Rain cancelled and postponed most all sports on Monday – but not Coffee Middle Golf. The Raiders went to Bear Trace and left with a 10 flags to 2 win over Franklin County.
The CMS team of Noah Costello and James Bradley earned 1.5 flags. Meanwhile, Tallan Crosslin and Skylar Releford picked up 2.5 flags. The teams of Cade Williams and Lucas Turner and Brayden Kesling and Luke Lowe each notched 3 flags for a dominating afternoon for CMS.

Rain washes out CHS baseball, softball Monday
Rain forced rescheduling for the CHS baseball and softball teams on Monday.
The Lady Raiders, who were scheduled to host Franklin County postponed that game to Monday, May 2.
Meanwhile, the Raider baseball team was scheduled to begin its final district series of the season against Shelbyville. Monday’s game was pushed to Wednesday – so the Raiders will travel to Shelbyville Tuesday and then host the Eagles on Wednesday – first pitch at 6 p.m. both nights.
Westwood announces change to girls basketball tryouts
Westwood Middle School Lady Rocket head basketball coach Shala Ferrell has announced a slight adjustment to tryouts dates for next year’s team.
Tryouts will be held from 3:15-4:45 p.m. on May 11 and 13 at Westwood’s Joel Vinson Gymnasium. Tryouts are for upcoming 6th through 8th graders. There will be no tryouts on May 12 due to a conflict.
The Lady Rockets are coming off an incredibly successful season that saw them go unbeaten in conference play on their way to a conference championship. WMS lost just one regular season game.

SOFTBALL: Lady Raiders sweep Saturday tournament games over Boyd Buchanan, Greenbriar
After dropping two tough extra-inning games on Friday night, the Coffee County Lady Raider softball team bounced back Saturday with a pair of wins to close out the Coffee County Classic in Manchester.
The Lady Raiders came from behind to beat Boyd Buchanan 6-4 before dismissing Greenbriar 10-5 in a pair of games at Dave King Park – you heard both on Thunder Radio.
Coffee County 6, Boyd Buchanan 4
Shaky defense and some well placed Boyd Buchanan hits put the Lady Bucs in front 4-1 after two innings. But the Lady Raiders responded in a big way with 4 in the third an an insurance run in the fourth to pick up the win.
Emily Schuster was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs in the win.
Kaitlyn Davis entered in the third inning to relieve Channah Gannon in the circle and immediately settled the Lady Raider defense – allowing only 2 hits and no runs over the final three innings while striking out 4. None of the 4 runs given up by Gannon were earned.
Davis also made an impact at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double.
Coffee County 10, Greenbriar 5
The Lady Raiders and Lady Cats were tied 4-4 entering the 5th before Coffee County erupted for 6 in the 5th inning to put it out of reach.
Olivia Evans notched a pair of doubles, picked up 2 RBI and three stolen bases in the win for the Lady Raiders. She also scored twice.
Gannon also doubled in the win for Coffee County. In total, the Lady Raiders outhit Greenbriar 13-5 but 4 Lady Raider errors kept Greenbriar close for four innings.
CHS improves to 17-12 win the wins Saturday.
BASEBALL: Raiders give up 6 unanswered in Friday loss to Tullahoma

Coffee County led 4-2 and looked to be on its way to a win over Tullahoma – but the Wildcats scored 3 runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to pull ahead and beat the Raiders 8-4 – a game you heard live on Thunder Radio.
The Raiders led 4-2after 4 innings behind strong nights from Brady Nugent and Caleb Moran. Nugent doubled and scored twice. Moran had 3 hits and a pair of RBIs.
But four defensive errors and a timely hit by Joe Duncan pushed the Wildcats in front.
Timothy Henderson started for the Raiders and worked 3 solid innings – allowing 2 runs (none earned) while striking out a batter. Cole Pippenger was tagged with the loss in relief. He allowed 6 runs (4 earned) while striking out three.
The loss drops the Raiders to 8-13 on the year.
SOFTBALL: Lady Raiders comeback to force extras before falling to Baylor

What looked hopeless for Coffee County turned on two big swings in the sixth inning Friday against Baylor.
After striking out in 14 out of 16 at bats from the first inning to the sixth inning, the Lady Raiders got two big home runs to force extra innings with Baylor before falling 5-4 in the first game of the Coffee County Classic at Terry Floyd Field in Manchester.

Trailing 4-1 and down to their final out, Haidyn Campbell blasted a home run to left centerfield to cut the Baylor lead to 4-2. After a 2-out single by Jalyn Moran, Kaitlyn Davis hit her 7th home run of the season to tie the game at 4-4.
But the Lady Raiders couldn’t plate another run and eventually lost on a walk-off RBI single by Holly Merritt in the bottom of the 8th.
Baylor scored 4 runs in the first inning and that was all until the 8th. Kaitlyn Davis stymied Baylor in the middle innings. She is tagged with the loss – allowing 4 runs on 8 hits.
Coffee County’s other run came in the first inning when Campbell singled home Kiya Ferrell. Campbell was named Thunder Radio Player of the Game.
CTC TOURNAMENT: Lady Raiders spank Tullahoma again to claim title
It was a championship game. But it was hardly close.
For the second day in a row, the Coffee Middle School Lady Raiders run-ruled Tullahoma Middle – this time in the CTC Championship game, winning 11-1 in Manchester.
Hayleigh Skipper and Maggie Montgomery each had two doubles, Ella Arnold tripled and Kamryn Hoback added a double as CMS beat Tullahoma into submission. Skipper finished with 4 RBI and McBride added 3.
Madi Scott earned the win in the circle – striking out 9 while scattering 5 hits.
BASEBALL: Strong pitching, defense leads Rockets past Cornersville
Westwood started strong, finished strong and took a 7-4 win over Cornersville Thursday night in Manchester.
The Rockets took a 2-1 lead in the first inning and then never trailed the rest of the way out.
Seven different rockets contributed one hit – Davis McKenzie with a triple and three runs scored. Matt Moore knocked in a pair of runs and scored once for the Rockets.
Kaysen Lowery worked 4 1/3 innings to pick up the win on the mound. He struck out 6 while scattering 5 hits. Westwood will begin the CTC conference tournament April 30.
CTC TOURNAMENT: Coffee Middle spanks Tullahoma, advances to title game
There is dominating a team. Then there is dismantling them.
Coffee Middle did the latter to Tullahoma in the winner’s bracket finals of the CTC tournament Thursday in Manchester. The Lady Raiders ripped 18 hits, including 5 doubles, in an 18-1 drubbing of rival Tullahoma.
The win puts the Lady Raiders in the CTC Championship game at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Coffee Middle School.
Thursday night in Manchester, the Lady Raiders took a 5-0 lead from the start – then piled on five in the third and six in the fifth inning.
Madi Scott was at the top of the offensive effort with 4 hits, including a pair of doubles. Ella Arnold and Taylor McBride each had three hits. Kayleigh Buckley had 4 RBI. Arnold knocked in 3. Kamryn Hoback and Scott each knocked in 2.
Scott earned the win in the circle – mowing down the Tullahoma lineup with 9 strikeouts over 5 innings. She only gave up 2 hits – giving up 1 run.
