CCMS Volleyball Sweeps South Franklin on Wednesday

The Coffee County Middle School volleyball team headed to Cowan on Wednesday night to take on South Franklin in their final conference match of the season.  The Lady Raiders did a great job at the service line and passed the ball well in getting a straight set road win.  Coffee County won by set scores of 25-4 and 25-15.

Coach Tori Taylor praised the serving of Gracie Campbell and the passing of Savannah Cooper.  The JV team also claimed a 2 set win over the South JV.  The Lady Raiders will return to action on Monday when they travel across town to take on Westwood.  First serve is set for 4:30 PM.

Westwood Volleyball Drops a Pair of Road Matches

The Westwood volleyball team made the long trek to Fayetteville on Tuesday to take on South Lincoln.  The Lady Rockets fell in straight sets 25-14 and 25-11.  The Lady Rockets got a pair of aces from Lilee Scott and a pair of blocks from Zowee Dillard.  Dillard finished with a pair of kills and Joely Sain led the team in digs.

On Wednesday, the Lady Rockets traveled to Tullahoma and continued to show improvement.  Westwood gave Tullahoma all they could handle before falling in straight sets 25-19 and 25-19.  Rylee Clark led Westwood in aces with 2.  Joely Sain had 3 blocks and 3 digs to lead the Lady Rockets in both categories.  Mattalyn Goney led Westwood in kills with 2.

The Lady Rockets return to the court on Saturday when they travel to McMinnville to take part in the Warren County Tournament.

CCMS Soccer Falls at Harris on Wednesday

The Coffee County Middle School soccer team traveled to Shelbyville on Wednesday night for a make-up game with Harris.  Taking on the top ranked team in the conference, the Lady Raiders ran into an experienced and talented Eaglette squad.  The varsity squad dropped a 7 nil decision while the JV battled hard before falling 2 nil.

In the varsity game, the Lady Raiders were held to 1 shot, taken by Jasmine Norris.  Lady Raider keeper Sydney Gilley finished the match with 15 saves.  In the JV game, keeper Hailey Campbell also finished with 15 saves.

Next up for the varsity Lady Raiders is the CTC conference tournament to be held on Saturday, September 28th in Winchester.  The JV Lady Raiders will be in action this weekend as they participate in the conference JV tournament in Tullahoma. The JV Lady Raiders will take on North Franklin at 9:50 AM.  A win moves them into the 12:45 PM championship match.  A loss would but the Lady Raiders in the 11:10 AM consolation game.

Coffee County Middle School Football Rolls Past Warren County

The Coffee County Middle School football team celebrated 8th Grade Night on Tuesday as they hosted Warren County at Carden-Jarrell Field.  In a game you heard here on Thunder Radio as part of the 1st National Bank Hometown Sports Series, the Red Raiders got 4 touchdowns in the 1st quarter as they coasted to a 29 to 8 win.

Jaiden Foster returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown and 10 seconds into the game the Raiders had a 7 to 0 lead after the Ethan Hargrove point after kick.  Cole Pippenger had a pair of touchdown runs and caught a Jackson Shemwell pass for a touchdown as the Raiders led 26 to 0 after the first 8 minutes.  Ethan Hargrove added a 23 yard field goal as time expired in the half to give Coffee Middle the 29 to 0 lead at intermission.  In the 2nd half, Warren County scored a safety and a defensive touchdown against the Red Raider reserves for the final margin.

Coffee County was led in rushing by Brendan Sheppard who had 40 yards on 7 carries.  Pippenger added 30 yards on 4 rushes and Jackson Shemwell ran it 2 times for 23 yards.

The win moves the Red Raiders conference record to 4 and 1 and puts the Raiders 1 win away from a berth in the CTC Championship game.  The Red Raiders will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Sparta to take on White County.  Kick-off is set for 6:30 PM.

Coffee County CHS Volleyball Sweeps Lincoln County on Tuesday Night

The Coffee County CHS volleyball team opened up a crucial week of district play on Tuesday as the welcomed Lincoln County to the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym.  Needing a win to stay in a 1st place tie in the district race, the Lady Raiders came out focused and ready as they swept the Lady Falcons.  Coffee County won in straight sets 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17.

Coffee County played great defense and only gave up 2 service errors to grind out the crucial win.  The Lady Raiders had an amazing 55 digs in the match on serve receive and added 5 ½ blocks.  Kiya Ferrell led in both categories as she had 3 blocks and tied with Sarah West for 15 digs.  Amanda Mukai gave Coffee County 16 assists and a pair of service aces.  Keri Munn also had 2 aces and 7 kills.  Keelie Hillis led the Lady Raiders in kills with 9 while adding 8 assists and 5 digs.

The Lady Raiders are back in action on Thursday when they host Columbia at the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym.  First serve is scheduled for 6:30 PM.

Coffee County CHS Soccer Tames Columbia on Tuesday

Hitting the road for the first of 2 away matches this week, the Coffee County CHS soccer team traveled to Columbia to take on the Lady Lions on Tuesday night.  In a repeat performance from the first matchup between these 2 teams, the Lady Raiders dominated the 2nd half to power to the win.  On Tuesday, Coffee County downed Columbia 6 to 1.

Coffee County got on the board in the 8th minute when Jenna Garretson converted a Reyna Flores pass into a goal to put the Lady Raiders up 1 nil.  Ellie Fann made it 2 nil in the 15th minute off an assist from Clarissa Barrera.  Columbia notched a goal 10 minutes later but Katie Cotten gave Coffee County a 2 goal lead going into intermission in the 39th minute off an assist from Kyleigh Harner.

In the 2nd half, Coffee County got a pair of goals from Jayda Wright on free kicks.  The first came on from 30 yards out in the 49th minute and the final goal came from 25 yards out in the 78th minute.  Between those 2 kicks, Reyna Flores scored the other goal for the Lady Raiders in the 60th minute.

Coffee County will travel to Tullahoma on Thursday night for a non-district rivalry match against the Lady Cats.  That match will take place at 7 PM at East Middle School.

Westwood Football Comes Up Short at MTCS

The Westwood football team closed out their regular season on the road on Tuesday as they traveled to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee Christian School.  Taking on the unbeaten Cougars, Westwood fell behind early before battling MTCS nose to nose throughout the 2nd half.  MTCS took the victory 40 to 22.

After MTCS roared out to a 20 to 0 lead, Braydon Dixon got a 28 yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter.  Jayden Carter added the 2 point conversion to cut the deficit to 20 to 8.  The Cougars tacked on a late touchdown to take a 28 to 8 lead into the half.  In the second half, MTCS got a touchdown early in the 3rd quarter before Westwood got a touchdown run on a quarterback sneak from Carter.  After the Izick Sierra point after kick, the Rockets trailed 34 to 15.  In the 4th quarter, Dixon broke loose on a 52 yard run and the point after kick cut the deficit to 34 to 22.  MTCS poked in a late touchdown to finish with the 40 to 22 win.

The Rockets will return home on Tuesday to take on Community for a JV game.  This game will kick off at 6:30 PM at Dyer-Bouldin Field.

CCMS Soccer Team Blanked in Regular Season Finale

The Coffee County Middle School soccer team closed out the regular season on Tuesday as they welcomed Warren County to the CCMS pitch.  Honoring ten 8th graders on 8th grade night, the Lady Raiders were looking for a revenge win over Warren County.  Warren County used a big 2nd half to claim a 4 to 0 win.

Coffee County had a great defensive performance in the 1st half as they went to intermission even at 0.  In the 2nd half, Warren County pushed the tempo and got the deciding goals in spite of 13 saves by Lady Raider keeper Sydney Gilley.

After the match, Coffee County honored 8th graders: Jorja Waggoner, Bethany Lambert, Brianna Rigsby, Lindsey Grimes, Caitlyn Garret, Sydney Gilley, Kieran Welch, Emma Mullins, Emily Pickell, and Ava McDonough

Next up for the varsity Lady Raiders is the CTC conference tournament to be held on Saturday, September 28th in Winchester.  The JV Lady Raiders will be in action this weekend as they participate in the conference JV tournament in Tullahoma. Game times will be announced at a later date
