8/8/14 —- Linda Sue Pearce Eslick Suiter

Mrs. Linda Sue Pearce Eslick Suiter, age 68 of Manchester, passed away Friday, August 8 at the Manchester Health Care Center.

Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.

A native of Okmulgee, OK, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Eula Pearce.

She had worked as a serger for Tennessee Apparel in Tullahoma and had driven a Head Start bus in Lynchburg. She enjoyed crocheting, playing the piano and singing and spending time with grandchildren and great children.

In addition to her parent, she was preceded in death by her first husband, H R “Bubba” Eslick III and her second husband, George C. Suiter.

Mrs. Suiter is survived by one son, Jesse Raymond Eslick and his fiancé, Bonnie McCormick of Altamont; two daughters, Mary Grace Eslick of Gallatin and Margy Beaty and her husband, Ed of Manchester; two step-sons, Carl Suiter and his wife, Debbie of Shelbyville and Alex Suiter and his wife, Stephanie of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Joshua Eslick, Renee Poe, Derek Northcutt and Mia Eslick and three great grandchildren, Kiivon, Alan and Jaqualynn.

8/9/14 —– NINA RUTH HOCKETT ALFORD

Funeral services for Mrs. Nina Ruth Hockett Alford, age 81, of Beechgrove, TN will be conducted Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Steve Anderson officiating.
Interment will follow at Wilson Chapel/ Hoo Doo Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted Friday, August 8, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Alford passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in Nashville, TN. 

She was born July 7, 1933 in Bedford County, Tennessee the eldest of six children born to the late Burrell Hockett and Mary Katherine Gibson Hockett. “Granny” as she was affectionately known to all who knew her, lived life for her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who was in constant motion caring for her loved ones. She always enjoyed cooking up some of her famous dishes, such as her meatloaf, pineapple upside down cake and chocolate pies. One of her favorite pastimes was nurturing her flower garden as well as a large vegetable garden from which she canned all kinds of goodies. She was a longtime, dedicated member of Noah’s Fork Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Alford is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Lee Alford in 1997; a son, Ronald Keith “Worm” Alford; and four brothers, Lindell Hockett, Dorris Hockett, Morris Hockett and Norris Hockett. 

Survivors include three children, Danny Lee Alford (Kathy) of Beechgrove, TN; Michael Alford (Cathy) of Woodbury, TN and Jessie Ruth Sloan (Marty) of Murfreesboro, TN; 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson and several step-grandchildren; a sister, Berlene West of Bell Buckle, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

8/10/14 —- Steve Lewis

Steve Lewis, of Normandy, passed this life on Thursday, August 7th, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville at the age of 57.

Mr. Lewis was born in Franklin County, Tennessee to the late Phillip Sloan and Alma Suns Lewis.

Mr. Lewis worked as an Auditor with O’Reilly Auto Parts before retiring and was a member of Break Free Worship Center in Normandy. He was a Alderman in Normandy, and also worked for 30 years with the Normandy Fire Department where he obtained the position as Assistant Chief.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by four siblings, Danny “Jughead” Lewis, Billy Lewis, Sylvia Foster, and Roger Lewis.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shelia Lewis of Normandy; three sons, Brad Lewis and his wife Donna of Shelbyville, Chad Conn and his wife Devin of Wartrace, and Kevin Champion of Hillsboro; two brothers, Mike Lewis and his wife Kellye of Huntland, and Ronnie Lewis and his wife Eva of Decherd; mother-in-law, Anna Pant; and eight grandchildren, Bailey, Lexiss, and Spencer Lewis, Kevin and Grace Conn, and Dillon, Chase, and Kambrea Champion.

Visitation for Mr. Lewis will be held on Saturday, August 9th, 2014 from 5:00-8:00pm.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 10th, 2014 at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Joe Calvert, Bro. Chad Conn, and Bro. Bobby Watkins officiating.

Burial will follow at New Center Grove Cemetery in Winchester.

Pallbearers will be David Steele, Kevin Clay, Bob Looney, Shannon Amos, Mike Rainey, and Jared Turner.

8/10/14 —- BERTHA E. THRONEBERRY

BERTHA E. THRONEBERRY, age 96, of Tullahoma, Tenn., formerly of Franklin County, departed this life on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Life Care Center of Tullahoma following a brief illness.

She was born in the Providence Community in Decherd to the late John William Smith and Melinda Long Smith.

Ms. Throneberry was a life time member of the Providence United Methodist Church and their oldest member. She was a seamstress, a member of the Tullahoma Chapter #269 Order of the Eastern Star and after Tullahoma merged with Winchester Chapter #196 Order of the Eastern Star she has been a member of the Winchester Chapter as well. Her hobbies included crocheting dolls, and she loved doing all kinds of crafts. Her talent was quilting, she made hundreds of quilts during her lifetime.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, David Ray Throneberry, brothers; L.G., Garner, Sam, Roy, Jr. and Homer Smith, sisters; Aubry Buckner and Novella Bailey.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Ms. Throneberry will be held from 5:00-9:00 P.M. Saturday evening, August 9, in the chapel of Grant Funeral Services.

Ms. Throneberry will lie in state at the Providence United Methodist Church from 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 10, until service time at 3:00. Rev. J.C. Stewart, Bro. Eugene Green and Bro. Jeremy Taylor will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

8/914 —- Virginia E. Faris

Virginia E. Faris, age 81 of Tullahoma, passed away Tuesday morning August 5, 2014 at her home.

A native of Winchester, she spent her life working as a professional seamstress, designing wedding gowns, formals and other designer garments. In her later years she worked at First Christian Church in Tullahoma in the daycare and nursery. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Faris is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Crawford Faris; grandson, Mark William Janey; mother, Jonnie Grizzard Farris and father, Willard Elliott, Sr.; brothers, Willard Elliott, Jr., David Elliott and Howard “Knocker” Elliott; sister in-law and brother-in-law, Agnes Faris Gallagher and Patrick Gallagher.

She is survived by her daughter, Susie (Fonz) Perry of Tullahoma; grandsons, Bruce Patrick Janey and J. Matthew Janey, both of Estill Springs; sisters, Jean Floyd of Hillsboro and Patricia Jackson of Sherwood.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday August 9, 2014 from the Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home with the Rev. Susan Rock officiating.

John Glen Stark, age 52 of Bradyville, Tennessee, passed away on August 5, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Donald L. Stark and Minnie L. Leggett Stark.

He is survived by his sister, Brenda K. Hicks and her husband Eugene of Bradyville, TN; two brothers, Reverend Tony L. Stark and his wife Kathy of Tampa, FL and Gary W. Stark and wife Deenie of Harvest, AL; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday evening, August 7, 2014 from 6:00 p.m.  –  7:30 p.m. at the Central Funeral Home in Manchester.

The Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday afternoon, August 8, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Central Funeral Home with Reverend Tony L. Stark and Gary W. Stark officiating.

Virginia Ann Qualls Todaro, age 73 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Ann was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved her family and friends very much, and she enjoyed books and spending time with people.

Ann was preceded in death by her dear husband of 36 years, Salvatore Elboro “Sam” Todaro; parents, Ulice Carver Qualls and Nannie May Carr Qualls and her brother, Millard Qualls.

“Granny ” Ann is survived by her daughter, Regina Todaro of St. Petersburg, FL; son, Paul Todaro of Greeneville, TN; granddaughters Ciara Todaro Cooper of Manchester, TN who was like a daughter to her, Cassidy Power of St. Petersburg, FL and Holly Todaro of Greeneville, TN; her new sweet great-granddaughter, Skyleigh Briann Todaro Cooper of Manchester, TN; two sisters, Lois Qualls Arnold of Warren, OH and Katherine Qualls Ewell of Manchester, TN; three brothers, Gentry Qualls of New Castle, IN, Henry Qualls of Scottsdale, AZ and Earl Qualls of Columbia, TN; several nieces, nephews, a special cousin, Judy Randall; and a host of friends.

Rose Catherine Beavers of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, August 3rd, 2014 at her residence at the age of 87.

Mrs. Beavers was born in Plainfield, New Jersey to the late Joseph and Catherine Rose Wenk Kunkel.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Tullahoma, and loved animals, especially dogs. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Noble Beavers; and one son, John Beavers.

Mrs. Beavers is survived by two daughters, Catherine Rose Beavers of Manchester, and Shirley Williams and her husband Carl Holloway of Kunkletown, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, Joe Beavers of Easton, Pennsylvania, Chuck Felmly and his wife Laura of Northampton, Pennsylvania, James Felmly and his wife Ania of Hamilton, New Jersey, Melanie Ketcherside of Tullahoma, Micah Ketcherside and his wife Sara of Lynchburg, Melissa Ketcherside of Tullahoma, P.J. Ardehani of Manchester, and Heidi Beavers of Winchester; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Mrs. Beaver’s will be held on Friday, August 8th, 2014 from 11:00 am-12:00 pm at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Tullahoma with a memorial service to immediately follow at 12:00 pm with Father Stephen Klasek officiating.

Funeral services for Mrs. Melrose H. Holder, age 95, of Pelham, TN, will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. De Hennessee and Miriam Seyler officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Holder passed away Sunday, August 3 at True Care Living Center in Palestine, TX. 

Mrs. Holder was born in Pelham, TN, the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Bessie Meeks Hamby.

Melrose graduated from Grundy County High School and attended MTSU for 2 years, followed by teaching for a few years. She was a member of the Future Homemakers of America and the Pelham United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Melrose lived in Tullahoma, TN until 1982, when she moved in with her sister, Jewell Goodman, and together, they operated Pelham Food Market. She also helped her sister, Jewell, run the farm after her brother-in-law, Lude Goodman passed away. She loved children and growing her favorite roses. 

In addition to her parents, Melrose was also preceded in death by her husband, H.E. “Jug” Holder, whom she married in 1951; one brother, Hagan Hamby; and two sisters, Nana Lou Hamby Meeks and Jewell Hamby Goodman.

She is survived by one son, Edward Donovan (Patricia) Holder of Murfreesboro, TN; one daughter, Rosalyn (Dr. Charles) Bennett of Palestine, TX; one grandchild, Alicia (Jim) Halbert; two great grandchildren, Reid and Kathryn Halbert; niece, Joy Meeks (Fred) Yarbro; nephew, Grant Meeks; and great niece, Brittany Yarbo.
