6/18/14 —- Geraldine Elrod

Funeral services for Mrs. Geraldine Elrod, age 84 of Manchester, will be conducted Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Billy Robison officiating.

Burial will follow at Fredonia Cemetery in Manchester, Tennessee.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 5:00 until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Elrod passed away Monday, June 16, 2014. 


Geraldine was born November 24, 1929 in Manchester, Tennessee, the daughter of the late William A. Haggard and Mary Della (Farrar) Haggard.

She enjoyed gardening and cooking and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. 


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Owen Elrod; five brothers; and one daughter, Teresa Diane Elrod.


Mrs. Elrod is survived by one son, Buddy Owen Elrod of McMinnville, Tennessee; one daughter, Liz Warlich and husband, Ernie, of Edmonds, Washington; two sisters, Jean Brown of Elkhart, Indiana and Ruth Peek of Manchester, Tennessee; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

6/19/14 —- Johnny Howard Cargile

Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Howard Cargile, age 64, of Lewisburg, WV, formerly of Coffee County, TN, will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Marvin Davenport officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Cargile passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014 in Lewisburg, WV. 

Mr. Cargile was born in Coffee County, TN, the son of the late Johnnie and Evia Freeman Cargile.

He was formerly employed in the construction business. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Johnny enjoyed fishing, hunting, and Nascar, and was of the Baptist faith. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cargile was also preceded in death by a nephew, Phillip Jason Claybourn.

He is survived by one daughter, Gina R. Rich of NJ; one grandchild, Teagan Carroll; one sister, Linda (Phillip) Claybourn of Morrison, TN; one niece, Brenda (Terry) Heilmann of Manchester; and great nieces and nephews, Ryan, Kyler, and Ashley.

6/16/14 —— ANNE MAE SHELTON

ANNE MAE SHELTON, age 88, of Lynchburg, Tenn., Departed this life on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. following an extended illness.

She born in Nashville to the late John and Virginia Wilson Myers.

Ms. Shelton was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Forrest Hill Baptist Church. She prided herself for being one of the original Rosie the Riveter’s during WWII.  She was an avid golfer and past president of the golf association at the McCabe Golf Course in Nashville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-eight years, Jim Shelton, brothers; Malcolm Myers and John B. Myers, sisters; Mary Lou Myers and Virginia Brown.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Shelton of Lynchburg, several nieces and nephews, and a close friend, Penny Miller of Woodbury.

Visitation for Ms. Shelton will be held from 1:00 P.M. on Monday, June 16, 2014, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services until service time at 2:00 with Bro. Randy Jackson, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Marble Plains Cemetery in Winchester.

6/13/14 —- Phillip Dale McGuire

Phillip Dale McGuire, age 64, passed away on June 11, 2014 at his home in Manchester, Tennessee.

He was born in Manchester, Tennessee to his parents, the late Sam McGuire and Evelyn Johnston McGuire and was also preceded in death by his sister, the late Phyllis McGuire.

Phillip is survived by his aunt, Beverly Harrison of Smyrna, TN; cousins, James R. Lowry of Manchester, TN,  Roger (Shirley) Lowry of Manchester, TN and Walter Leroy of Manchester, TN; and a host of friends and loved ones.

A Graveside Service will be conducted on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fredonia Cemetery in Manchester.

6/14/14 —- Dewey Powell

Dewey Powell, age 88 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on June 10, 2014 at the Life Care Center of Tullahoma.

Mr. Powell, a University of Tennessee graduate, was a retired Electrical Engineer with Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC); 60 year member of the IBEW; member of the First United Methodist Church in Manchester and a member of the Woodsmen of the World; past City of Manchester Vice Mayor, Alderman, and City Planning Commission Board member. Mr. Powell was a World War II United States Army Air Corps veteran and also a Contractor and land developer who enjoyed UT sports, gardening, his Koi fish.

He was born in Peter’s Landing, TN to his parents, the late Robert Powell and Clara Myrtle Knight Powell. He was also preceded in death by his wife Opal H. Powell who recently passed away in 2014 and a sister, Patricia Powell.

He is survived by his son, Robert T. Powell and his wife Shellia of Manchester, TN; daughter, Donna P. Willis and her husband Steve of Manchester, TN; sister, Jeanne M. Powell of Manchester, TN; two brothers, John T. Powell (Kathy) of Murfreesboro, TN and Franklin D. Powell (Rose) of Orange Park, FL;  four grandchildren, Alecia Willis of Raleigh, NC, Tyson Powell of Murfreesboro, TN, Sonya Sherrill (Todd) of Manchester, TN and Joshua C. Powell (Alison) of Manchester, TN; three great-grandchildren, Haley Karen Sherrill, Kyra Sherrill and Henry Powell; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 11:00 a.m.  –  1:00 p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester.

A Graveside Service will follow on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Randall  T. Brown officiating.

6/14/14 —- Willie Mae Bates

Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Mae Bates, age 95, of Trufant, Michigan,  formerly of Manchester, will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel. 

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. 

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. 

Mrs. Bates passed away Monday at her daughter’s home in Trufant, Michigan.

 
Mrs. Bates was born in Huntsville, AL, the daughter of the late Ollie Patton and Sarah Caroline Boyett.  She married Sam Bates in Huntsville, AL and moved to Tennessee until 2002, when she moved to Belleville, MI. 

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and gardening and was a member of the Church of Christ in New Boston.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bates was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Sam Bates, who passed away in 2003, six brothers and sisters, one grandson and one granddaughter. 

She was a loving mother of eight children, Hazel (Billy Frank) Henley, Betty (Joseph) McMahan, Carl (Gloria) Bates, Doris Ciatto, Linda (Larry) Burgess, Sondra (Gerald) Reed, Phillip (Paulette) Bates, and Karen (Mark) Kasprzky; fond grandmother of 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 8 great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Henley.

6/13/14 —- Wagoner Huey Bare, Jr.

Funeral services for Mr. Wagoner Huey Bare, Jr., age 84, of Hillsboro, TN, will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow at Rutledge Hill Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bare passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Bare was born in Burnwell, WV, the son of the late Wagoner H. and Anna Mae Hughes Bare.

He served his country as a TSgt in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and retired in 1967 with twenty years of service. He was also employed at Sain Construction Company and Allied Security. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Mr. Bare is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jessie Long Bare of Hillsboro; four sons, Wagoner H. “Ted” (Rita K.) Bare of Hillsboro, James David (Shari) Bare of Wildwood, FL, Danny Ray (Shane) Bare of Beechgrove, and Phillip Matthew (Misty Valentine) Bare of Manchester; one daughter, Teresa Lynn (Stephen) Boyett of Tullahoma; one brother, Lanny Ross Bare of Charleston, WV; two sisters, Patsy Goff of Cape Coral, FL and Betsy Folden of Blacksburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Christopher Allen Boyett, Aaron Boyett, Josh Bare, Tosha Bare, David Bare, Jr., Danny Bare, Jr., Ashley Bare and McKenzie Bare; and 13 great grandchildren.

5/30/14 —– David Ray Posten

Private family services will be held for Mr. David Ray Posten, age 66 of Beechgrove. 

Mr. Posten passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family.

 
David was born May 9, 1948 in Alabama.

In 1967 David joined the United States Navy and served his country until his discharge in July of 1971.   During his service, David was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Meritorious Unit  Commendation Ribbon.

 
Mr. Posten is survived by his loving wife Kathleen I. Posten; one daughter, Misty Bennett; one sister, Brenda Craig
of Blue Grass, Iowa; three sons, Terry Posten, Dave Posten, and Ber Wilford, all of Davenport, Iowa; and grandchildren.

6/8/14 —– Dr. Paul Rupert Widick

Dr. Paul Rupert Widick, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, June 8th, 2014 at NHC Healthcare in Tullahoma at the age of 80.

Dr. Widick was born in Ury, West Virginia to the late Joe and Rebecca Short Widick.

He served our county in the United States Air Force during both Korea and the Vietnam Era. He went on to become a Professor at West Chester University and later a Geology, Physics and Chemistry Professor at MTSU.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Widick is preceded in death by his wife of 18 years, Billie Jean Walker-Widick; one brother, Bobie Widick; and three sisters, Irene Walker, Dorothy Centerbery, and June Payne.

He is survived by one son, Andy Widick and his wife Mary of Wilmington, Deleware; one daughter, Nancy Wolfstayer of West Chester, Pennsylvania; one sister, Betty Leslie of Alameda, California; and one grandchild, Kinzua Wolfstayer of West Chester, Pennsylvania.

No services are currently planned at this time.

6/11/14 —- Charlie Martin Tinsley

Charlie Martin Tinsley, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, June 8th, 2014 at his residence at the age of 77.

Mr. Tinsley was born in Montgomery County, Tennessee to the late Clarence Ezra and Evie Mae Groves Tinsley.

During his life he worked in the construction and paving industry with Tinsley Bro. Paving and was a member of Forest Mill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tinsley is preceded in death by two sisters, Hattie May Sessler, and Elaine Adams.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carole Tinsley of Tullahoma; two sons, Christopher Scott Tinsley of Estill Springs, and Jeffery Brian Tinsley and his wife Carrie of Conway, Arkansas; two daughters, Sandra Lynn Hatfield and her husband Ed of Estill Springs and Jeannie Arlene Johnson of Tullahoma; three brothers, Eddie Tinsley and his wife Anita of Estill Springs, Freddie Tinsley of Tullahoma, and Felix Tinsley and his wife Birdie Mae of Elkhart, Indiana; two sisters, Susie Tinsley of Tullahoma, and Sarah Welker and her husband King of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee; and four grandchildren, Tyler Tinsley, Megan Brandon, Sarah Tate, and Sawyer Tinsley.

Visitation for Mr. Tinsley will be held on Tuesday, June 10th, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Kilgore Funeral Home.
