1/29/15 — Marilyn Lee Sims

Marilyn-Sims-1422397822Marilyn Lee Sims, age 69 of Manchester, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2 PM at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Welker Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Thursday from 11 AM until service time.

A native of Zanesville, OH, she was the daughter of the late Harold Kemp and the late Doris Jones Walker. Mrs. Sims was a retired caregiver who enjoyed surfing the Internet and playing Facebook games. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and playing with her dogs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Patty Sue Kemp and one great grandchild, J’Dyn Mikal Sims.

Mrs. Sims is survived by two sons, Daniel Michael Sims and his wife, Jackie and Michael David Sims and his wife, Shelly, both of Manchester; three daughters, Tammy Joe Tucker and her husband, Michael, Suzi Lee Sims and her fiancé, Richard Brown and Michelle Lynn Coffelt and her husband, James, all of Manchester; two brothers, Harold and Kevin Kemp of Ohio; four sisters, Margie Grimes and her husband, Carl and Shelly, Shawna and Shandy Kemp, all of Ohio; nine grandchildren, Jeremy, James Lee, Jennifer, Jessica, Joshua, Jacob, Justin, Megan and Chloe; twelve great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Tommy-Fairchild-1422383947Tommy Lerue Fairchild, age 63 of Estill Springs passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 28 at 11 AM at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, January 28 from 9 AM until service time. Burial will follow on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 1:30 PM at Highland Cemetery, Hattiesburg, MS.
A native of Forrest County, MS, he was the son of the late Halbert Lerue and Marie Scruggs Fairchild. Mr. Fairchild was a retired teacher from the Tullahoma City School System. He was an avid Waterfowl hunter and member of the Middle TN Amateur Retrievers Club.
Mr. Fairchild is survived by one son, Cabot Fairchild of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Jeanna Lofton of Hattiesburg, MS; three nephews and former wife, Gloria Fairchild of Sunnyvale, California.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to the Vanderbilt Diabetes Center or the Birddog Foundation.

1/30/15 — Barbara Sue Allen Kinslow

kinslowMemorial services for Mrs. Barbara Sue Allen Kinslow, age 78 of Manchester will be conducted Friday, January 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Alan Adams officiating. Inurnment will follow at 3:00 PM at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, 800 North Jackson Street, Cookeville, TN. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again Friday prior to services from 10:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM.
Mrs. Kinslow passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015 at her residence in Manchester.

She was born December 13, 1936 in Jackson County, TN the daughter of the late Omer L. Allen and Polly Vesta Hawkins Allen. Barbara grew up in neighboring Putnam County, where she eventually met and married the love of her life, Max Kinslow in 1956. The two moved to Manchester, where Dr. Kinslow was employed as an engineer with AEDC and began their family.
Barbara was a loving, devoted homemaker who enjoyed caring for her three children. Barbara lived her life to exemplify the love of God. She did this in every aspect of her life.
During the 1990’s, she owned and operated Barbara’s Books in Manchester for several years. She always enjoyed visiting with her customers. Barbara also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, traveling and working in her yard. She was also active in her church, Main Street Church of Christ . She will forever be missed by family and friends alike.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Max Kinslow, February 1, 1981 and a son, Stanley Max Kinslow, August 17, 2009 and one sister, Rilda Jamieson.

Survivors include her loving daughters, Kathy S. Springer and husband, Ken of Florence, AL; and Sandra L. Foster and husband, Stephen of Wetumpka, AL; nine grandchildren, Carrie Lynne(Graham) Cook, Kara (Travis) Webster, Chase (Charity) Springer, Katey Kinslow (Chad) Mackie, Shelly Springer, Stephanie (Darren) Curtis, Andrew (Sarah) Foster, Kristen (Justin) Connolly and John Kinslow; four great-grandchildren, Karleigh Webster, Alexis Curtis, Kenley Springer, and Kade Springer. Also surviving are her siblings, Polly Weston of Woodland Hills, CA; Omer Clayron Allen and wife, Jackie of Antioch, TN; Judy Rash and husband, Chuck of Glen Allen, VA; and Oneda Edmundson and husband, Ray of Nashville, TN and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Bro. David Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial
Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Friday, January 30 from 11 AM
until service time. A native of Watauga, TN., Mrs. Lawson was the daughter
of the late Julius Casper and Pernie Ethel Vaught Norman.  After
retirement, she and her husband, Howard “Glenn” Lawson relocated to his
hometown of Tullahoma where they lived for the past twenty eight years.
Mrs. Lawson was a member of the First Christian Church in Johnson City, TN.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by one
sister, Mary Carolyn Holden.  She is survived by her loving husband, Howard
“Glenn” Lawson of Tullahoma; one son, Mark E. Lawson of Estill Springs and
one brother, Charles Brown Norman Sr. and his wife, Marjorie of Watauga.

Flower 12Mrs. Alice Bernice Spry, age 95 of Manchester, Tennessee passed from this life on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Mrs. Spry was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Glen Oliver Spry, parents, Benjamin and Nellie Hughes, two sisters, and five brothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Spry Shemwell and husband Jim of Manchester, Tennessee, Louise Spry Hasty of Austin, Texas, one son Richard Wayne Spry and wife Kathryn of Nolensville, Tennessee seven grandchildren, Benjamin Shemwell and wife Kandy of Manchester, Tennessee, Michael Shemwell and wife Jenna of Wilmington, North Carolina, Susan Shemwell Randall and husband Travis of New Market, Tennessee, Adam Spry and wife Brandy of Charlotte, North Carolina, Alyson Spry Huff and husband Jay of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Richard Hasty and wife Annabel of Palatine, Illinois, Heather Hasty Yarbrough and husband Todd of Taylorsville, Utah, and nine great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bernice Spry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manchester, Tennessee. Mrs. Spry was a wonderful cook and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a loving mother and grandmother, her faith and her family was her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Memorial Services for Mrs. Bernice Spry will be conducted on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Reverend Mark Barron and Reverend Randy Brown officiating. Visitation with the Spry family will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel, Manchester, Tennessee.

flower 17George Michael “Mike” Thomas, age 70 of Wartrace, Tennessee, passed away on January 25, 2015 at the Skyline Medical Center in Nashville,Tennessee. Mr. Thomas was the creator and owner of  T & T Steel Erectors. Mike enjoyed hunting and  fishing and was also a Nascar and Tennessee Walking Horse enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his children, Tammy Gail Thomas and Randy Glen Thomas; parents, Jim Thomas and Katie M. Gregory Thomas; two brothers, Claude Thomas and James Thomas; and two sisters, Mary Lou Deal and Jean Warren. Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Vivian L. Gilley Thomas of Wartrace, TN; son, Michael Thomas, Jr. of Manchester, TN; two sisters, Virginia Lewis (J.D.) of Lavergne, TN and Vicki Gilley of Manchester, TN;  a brother, Jack L.Thomas of Manchester, TN; his beloved dog, “Tinker Belle”; and a host of other relatives and friends. Nancy Reese Jones

flower 21Nancy Reese Jones, 85, of Manchester, TN, formerly of Newport News, VA, entered into God’s eternal embrace Tuesday, January 20, 2015 after a brief illness. The daughter of Hampton Chapell Reese and Hattie Newton Reese Mangum, Mrs. Jones was born in Petersburg, VA on September 20, 1929, and was a long-time member of the Orcutt Baptist Church in Newport News. After graduation from Newport News High School in 1947, she met and married the love of her life, Ralph Raymond Jones, Jr. While waiting for him to return from military service in Korea, she worked for the telephone company as an operator. After the birth of their son in 1952, Mrs. Jones served in numerous volunteer roles including supporting local hospitals as a ‘pink lady’ and as a Cub Scout den leader. She also worked for many years as the bookkeeper for the family business, R. R. Jones Furniture, Inc. in Newport News. Prior to moving from Virginia to Tennessee, Mrs. Jones was also an active supporter of the local Meals on Wheels program and the Peninsula Rescue Mission. As a member of the Comte de Grasse chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Yorktown, she served proudly as an officer in the chapter for several years. In 2006 Mr. and Mrs. Jones moved to Manchester to be closer to family where they became members of First Presbyterian Church. She was very involved in church activities, Hospice Compassus and the Manchester Good Samaritan Ministry.

Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 62 years. She is survived by a son, Ralph Raymond Jones III and his wife, Fay, of Manchester; two grandsons, Thomas Chappel Jones of Grapevine, TX, and Benjamin Trevor Jones of Milwaukee, WI, and his wife Maggie; a great grandson, Reece Chappel Jones; a niece Patsy Pride, her husband Robert and son Che of Poquoson, VA; and a nephew Billy Pat Jones and his wife Linda of Newport News. In addition, Mrs. Jones was excitedly awaiting the arrival of a great granddaughter in March.

A private graveside service will be held in Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News with Rev Ken Trinkle officiating. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at First Presbyterian Church in Manchester with Rev CJ Thompson officiating. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made either to First Presbyterian Church of Manchester, 1101 Jackson Street, Manchester, TN 37355 or the Good Samaritan Ministry of Manchester, P.O. 1/27/15 — Billy Frank Sawyer

flower4Billy Frank Sawyer, age 72, passed away on January 24, 2015 at his home in Manchester, Tennessee surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lynchburg, Tennessee to his parents, the late Claude D. Sawyer and Katherine Lee Casteel Sawyer. He was was also preceded in death by his son, Trenton Wade Sawyer and parents-in-law, Alfred L. Davis and Effie B. Thompson. In addition to being a United States Army Veteran, Mr. Sawyer was a retired Security Systems Administrator/Armorer at Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tullahoma (AEDC); prior City of Tullahoma Policeman; and former Detective with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the College Street Baptist Church in Tullahoma, a member of the Tennessee Sheriff’s Association and a member of the NRA-National Rifle Association. He will be remembered as a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to many people who enjoyed college football, gardening, woodworking, and helping family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Peggy Ann Davis Sawyer of Manchester, TN; son, Terry L. Sawyer (Mindy) of Beech Grove, TN; daughter, Tammy A. Warren (Darryl) of Lynchburg, TN; two grandchildren, Betsy Ann Sawyer and Kayla Nicole Warren; two great-grandchildren, Martin J. Harris and Maklain D. Flower 6Elizabeth Fenner age 74 of Tullahoma, passed away Sunday January 25, 2015 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. A native of Lincoln County she was the daughter of the late Claude Hazlett and Mildred Brown Hazlett. She was homemaker and enjoyed reading, spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching the cooking channels.
She is survived by her sons; Ricky Fenner of Tullahoma, Troy Fenner and his wife Linda also of Tullahoma, daughters; Carol Fenner of Tullahoma and Judy Brewer and her husband Curt of Babson Park, Fl, brothers; David Hazlett of Lynchburg and Jimmy Hazlett of Park City. 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy “JR” Fenner, sons; Charles Ray Fenner and Roy Dale Fenner, daughters; Traci Fenner, Mickey Jane Fenner and Vicki Gail Fenner.
