Coffee County CHS Golf Falls to Shelbyville

The Coffee County CHS golf team welcomed Shelbyville to Willowbrook on Thursday.  Taking on the Eagles in a 9 hole match, both the Raiders and Lady Raiders fell to the visiting Eagle linksters.  The Red Raiders fell 173 to 167.  The Lady Raiders fell 118 to 92.

The Red Raiders were led by Logan Hale and Chris Robinson who each shot a round of 40.  Chase Hancock fired a 42 and David O’Connor added a 51 for Coffee County.  Avery Hill fired a round of 63 and Caleb Jarrell was 2 strokes back at 65.

For the Lady Raiders, Maddie Crouch shot the Lady Raiders low round as she finished with a round of 56.  Cadie Prater carded a 62 for Coffee County.

The Raider golfers will hit the road on Monday when they head up Highway 55 for a match with the rival Pioneers.  That match will tee off at 4 PM at McMinnville Country Club.

Westwood Cross Country Runners Open Season With Strong Performance

The Westwood cross country team opened their season on Thursday in Bell Buckle in a meet hosted by Webb.  While team scores were not available at press time, 3 Rocket runners and 5 Lady Rocket runners finished in the Top 50 of their respective divisions.

For the Lady Rockets, Ryleah McNamara was the top finisher as she broke the tape in 17th place with a time of 14:15.  Kailee Rossman was right on her heels in 18th place with a time of 14:19.  Jenny Sanchez finished in 40th place with a time of 16:17; Kimberly Garcia finished in 45th place with a time of 16:54 and Reagan Dubler came in 50th place with a time of 17:41.

For the Rockets, Nico Sanfilippo was the top finisher with a time of 11:39 to finish in 6th place.  Aiden Smith came in 13th place with a time of 12:06 and Caleb Cargile was 31st with a time of 12:47.

The Rocket runners will return to action on Tuesday when they will compete in the Coffee County Meet at Old Stone Fort State Park.  The first race will get underway at 4 PM.

Coffee County CHS Cross Country Team Fares Well at Webb School Meet

Coffee County CHS cross country team traveled to Bell Buckle on Thursday to compete in a meet at Webb School. While team scores were not available at press time, the CHS team got an individual win in the boys’ race and a 5th place finish in the girls’ race.

Jacob Rutledge captured the title in the boys’ race and he finished in 1st place with at time of 18:53.75. Other Raider runners in the top 50 were:
Renato Ayala – 7th place with a time of 20:35.15:
Garrett Masters – 18th place with a time of 21:48.26;
Landon Kenney – 24th place with a time of 21:54.86;
Christian Alvarez – 30th place with a time of 22:03.49;
Ethan Welch – 33rd place with a time of 22:29,08;
Jacob Slabaugh – 38th place with a time of 22:4.98.

Patricia Barrera was the top runner for the Lady Raiders as she came in 5th place with a time of 25:12.81. Other Lady Raider runners in the Top 50 were:
Madison Rooker – 17th place with a time of 27:12.24;
Nayeli Cano – 30th place with a time of 28:13;
Zoe Mills – 39th place with a time of 28:49.13.

The Raider runners will return to action on Tuesday when they will compete in the Coffee County Meet at Old Stone Fort State Park. The first race will get underway at 4 PM.

CCMS Cross Country Team Performs Well at Bell Buckle

Coffee County Middle School cross country team traveled to Bell Buckle on Thursday to compete in a meet at Webb School.  While team scores were not available at press time, the Raider harriers captured a race win and 3 top 10 finishes.

The Lady Raiders placed a pair of runners in the Top 3 as Sophie McInturff won the girls’ race and Greenlee Woods captured a 5th place finish.  For the Raiders, Lucas Beaty was the top finisher as he captured a 5th place finish.

The Raider runners will return to action on Tuesday when they will compete in the Coffee County Meet at Old Stone Fort State Park.  The first race will get underway at 4 PM.

Coffee County CHS Volleyball Battles to 3 Set Win over Eagleville

In an annual tradition, the Coffee County CHS volleyball team traveled to Eagleville on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Lady Eagles in front of the Eagleville student body.   The Lady Raiders used a strong service game to get the straight set win.  Coffee County won by set scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-22.

With a serving effectiveness of 93.2% and 15 aces, the Lady Raiders controlled the tempo of the match.  Defensively, Coffee County had 8 blocks and 37 digs as they were able to thwart the Eagleville offensive attack.

Coffee County was led at the net by Keri Munn who had 5 blocks and 6 kills.  Kiya Ferrell led the Lady Raiders in kills with 7.  Abigail Parker had the team lead in aces as she served up 6.  Amanda Mukai was right behind her with 5 aces and had the team lead in assists with 8.  Sarah West led Coffee County in digs with 12.

The Lady Raiders will return home on Thursday night for a district contest with Franklin County.  First serve is set for 6:30 PM.

CCMS Volleyball Sweeps South Franklin on Wednesday

Hosting a match for the second day in a row, the Coffee County Middle School volleyball team welcomed South Franklin to the CCMS gym on Wednesday.  The Lady Raiders rode a strong service game to a dominating win over the Lady Trojans.  Coffee County won by set scores of 25-8 and 25-8.

The Lady Raiders will hit the road on Monday as they travel to Flintville.  That non-conference match will get underway at 5:30 PM.

Westwood Soccer Battles Fayetteville on Wednesday Night

In a match originally scheduled for August 27th, the Westwood soccer team welcomed Fayetteville to Dyer-Bouldin Field on Wednesday night.  The young and improving Lady Rockets gave their best effort of the season but fell to a strong Lady Tigers team.  Fayetteville defeated Westwood 7 to 2.

Lillian Call had a first half goal for the Lady Rockets.   Leonor Moreno-Rivera scored on a penalty kick in the second half.  The Lady Rockets will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Shelbyville.  Westwood will take on Liberty in the conference matchup.  Opening kick is set for 4:30 PM.

CCMS Volleyball Claims 2 Set Win Over Westwood on Tuesday

The first sports matchup of the year between cross-town rivals Coffee County Middle School and Westwood took place on Tuesday. The Lady Rocket volleyball team visited the Lady Raiders at CCMS in a match heard here on Thunder Radio. In a match that featured numerous momentum changes, the Lady Raiders prevailed in straight sets 25-18 and 27-25.

Westwood took an early 8 to 4 lead in the first set only to see Coffee County roar back take the lead at 10. After Coffee County built a 19 to 11 lead, Westwood rallied to cut the deficit to 20 to 18. Coffee County closed the game out with 5 straight points to win the set. In the 2nd set, Coffee County roared out to an 11 to 0 lead before Westwood fought all the way back to reach a set point at 25 to 24. Coffee County got the final 3 points to claim the match.

The Lady Raiders were led in kills by Katie Lawrence who had 4 while Kurry Neel finished with 3 kills. Madison Pruitt led Coffee Middle in aces with 6. Gracie Campbell and Savannah Cooper each finished with 2 aces. Campbell led the Lady Raiders in assists with 6 while Pruitt finished with 3 assists.

The Lady Rockets were led in kills by Zowee Dillard who had 4. Lilee Scott added 3 kills and led the team in aces with 4 and assists with 4. Allie Sullivan added 3 assists for Westwood.

The Lady Raiders will be back at home on the court on Wednesday as they host South Franklin. That match gets underway at 4:30 PM. The Lady Rockets will be back at home on Thursday as they host North Franklin for a doubleheader. That match also gets underway at 4:30 PM.
