GAMEDAY: Raiders travel to top-ranked Oakland, broadcast on Thunder Radio

Coffee County Central High School’s Red Raider football team will travel to take on the state’s top-ranked Oakland Patriots in Murfreesboro at 7 p.m. Friday.

There will be no tickets sold at the gate. Per standard rules for the season, temperatures will be checked at the gate and masks are required. If you wish to purchase tickets, you will need to do so through Ticket Spice. You can get the exact link you need by clicking here.

If you can’t make the game, you can listen live on your home for all Red Raider and Lady Raider athletics – Thunder Radio. The Friday Night Thunder Pregame show begins at 6 p.m., with kickoff to follow and the Friday Night Thunder Postgame Show (delivered by Riddle Trucking) to follow.

Rockets sweep Cascade Thursday night

In a pair of games you heard on Thunder Radio Thursday night as part of The Hometown Sports Series, presented by Mid Tenn Turf, The Westwood basketball teams each picked up wins over visiting Cascade.

The Westwood Lady Rockets got 13 points from Keina Seivers and 11 from Audri Patton to pick up a 33-26 win over the visiting Cascade Lady Champions Thursday night.

Westwood had a 15-10 halftime lead before pulling away in the second half.

The Rocket boys got an offensive explosion, racking up 58 points on their way to a 58-44 win.

The contributions came from everywhere for Westwood – as the Rockets got points from 12 different players.

Caiden Warren led the way with 12 points, followed by Cayden Trail with 11. Jaiden Warren added eight, Lane Fann six, Jayden Carter six and Blake Hillis four. Brayden Trail, Matthew White, Blake Cummings, Dylen Trail and Skylar Stinson all notched a pair of points, while Matt Moore added a point.

Braves have 3 Gold Glove Finalists

Three different Atlanta Braves have been nominated for Gold Glove awards.

Pitcher Max Fried, shortstop Dansby Swanson and outfielder Ronald Acuna, Jr., have all been nominated for the league’s most prestigious defensive award.

The Braves season ended with a game 7 loss to the Dodgers in the NLCS. Thunder Radio is your home for the Atlanta Braves.

Rocket basketball falls to Eagleville; play on Thunder Radio Thursday

A huge third quarter for Eagleville was costly to the Westwood Rocket basketball team Tuesday night, as the Rockets fell 43-30.

Eagleville came out of the locker room and outscored the rockets 18-6 in the third quarter to build a gap Westwood couldn’t close in the final period.

Westwood Got 12 points from Jayden Carter and 10 from Jaiden Warren on the night.

Westwood will be back in action Thursday night Thursday, when the Rockets and Lady Rockets host Cascade beginning at 6 p.m. You can listen to that game live on Thunder Radio as part of the Mid Tenn Turf Hometown Sports Series on Thunder Radio. Courtney Steere will deliver the play by play.

Westwood softball needs your help: sign up for co-ed softball games, home run derby

The Westwood Lady Rocket softball team needs to replace the fence around its field.

To do this, the team will be hosting co-ed games and a home run derby!

The contests will be held on Nov. 2 Games will be at 5 p.m. with the home run derby to follow. Admission is $5 and all events will be held at the Westwood Middle School softball field.

Titans’ Adoree Jackson set to return from injury

The Titans on Wednesday moved cornerback Adoree’ Jackson to the team’s ‘Designated for Return’ list.

It’s a positive step for Jackson, and the Titans.

This designation will open up a three-week window for Jackson to practice with the team, and he will not count against the team’s 53-man roster until being activated from Injured Reserve.

Jackson, a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft who has started 39 games over the past four seasons, was placed on IR in September due to a knee injury.

Westwood Rocket sixth graders blow past West Tullahoma

The Westwood Rocket Sixth Grade basketball team picked up a solid 39-20 win over West Tullahoma Monday night.

Kayson Lowery led the way for the Rockets with 10 points, followed by Matthew White with 8. Also scoring for the Rockets were Elijah Vernon with 5 points, Carter Bell, Aiden Walker and Keller Hatfield all with four, and Gabriel Hambly with two points.

The varsity Westwood Rockets and Lady Rockets will be at home Thursday, Oct. 22 to host Cascade. Thunder Radio will be on hand to broadcast those games as part of the Mid Tenn Turf Hometown Sports Series on Thunder Radio.

It will be the first winter sports hometown sports series broadcast of the season. Courtney Steere will handle the play-by-play.

CHS releases Raider, Lady Raider basketball schedules

After delays and many last minute additions and changes, the Coffee County Central High School Red Raider and Lady Raider basketball teams have released their schedules for the upcoming 2020-2021 season. There could still be schedule changes as both teams look to make more last minute additions.

Anticipation is high as both teams are coming off of District 8-AAA titles.

By design, the Raiders and Lady Raiders have front-loaded the schedule with tough non-district competition to prepare for deep postseason runs – including a home games with White County and Blackman to go with a road trip to Riverdale.

The Red Raiders open the season by hosting Knowledge Academy in a boys only contest at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders open up their campaign by hosting Siegel on Friday, Nov. 20. The Lady Raiders will turn around to host Goodpasture in a girls-only game on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The first boys and girls double-header will be Tuesday, Nov. 24, when both teams host White County. Thunder Radio, your locally owned community radio station, continues to be your home for all Red Raider and Lady Raider sports.
