Jack Dunlap Dickson, JR.

DICKSON, Jack Dunlap, Jr., Lt. Col. (Ret.), U.S. Army, passed away in Tullahoma, Tennessee, on July 15, 2022. He was born in Chattanooga, the son of the late Jack D. Dickson, Sr. and Mary Jeanette Levi in 1945. Jack graduated from Tullahoma Senior High School in 1963 and MTSU in 1967. He later served in Vietnam as a Captain with D Troop, 3/4th Cavalry, 25th Infantry Division as a helicopter pilot, where he earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Bronze Stars, and 10 Air Medals, with combat “V” for valor devices. He finished his military career as a Lieutenant Colonel in the 423rd Medical Detachment (Air Ambulance), 98th Division, U.S. Army Reserve in Syracuse, NY. Jack married Gail Donaldson in 1971, in Watertown, NY. Jack retired from Dresser- Rand in Painted Post, NY in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Gail, three children, Jeanette D. Valdez, Patrick Beecher and Roslyn Beecher, and four granddaughters: Elizabeth Cass, Katherine Salembier, Anna Beecher, and Grace Salembier. He is also survived by his paternal aunt, Ann O’Connell and his brother, Scott Dickson and Scott’s wife, Patty and their children: Mikayla, Travis, and Lindsey. 

Jack was a lifetime aviation enthusiast, #hueyflyer. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, geocaching and boating on the Tim’s Ford with his grandchildren. In retirement, he served as the Range Safety Officer at the Highland Rim Shooter’s Club. 

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11 AM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home. A burial at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga will be scheduled at a later date. The family will receive friends at Daves-Culbertson this Saturday from 10 AM until the service time.

Carolyn M. Davis

Carolyn M. Davis, passed this life on July 14, 2022, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, at the age of 76. A graveside service is scheduled for July 18, 2022 at 10 AM at Prospect Cemetery in Fayetteville, TN.

Carolyn was the daughter of the late Johnny Dollar and Catherine Ables Dollar.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Davis; sisters, Martha Bogle, Mary Scott and Dean Bell; grandson, Chase Lee Davis and great-grandson, Nicholas Mason.

She is survived by her son, Tony Lee Davis; brother, Jerry (Pam) Dollar; granddaughter, Starr Mason and great-grandson Justic Jackson.

Jack Bently Jackson

Jack Bently Jackson of Manchester passed this life at the age of 89. Funeral Services are scheduled for Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 2 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 1 PM until the service time.

Mr. Jackson, a native of Logan County, WV, was the son of the late Marion and Letha Jane Phillips Jackson.  He was retired from the U S Air Force and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Free Mason. Mr. Jackson enjoyed studying the global economy. He was a devout Christian and enjoyed feeding and watching the hummingbirds in his yard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Richard Jackson and siblings, Elee Roy, Lola Mae, Gaynell, Patricia, Trudy and Tiuis.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his brother, Cletis; sisters, Mildred, Rosetta, Audry and Kathy and two grandchildren, Amanda Jackson and Richard A Jackson (Rheagan).

Lonnie Fleet Smith Jr.

Lonnie Fleet Smith, Jr., age 82, passed from this life on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at his home with his family by his side.

Lonnie was born in Maury Co., TN, on January 24,1940 to his late parents, Lonnie Fleet Smith Sr. and Narvie Potts. Lonnie married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Turner on August 5, 1961, and later they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Lonnie was always active in a variety of sports beginning in high school resulting in all-state football and basketball honors which led to his recruitment and full scholarship to play football and basketball for the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. Lonnie worked as an engineer for Sverdurp Technologies at Arnold’s Engineering and Develop Center in Tullahoma, TN and retired after a 40-year career primarily involved in turbine engine testing and analysis.

Lonnie and his wife, Carolyn, have been active members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 48 years. In the Church, Lonnie served in many capacities including bishop, counselor in stake presidency, full time missionary with his wife in the Nauvoo Illinois Temple, and sealer in the Nashville Temple.

Some of Lonnie’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, genealogy, traveling, bicycling, and scouting. Some of his favorite places to visit included Daytona Beach, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Alaska.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Smith.

Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Smith; sons, William Scott Smith (Brenda) and Lonnie Fleet Smith III (Sandy); daughter, Carol Lynne Tritapoe (Jeff); sisters, Shirley Hooper (Frank) and Barbara Mauss (Gene); grandchildren, Willie, Grace, Alexis, Olivia, Logan, Dallin, Gavin, Jessica, Fleet IV, and Millie; and 23 great grandchildren with the 24th under construction.

Visitation with the family will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, TN. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11:00am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tullahoma, TN, with Bishop Jared Bryan officiating. Graveside services and burial will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm at Memory Gardens, 3288 Highway 100, Centerville, TN, 37033.

Laquetta Shirae Bratcher

Mrs. Laquetta Shirae Bratcher, age 67 years, 7 months, and 11 days, was born on November 28, 1954, to the late Herbert Ray and Shirley Jean Walker Stewart in Vero Beach, FL. She enjoyed gardening and going to the beach with her family before her declining health. Mrs. Shirae greatly loved watching her grandchildren at their sporting events and taking care of them and so many extended family members’ children. Family members say she “loved big”, and “everyone is family”.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shirae is preceded in death by her brother, Michael Libby and her sister, Tanya Swinson. She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Kettrell Bratcher; children, Shonta Gilley and her husband, Robert, Amber Haley and her husband, Richard, and Ricky Bratcher; grandchildren, Robbie, Sydney, and Alexa Gilley, Jaden, and Casen Conlee, Addalen Haley, and Dallin and Skyler Bratcher; brother, Ray Butch Stewart, and sister, Star Little; her dog, “Tucker”; several extended family members and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 2 PM in the Coffee County Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Lewis Johnson officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will begin at 12 Noon until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Shirae passed away at her home on Saturday, July 9.

Viva G. Jernigan

Viva G. Jernigan, age 89, of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away in the comfort of her home, on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

Born in Bradyville, Tennessee, on June 1, 1933, to the late Doxie and Lilly McCurry, Viva devoted her life to being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Viva always cared for others before herself and her family was most important in her life.  An “Air Force Wife and Mom”, while Mr. Jernigan was serving  a combined thirty one years in the Air Force and National Guard, and her three children were young, she was able to raise her children while living in different locations, such as France, California, Georgia, Mississippi, and Indiana. She was a fifty-seven-year member of Westwood Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church. Viva enjoyed gardening, especially growing her beautiful roses, reading daily devotionals, faithfully watching “The Price is Right” and spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed bus tours. Viva was an avid Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Volunteer Fan and loved watching the games. Viva will surely be missed by her loving friends and family.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Ray M. Jernigan; one son, Terry Jernigan; two brothers, Grady “Wayne” McCurry and Eddie Winston McCurry; and two sisters, Wilma Rae McCurry (Infant) and Cleta Faye Clark.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy (Nancy) Jernigan and Danny (Pam) Jernigan; daughter in law, Debbie Jernigan; brother in law, Douglas “Wayne” Jernigan; nine grandchildren, Scott (Stephanie) Jernigan, Matt (Amanda) Jernigan, Charlie (Jamie) Jernigan, Micheal (Sonja) Jernigan, Steven (Lauren) Jernigan, Jason (Diane) Bolin, Benjie Smith, Jon Smith and Jennifer Jernigan; and twenty seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Coffee County Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 4-8PM.

Funeral services will be held, at the funeral home, on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 10AM, with Pastor Kenny McNatt officiating.

Interment to immediately follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Anna “Wang” Dorean Moore

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna “Wang” Dorean Moore, age 85 of Manchester, will be conducted at 12:00PM on Friday, July 15, 2022, at Manchester Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Ragsdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the funeral home. Mrs. Moore passed from this life on Friday, July 8, 2022, at Manchester Health Care in Manchester, TN.

Anna was born in Manchester on December 30, 1936, the daughter of the late Clayton and Lily Mae Meadows. She was a jokester that loved watching sports, especially Braves Baseball and the UT Vols. Anna also enjoyed playing card games like Rook, Skip O, Phase 10, and Solitaire. Anna was a Godly woman and attend St. Paul’s Methodist Church. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her, and she was a wonderful and devoted mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Anna is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Moore; son, Bobby Meeks; five brothers, Frankie Meadows, Pete Meadows, Leon Meadows, Lloyd Meadows and Freeman Meadows. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Lowry (Michael); grandchildren, Shane Meeks, Amanda Meeks, and Derek Meeks; eight great-grandchildren, Austin Lowry, Madison Lowry, Hailie Wilkerson, Trey Meeks, Khane Meeks, Lhane Meeks, James Meeks, and Jesse Stewart; dear friend, Charles Sadler; nephew, Buck Meadows; nieces, Judy, Beverly, Kay, Lisa, and Kim; beloved dogs, Copper and Bella.

Virginia Anne Matthews

Virginia Anne Matthews, of Canton, GA, passed this life on Friday, July 8th, 2022 at her home at the age of 84. Mrs. Matthews was born in Kirkwood, Missouri to the late Michael David Burke and Harriat Twiford Burke. She was a former teacher at Saint Paul’s Catholic School, and was a proud mother to her six children. Mrs. Matthews also enjoyed working at Miss Mary Bobo’s Restaurant in Lynchburg, as well as playing bridge and bunco. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Keith “R.K” Matthews; two brothers, Bill Burke and Father Jack Burke; and one son-in-law, Shawn Doherty. Mrs. Matthews is survived by her six children, Kathy (Rick) Worland, Mike Matthews, Margie Matthews, Beth Doherty, Steve (Carol) Matthews, and Robert Matthews; one brother, Mike (Mary) Burke; twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Visitation for Mrs. Matthews will be held on Friday, July 15th, 2022 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 16th, 2022 at 11:00am at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Tullahoma. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Curtis J. Bell

Curtis J. Bell of Tullahoma passed this life on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at his home at the age of 78. Mr. Bell was born in Tullahoma to the late Stokes and Emmer Whipple Bell. During his life Curtis served his country as a member of the United States Navy, and worked as a carpenter. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bell is preceded in death by one son, Carson Bell; two brothers, Dennis and Richard Bell; and one sister, Ida Smith. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beyer Bell; one daughter, Shaney Kennedy (Tim); two sons, Chris Bell (Melody), and Michael Bell (Jennifer); one sister, Linda Anderson (Don); one brother, David Bell (Brenda); one sister-in-law, Ruth Bell; eight grandchildren, Kelsey, Harrison, Ethan, Dalton, Alex, Erin, Brandon, and Carson; and four great-grandchildren, Brentley, Lucy, Blakely, and Taytum. Visitation for Mr. Bell will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 from 1:00-2:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home. George William Shealy

George William Shealy, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 at NHC at the age of 91. Mr. Shealy was born in Summerville, South Carolina to the late Jesse Malcom Shealy and Beulah Shealy. He served his country in the United States Air Force and went on to work as a Maintenance Supervisor for Micro Craft. Mr. Shealy was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Tullahoma, as well as the American Legion Post 43. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Stella Shealy; three sisters, Alma Cumalander, Mildren Turner, and Judy Cumalander; and one brother, Donald Shealy. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Rolman Shealy; one daughter, Melody Gillam and her husband Keith; three sisters, Frances Bower and her husband Bryan, Martha Jo Wicker, and Vivian Cameron; and one grandson, Kyle Gilliam. Visitation for Mr. Shealy will be held on Saturday, July 9th, 2022 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 1:00-3:00pm with the funeral to follow at 3:00pm with Bro. Tim McGehee officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
