12/30/12 —- James Anthony Lowhorn

James Anthony Lowhorn, of Estill Springs, passed this life on Tuesday, December 25th, 2012 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester at the age of 57.

Mr. Lowhorn was born in Tullahoma, TN to the late Sherman and Dorothy Lowhorn.

During his life, Mr. Lowhorn worked as an Operating Engineer for ATA at AEDC and was currently the Fire Chief of the Estill Springs Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. He joined the Fire Department in 1980 where he became Chief in 1990, and later received the honor of being Firefighter of the Year in 1997. Mr. Lowhorn was a former member of the Estill Springs Zoning and Planning Commission and the Franklin County Communication Board. He was an Alumni Member of the National Fire Academy and was a Certified Firefighter through the State of Tennessee and was also an Active Medical First Responder for the Estill Springs Fire Department. Mr. Lowhorn was also a member of the Franklin County Fire Chief’s Association, where he previously served as a Chairman and was currently serving as Treasurer, The Tennessee Fire Chief’s Association, where he was a current member on the Sub Committee for Volunteer Fire Departments, The Franklin County Police and Fire Memorial Association where he had served as a past Chairman, a member of the Tennessee Association of Rescue Squads and the Tennessee Public Fire Educators Association. He was a member of the Estill Springs Masonic Lodge and also served as a Shriner, the International Union of Operating Engineers, the Estill Springs Lion’s Club and the Sons of the American Legion. Mr. Lowhorn was a member of Estill Springs Methodist Church where he was in Bill Peter’s Sunday School Class. Apart from his duties with the Fire Department, he coached T-Ball, Little League and Soccer and was an avid Tennessee Volunteer Football fan.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lowhorn is preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Lowhorn.

He is survived by his wife, Ivy Lowhorn of Estill Springs; two sons, Ryan Lowhorn and his wife Adrian “Ace” of Estill Springs and Aaron Lowhorn and his wife Ana of Estill Springs; two brothers, Gary Lowhorn and his wife Robin of Knoxville and Jeff Lowhorn of Tullahoma; and one granddaughter, Lexi Lowhorn of Estill Springs.

Visitation for Mr. Lowhorn will be held on Saturday, December 29th, 2012 from 5:30-9:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home. Funeral and Masonic Services will be held on Sunday, December 30th, 2012 at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Rutherford officiating.

Burial will follow at Lynchburg City Cemetery with Members of the Estill Springs Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department serving as pallbearers.

12/23/12 — Walter N. Johnsen

Mr. Walter N. Johnsen, age 91, of Tullahoma, passed away Saturday at Harton Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Brooklyn, New York and the son of the late Anton and Magda Skarman Johnsen.

Mr. Johnsen was a WWII Army Veteran and a self employed Contractor.

In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Vida Johnsen, brothers, Raymond and Allen, sisters Agnus and Betty and granddaughters, Debra and Diana.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy, grandson, Donny, daughter in law, Elizabeth and great grandchildren, Allie, Jacob and Peyton.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Johnsen will be interred in the National Cemetery in Chattanooga.

12/29/12 —- John Charles Freeman

John Charles Freeman, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at his residence at the age of 55.

During his life, he worked as a furniture refinisher for his business, Freeman’s Furniture Refinisher and had worked in the furniture refinishing business since he was twelve years old.

Mr. Freeman was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and he was a beloved father, grandfather, and a respected businessman in the community.

Mr. Freeman is preceded in death his father, Jessie Freeman.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Freeman; three daughters, Michelle Cataldo and her husband Sam, Misty Freeman, and Jennifer Dykes and her husband MicaJon all of Tullahoma; six brothers, David, Tommy, and Steven Freeman, Chuckie, Michael and Eddie Reeves; four sisters, Beverly Harris, Linda Abbott, Missy Reeves, and Tina Reeves; his mother, Bernice Freeman; and three grandchildren, JuliAnna Dykes, Levi Dykes, and BrenLeigh Dykes.

Visitation for Mr. Freeman will be held on Friday, December 28th, 2012 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:30-8:30pm.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29th, 2012 at 1:00pm at the First Church of the Nazarene 201 South Polk Street, Tullahoma, TN.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

12/27/12 — James Carroll Jarrell

Graveside services for Mr. James Carroll Jarrell, 90, of Manchester will be held, Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 1:30 PM at Shady Grove Cemetery with Rev. Bob Case officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 11 AM – 1 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel. 

Mr. Jarrell passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Jarrell, a native of Shady Grove, TN., was born May 20, 1922, the son of the late Robert Thomas and Nora Worley Jarrell. 

He served in the U. S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945 as a Seaman First Class.  He retired from AEDC where he worked as a photographer.  Mr. Jarrell was a member of Forest Mill United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and hunting with his Beagles.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Jarrell was preceded in death by four brothers, W. C., Phillip Wayne, Willard and Robert T. Jarrell; and two sisters, Lila St. John and Catherine Kirby.

Mr. Jarrell is survived by one son, Robert Marvin Jarrell of Nashville; one sister, Mozelle Spain of Nashville; one sister-in-law, Mary Jarrell of Morrison; special friend, Dorothy Bramblett of Manchester and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

12/21/12 — THERESA ROSE GENOVESE MENDEZ-BARBOZA

THERESA ROSE GENOVESE MENDEZ-BARBOZA, age 60, of Elora, Tenn. departed this life on Friday, December 21, 2012 suddenly at her residence.

She was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Frank and Vonnie Genovese.

She was a Christian.  Mrs. Mendez-Barboza had been disabled for several years.  Her hobbies included arts and crafts, tending to her house plants and was in the process of starting a business making clothes for pets.  She was a loving and caring person to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Jewell Ann Stider.

She is survived by her husband, Juan Mendez-Barboza, daughter, Kristie (Joe) Covington of Estill Springs, Tenn., son, Eric Woodiwiss of Madison, Ala. mother, Vonnie (Howard) Shafer of Inverness Fla., grandchildren; Issac and Mateo Aguayo, brothers; Joe Genovese of Minnesota, Ted Genovese of Indiana and John Shafer of Tampa, Fla.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

12/27/12 — James Monroe Jefferson

Mr. James Monroe Jefferson, age 85, of Tullahoma, passed away Sunday at Life Care Center.

He was a native of Bunkie, LA and the son of the late James and Ethel Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson was a member of First Baptist Church in Tullahoma, United States Navy Veteran serving in WWII and a retired Truck Driver.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Ruth Jefferson, two children, James M. Jefferson and his wife Sandy, Twila Marie Stroop and her husband Terry, grandchildren, Joe and his wife Angel, Craig and his wife Beth, Jody and his wife Jody, Richie and his wife Amanda, great grandchildren, Kaleb, Mary Kathryn, Owen, Brock, Savannah, Nolen, Lexi, Karson, Hudson, Alex and McKinley.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, from 10:00AM until 12:00PM at the Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Graveside Services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00PM at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

12/24/12 —- Kenneth “Buster” Nowlin

Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth “Buster” Nowlin, age 81, of Manchester will be conducted Monday, December 24, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Rev. Beth Ezell officiating. 

Interment will follow at New Reddens Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. 

Mr. Nowlin passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his residence.

He was born March 3, 1931 in Bedford County, Tennessee one of ten children  to the late John Lanier Nowlin and Goldie Martin Nowlin. 

Mr. Nowlin was a retired road construction worker.  Throughout his life he also enjoyed farming and fishing.  He married Naomi Daniel on July 30, 1953 and the two began their family.  He is the father of three fantastic children and six wonderful grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all. 

 In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, John Nowlin, Jr., Sam Nowlin, Ed Nowlin and Frankie Nowlin.

Mr. Nowlin is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Naomi Daniel Nowlin of Manchester; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Dewaine Nowlin and wife, Patti; son and daughter-in-law, Horace Lanier Nowlin and wife, Cindy; and daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Naomi Nowlin Johnson and husband, Neal; six grandchildren, Krista Hale and husband, Matt; Kelsey Nowlin; Tyler Nowlin; Cody Nowlin; Haley Johnson and Sara Johnson.  Also surviving are three sisters, Mammie Crosslin; Pauline Holden and husband, Ned; Judy Carter and husband, Lynn; Elizabeth Shelton; and a brother,  Dave Nowlin and wife, Judy and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

12/23/12 — Loretta Jacobs

Loretta Jacobs of Manchester, Tennessee passed away on December 16, 2012 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.  She was 29.

Ms. Jacobs attended Coffee County Central High School.  She enjoyed listening to music and singing.

Ms. Jacobs is preceded in death by her parents, Rosetta Jacobs and Carey Dale Jacobs.

She is survived by her daughters, Thelma Norris and Alison Jacobs both of Manchester; sisters, Felicia Jacobs of Manchester, Tonya Jacobs of Shady Grove; brothers, Darren (Candice) Jacobs of Shady Grove, Joshua and Danny Jacobs both of Manchester; several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phillip Cleek officiating.

Interment will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 4-8 P.M. at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel.

12/29/12 — Virginia Sexton Jarratt

Virginia Sexton Jarratt, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Friday, December 21st, 2012 at Manchester Health Care Center at the age of 85.

Mrs. Jarratt was born in Huntsville, TN to the late Kaywood and Mary Ann Sexton.

She formerly worked as a secretary for the United States Air Force and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tullahoma. Mrs. Jarratt was also a member and former president of the Women’s Club in Tullahoma and she played golf and bridge.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, John Jarratt; one grandson, Jason Jarratt and many brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Jarratt is survived by her husband Aubrey Jarratt of Tullahoma; one son, Steve Jarratt of Tullahoma; one grandson, Joe Jarratt of Knoxville, TN; one sister, Sue Morris of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 29th, 2012 from 2:00-4:00pm with the memorial service at 4:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A. Richard Smith officiating.

12/31/12 — Barbara Ann Webb

Memorial services for Mrs. Barbara Ann  Webb, age 72, of Estill Springs, will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday,  December 31, 2012 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel. 

Visitation with the family will be from  11:00 AM until time of service on Monday. 

Mrs. Webb passed away on Wednesday, December 19 at Vanderbilt University  Medical Center in Nashville.

Mrs. Webb was born in Ashville, NC, the  daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth Bentley Martin. 

She was a Certified Radiology Technician  at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester and was a member of the  American Registry of Radiology Technicians and the Gold Wing Club.  She enjoyed gardening, motorcycles,  camping, and visiting casinos.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Webb  was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Edward Webb. 

She is survived by two sons, Greg Webb  of Richmond, VA and Randy (Susan) Webb of Beech Grove; one daughter, Tammie  Orzino of Mulberry, TN; one sister, Judy Matheson of Las Vegas, NV; and four  grandchildren, Dustin Webb, Mason Orzino, Dakota Orzino, and Noel  Webb.
