 1 and 2 on the young season.

On Saturday, the Red Raiders dropped both of their matches in heart-breaking fashion.   In Saturday morning’s contest against Seymour, Coffee County raced out to a 2 to 0 lead in the first 10 minutes on a pair of goals by Briggs Haithcock.   Seymour notched a goal at the 11 minute mark as the two teams went to the half at 2 to 1.  Seymour tied the match in the 50th minute before knocking home the game winner with 6 minutes left in regulation to claim the 3 to 2 win.  Andres Cavalie and Leo Suarez assisted on Haithcock’s goals.

In the 2nd game of the day Coffee County battled with an extremely talented Morristown West squad.  The Red Raiders held West to 1 second half goal before the Morristown squad rallied for 3 second half goals to drop Coffee County 4 to 0.

Coffee County will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Columbia for a district match.  That match begins at 7 PM at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
