Coffee County CHS Softball Grabs Road Win at Moore County

The Coffee County CHS softball team traveled to Lynchburg on Wednesday to do battle with Moore County.  In a game originally scheduled for Terry Floyd Field, a torrential rainfall on Wednesday afternoon necessitated the change of venue. In a game you heard here on Thunder Radio, the Lady Raiders banged out 9 hits in a 6 to 1 win. 

After each team plated a run in the 1st inning, Coffee County took the lead for good in the 3rd inning as they pushed a pair of runs across on a Gracie Pippenger single.  The Lady Raiders added 2 more runs in the 4th and a single run in the 5th to grab their 2nd win of the year. 

Pippenger finished the game with a double, 2 singles and 3 RBI as she was named the Mid Tenn Turf player of the game.  Sarah West finished with a double and a single with an RBI.  Ashley Evans finished with a double and 2 runs scored.   Haidyn Campbell got the start in the circle and got the win as she surrendered 4 hits, 1 unearned run while striking out 1.  Emily Schuster pitched 2 innings striking out 2 while Kaitlyn Davis pitched the 7th inning as she struck out 3. 

The Lady Raiders will travel to Shelbyville on Thursday night for their first district game of the year.  Weather permitting; first pitch is set for 7 PM at Shelbyville Central High School.

Coffee County CHS Baseball Drops Heartbreaker to Columbia on Wednesday Night

The Coffee County CHS baseball team hosted Columbia on Wednesday in the 2nd game of their season series.  The Red Raiders were looking to bounce back from a loss to the Lions on Monday in Columbia.  The Red Raiders fought hard before falling 2 to 1. 

Coffee County pushed a run across in the 2nd inning without getting a hit as Brandon Jernigan got on board on a dropped 3rd strike and his courtesy runner came around to score on an RBI groundout by Dylan Koon.  Columbia scored twice in the 6th inning as they strung together a walk, 2 singles and a fielder’s choice.   Hayden Skipper had the only hit for Coffee County with that coming to lead off the bottom of the 1st inning.  Griffin Meeker took the loss on the bump for Coffee County as he surrendered 1 earned run while surrendering 5 hits and striking out 2.

The Red Raiders will return to action on Friday at Powers Field.  Coffee County will host Pope John Paul II in a non-district game.  First pitch is set for 3:30 PM and Thunder Radio will be on hand to bring you the broadcast.  Our live coverage begins with the pregame show at 3:20. 

Westwood Soccer Team Routs Webb on Wednesday Afternoon

The Westwood soccer team traveled to Bell Buckle on Wednesday to take on conference rival Webb.  Looking to keep their perfect record intact, the Rockets jumped on the Feet early as they rolled to a 9 to 0 Mercy Rule win. 

The Rockets rolled to a 6 nil lead at the half as they scored 3 goals in the first 12 minutes to seize control of the match.  Caleb Cargile scored in the 10th minute on an assist by Junior Petatan.   Cargile scored again in the 11th off a feed from William Rogers.  Izick Sierra notched a goal in the 12th minute off an assist from Aiden Smith.  Petatan made it 4 to 0 in the 18th minute with an assist from Sierra.  Petatan added his second goal in the 21st with Torian Van Zandbergen getting the assist.  Cargile notched the hat trick in the 23rd minute with Petatan adding a 2nd assist. 

In the 2nd half, Westwood got goals from Elijah McCoy, Cy Brody Dyer and Aiden Smith while Joan James, Jose Barrera and Nico Sanfilippo provided assists.  Westwood’s defense did not surrender a shot on goal in the match.  Elijah McCoy started the match in goal, Sierra came on in the 2nd half to finish the game in goal. 

Westwood returns to Bedford County on Thursday for a conference match with Cascade.  Weather permitting, kickoff is set for 4:15 PM.

CHS Baseball Clinic Rescheduled

The Coffee County CHS baseball team will once again be hosting their annual Spring Baseball Clinic. The clinic has been moved from Saturday, March 14th to Saturday, March 21st.  Players will utilize the facilities at Powers Field and the Crethan Hansert Hitting Facility on the campus of Coffee County Central High School.  Campers will work with Red Raiders head coach David Martin and his staff along with members of the CHS varsity baseball team.  Each camper will receive age appropriate, hands-on instruction in all aspects of the game.

The clinic is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 17 who wish to learn more about hitting, defense, base running and pitching.  Campers should bring with them a bat, glove, tennis shoes, cleats, hat and batting helmet to the camp which will run from 9 AM to Noon.   Concessions will also be made available at Powers Field on the day of the clinic.

Predators Tie for Wild Card with Win Against Canadiens

The Nashville Predators moved into a tie for the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference with a 4-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Tuesday.

Filip Forsberg had two goals and an assist for Nashville (35-26-8), which scored four goals in the second period and won its third straight game. The Predators are tied with the Winnipeg Jets, one point ahead of the Minnesota Wild.

Forsberg tied Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber for second on the Predators goals list with 166.

Juuse Saros made 32 saves after getting consecutive shutouts against the Dallas Stars. His shutout streak ended at 181:06 when Artturi Lehkonen pulled Montreal within 4-1 at 2:45 of the third period.

Lukas Vejdemo scored his first NHL goal, and Carey Price made 32 saves for Montreal (31-31-9), which is 4-8-2 in its past 14 games.

Ryan Johansen gave Nashville a 1-0 lead at 51 seconds of the second.

Calle Jarnkrok made it 2-0 from the right face-off circle at 2:57.

Forsberg made it 3-0 on the power play at 8:18. He took a pass from Roman Josi and scored on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle to become the first Nashville player with six 20-goal seasons.

Josi also assisted on Forsberg’s goal at 16:00. The defenseman redirected Ryan Ellis’ pass in the slot to Forsberg, who scored on a low shot from the right side to make it 4-0.

Coffee County CHS Baseball Falls in Season Opener at Columbia

The Coffee County CHS baseball team opened the season on the road in Columbia on Monday.  In a district matchup you heard here on Thunder Radio, the Red Raiders surrendered 3 unearned runs in the 1st inning in a 7 to 3 loss.

Hayden Skipper got the start on the mound and surrendered a leadoff walk that came around to score after an error on a sacrifice bunt.  Columbia built a 7 to 0 lead as Lion pitcher Jaden Hamm carried a no-hitter into the 5th inning. In the 5th, the Red Raiders rallied for 3 runs and loaded the bases before Columbia stalled the rally. Skipper had an RBI double for the big hit of the frame. Skipper had the only extra base hit in the game for Coffee County as he was named the Mid Tenn Turf player of the game. Coffee County finished with 3 hits as Skylar Bratcher and Lane Spry added singles.

The Red Raiders will host their home opener on Tuesday for the 2nd game of the district series with Columbia.  First pitch is set for 4 PM at Powers Field; weather permitting.  

Coffee County Softball Opens Season With Home Victory

The Coffee County CHS softball team welcomed Warren County to Terry Floyd Field on Monday for their season opener.  The Lady Raiders built a 4 run lead heading to the 7th inning but a pair of errors cut the lead to 1.  Keri Munn pitched out of the jam to get the 5 to 4 win over the Lady Pioneers.

After scoring single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings, Coffee County saw Warren County cut the deficit to 1 run in the 3rd.  The Lady Raiders tallied 3 runs in the 4th inning as they strung together 3 hits and a hit batter to build the 5 to 1 lead.  In the 7th, Warren County plated 3 unearned runs before Munn coaxed a groundout to capture the win.

Munn got the win in the circle as she struck out 11 without giving up an earned run.  Munn finished with a double and 2 RBI at the plate.  Gracie Pippenger and Olivia Evans each had a pair of singles.
