Westwood Softball Ends Regular Season with Win Over Liberty

The Westwood Middle School softball team celebrated 8th Grade Night on Thursday taking on conference foe Liberty.  The Lady Rockets took an early lead and held off a late rally as the won 5 to 4.

After scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning and adding a run in the 5th, it appeared that the Lady Rockets had the game in hand.   Liberty scored 2 runs in the top of the 6th to cut the deficit to 1 and Westwood answered in the bottom of the 6th.  Liberty’s 2 run rally in the 7th came up short as Westwood improved to 8 and 3 on the season.

Brooklyn Blake swung the hot bat as she had a single, a double and a triple while driving in 2 runs.  Emma Kidder had a single and a double and Aeriana Anderson added 2 singles.

The Rockets will now be off until next week’s conference tournament.  The location and first round opponent will be determined at a later date and Thunder Radio will keep you updated.  The Duck River Valley Conference Tournament will be held in Manchester at Fred Deadman Park and Lady Rocket Field.

Westwood and Coffee Middle Split Rivalry Tennis Match

The Coffee County Middle School and Westwood Middle School tennis teams squared off in a good old-fashioned backyard rivalry match on Thursday at the Raider Academy.  As is fitting in a rivalry matchup, the 2 teams split the decision as the Lady Rockets won in girls’ play by a score of 4 to 3 while the Red Raiders won in boys’ action by a score of 5 to 2.

In girls’ singles action, Westwood got singles wins from Rylea McNamara(6-1) and Anna Johnson(6-2).  The Lady Raiders got singles wins from Morgan Tinsley(6-1), Lauren Hogan(6-0) and Kyra Sherrill.  In girls’ doubles action Westwood got both wins as the team of Rylea McNamara and Anna Johnson grabbed a 6 to 2 win while the team of Ocean Filippo and Sarah Khan won 6 to 0.

In boys’ action, Coffee County got singles win from Liam Brown(6-3), Xander Blomquist(7-6), Matthen Blomquist(6-0) and Nolan Sussen(6-4).  Westwood got a win from Jonathan Nelson(6-3).  In doubles’ play the Coffee County team of Brown and Sussen won 6 to 3 while the Westwood team of Nelson and Jeffery Hale won 6 to 4.

Westwood will be back on the court on Monday when they travel to McMinnville for a 4 PM match with Warren County.  Coffee Middle returns to the court on Thursday when they visit Fred Deadman Park for a rematch with Westwood.   That match will also get underway at 4 PM.

Coffee County CHS Soccer Fights to Draw with Franklin County

The Coffee County CHS soccer ventured to Winchester on Thursday night looking to break a 3 game district losing streak.  Single goals in each half resulted in a draw for the district rivals.

I)n the 15th minute, Briggs Haithcock converted a pass from Clinton Ferrell to make it 1 to 0.  Emilio Martinez had a secondary assist.   In the second half, Franklin County leveled the match with a goal in the 55th minute and that is how the match ended.

The Red Raiders return home on Tuesday for a match with Lincoln County.  Thunder Radio will be on hand to bring you all the action as part of the Gilley Crane Hometown Sports Series.  Kickoff is set for 7 PM, Jonathan Oliver will have the play by play beginning at 6:50.

Coffee County CHS Softball Edges Lincoln County

Coming off a big win over Tullahoma on Tuesday, the Coffee County CHS softball team hosted Lincoln County on Wednesday night.   In a game you heard here on Thunder Radio, the Lady Raiders used a 3 run 2nd inning to capture the 3 to 2 win.

Lincoln County got on the board first in the top of the 2nd inning with a run.  In the bottom half of the frame, the Lady Raiders answered with 3 runs, highlighted by a 2 RBI double from Haidyn Campbell.  Lincoln County scored a run in the 3rd to make it a one game but could not get the equalizer.

The Lady Raiders were led in hitting by Kiya Ferrell who had 3 singles.  Campbell finished with a double, a single and 2 RBI as she was tabbed the Crazy Daisies player of the game.  Katie Rutledge had a triple and an RBI single while Sarah West ripped a double.  Keri Munn got the win in the corcle as she scattered 6 hits and struck out 3.

Coffee County is back in action on Thursday, weather permitting, when they travel to Tullahoma to take on the Lady Cats in a makeup game.  First pitch is set for 5 PM.

Coffee County Baseball Completes Sweep of Franklin County

The Coffee County CHS baseball traveled to Winchester on Wednesday night for Game #2 in the season series against Franklin County.  Riding a 4 game winning streak, the Red Raiders rallied from an early deficit to grab the district sweep by a final score of 7 to 5.

After scoring a run in the top of the first inning, the Raiders saw Franklin County bounce back with 2 runs in the bottom of the frame.  Not to be deterred, Coffee County plated 3 runs in the 2nd inning to seize a lead they would never relinquish.

Harley Hinshaw went the distance on the hill as he scattered 9 hits while striking out 2.  Hayden Skipper had a double, a single and 2 RBI to lead the hitting attack.  Griffin Meeker added a pair of singles while Kael McCall had a single and 2 RBI.

The Raiders will be back in action on Thursday, weather permitting, when they return home to host Marshall County.  First pitch is set for 6:30 PM at Powers Field and Thunder Radio will be on hand to bring you the broadcast.  Our live coverage will begin with the pregame show at 6:20.

Coffee County Middle School Softball Completes Perfect Regular Season

The Coffee County Middle School softball team welcomed Warren County to the CCMS field on Wednesday.  The Lady Raiders were looking to close out the regular season with a perfect record against the Lady Pioneers.  It took extra innings but Coffee Middle outlasted the Lady Pioneers 3 to 2.

Warren County jumped out to a 2 to 0 lead in the 1st inning as a pair of singles and an error gave the Lady Pioneers a lead they held onto until the 5th inning.  Katelyn Davis singled home a run in the 1st and Cheyenny Vickers doubled home Savannah Cooper in the bottom of the 5th to send the game to extra innings.  In the 6th, Coffee County loaded the bases on an error and 2 walks before Cooper drilled the first pitch she saw to center field for the win.

Coffee Middle finished the game with 8 hits led by Cooper who finished with 3 singles.  Alivia Reel and Cheyenny Vickers each had a double.  Davis got the win in the circle as she surrendered 2 hits and 1 earned run.  Davis also struck out 8 as the Lady Raiders finish the regular season with a record of 18 and 0.

The Lady Raiders will be back in action next week when they host the CTC postseason tournament.  Coffee County’s first round game time and opponent will be announced early next week.

Westwood Soccer Closes out Regular Season with Win over Cascade

The Westwood soccer team closed out their regular season on Wednesday night at Dyer-Bouldin Field.  Hosting conference rival Cascade, the Rockets had a huge 2nd half as they rolled to a 4 to 0 win.

Westwood got on the board late in the first half as Cascade punched a ball past their own keeper for an own goal.  In the second half, Westwood got a pair of goals from Caleb Cargile and a goal from David Dolack.

The Rockets return to the pitch on Friday, April 26th when they host the Central Tennessee Soccer Conference postseason tournament.  Westwood, with their first place conference finish, has secured the number 1 seed and will host a semifinal game on Friday.  The CTSC final will be held on Saturday, April 27th at Dyer-Bouldin Field.

Westwood Softball Falls at Moore County

The Westwood softball team traveled to Lynchburg on Wednesday night for a 1st place battle in their conference division.  Tied in the loss column with Moore County, the Rockets need a win to solidify their position at the top of the standings.  A rash of Lady Rocket errors led to Westwood’s demise as they fell 7 to 0.

Westwood was held to 3 hits on the night and committed 8 errors.  Emma Kidder took the hard luck loss in the circle as she did not allow an earned run while striking 5

Westwood will host their final home game of the year on Thursday as they welcome Community to Lady Rocket Field.   First pitch is set for 4:30 PM weather permitting.

CCMS Soccer Falls at Tullahoma

The Coffee County Middle School soccer team visited Tullahoma on Wednesday night for a crucial conference matchup.  With 2nd place in the district on the line, the Raiders and the Cats squared off in a battle of rivals.  Coffee County had few answers for Tullahoma as they lost 6 to 2.

Javier Rodriquez had both goals for Coffee Middle as they fell to 3 and 2 in conference play.  The Red Raiders return to the pitch on Friday when they travel to Winchester for a conference tilt with the Gators.  That match will kick off at 4:45 PM at Franklin County High School.
