2/5/15 —– Joyce Griffin

flower 13Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Griffin, age 72, of Estill Springs, will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chuck Wilkerson and Bro. Neil Foster officiating.

Burial will follow in the Payne Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday evening from 5:00 till 9:00 PM at Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Mrs. Griffin passed away Monday at Harton Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Lawrence burg, TN to the late William and Ruthie Tittle Liles. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Griffin.

She is survived by three sons, Skeeter Griffin, Stacy Griffin, Stevie Griffin, a brother, Charlie Liles, sisters, Pauline Stacy, Ruby Baliff, Doris Bates, Louise Stephenson and Ruth Pursley, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren

2/4/15 —- Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Harris Gray

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Harris Gray, age 88 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on February 1, 2015 at the St. Thomas-West Hospital in Nashville.

She had retired from Batesville Casket Company in Manchester;was a co-owner and operator of the Hillsboro Telephone Company; a homemaker and a member and Elder of the Hillsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Gray was a Past Worthy Matron of the Manchester Order of the Eastern Star #339 and served as Grand Page at Grand Chapter OES in 2014. She will be remembered as one who loved spending time with her family, gardening, farming, growing flowers and sewing.

Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her husband, the late Melvin Gray; parents, William Vannoy Harris and Effie Ellen Gibbs Harris; great-granddaughter, Megan Parker; son-in-law, Richard Koslick; and brother, William Harris, Jr.

She is survived by her children, James E. Gray (Linda) of Murfreesboro, TN, Linda Koslick of Hillsboro, TN, Robert E. Gray (Jane) of Tullahoma, TN and Boyd W. Gray of Manchester, TN; sister, Mildred Crownover of Gadsden, AL; brother, Robert L. Harris of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Shelby Gray (Kendall), Jonathan Gray, Michael Gray (Nicole), Leah Perhac (Chris), Amy Coble, Lesa Reed, Chris Parker (Rita) and Lona Bailey (Chris); eleven great-grandchildren, Matthew Gray, Taylor Gray, Drew Perhac, Ashley Perhac, Ashleia Coble, Saige Coble, Conner Reed, Cassidy Reed, Brianna Parker, Sarah Parker and Christopher Parker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Central Funeral Home.

The Funeral Service and Order of the Eastern Star Service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Central Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at the Hillsboro Memorial Cemetery.

2/4/15 —- Elsie R. Starnes

Elsie R. Starnes “Beebaw”, passed this life on Saturday, January 31st, 2015 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma at the age of 90.

Mrs. Starnes was born December 29th, 1924 in New Bedford, MA to the late James and Lucy King Robinson.

During her life, she worked at The Parris Store in Tullahoma for over 20 years, and was a member of Wesley Heights United Methodist Church as well as The Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Starnes is preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Starnes; two sisters, Ivy Robinson and Freida Changarlides; two brothers, Fred and Harry Robinson; and one daughter, Patricia Ann Starnes.

She is survived by one son, Tommy Starnes and his wife Peggy of Ardmore; three daughters, Cathy Damron and her husband Justin of Tullahoma, Debi Ingram Cook and her husband Billy of Tullahoma, and Margie Lowe and her husband Paul of Manchester; Nine grandchildren, Vicky Bradford and her husband Steve, Becky Shelton and her husband Dexter, Robert Starnes and his wife Karie, Jeremy Damron and his wife Sherri, Jasen Damron and his wife Natalie, Jimmy Ingram, Paul Lowe Jr. and his fiancé Lauren, Matt Lowe and his wife K.T., and Cody Lowe and his wife Jessica; and 24 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Trace, Katie and her husband Drew, Carly, Sam, Abigail, Ayden, Jeremy Wayne, Jacob, Jase, Jack, J.P., Ashley, Emma, Chesnie, Alexis, Calyssa, Bailynn, Tommy, Lucy, Luke, Brooklyn, Camryn, and Charlotte.

Visitation for Mrs. Starnes will be held on Tuesday, February 3rd from 5:00-8:00 pm at Kilgore Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will take place Wednesday, February 4th at 1:00 pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Jim Fields and J.C. Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma.

Jose Angel Arredondo Rodriguez, age 16 of Winchester passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

No local services are scheduled.

A native of Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico he was the son of J. Angel Arredondo Barcenas and Victoria Rodriguez Dorantes.

He is survived by his brother, Esteban Arredondo of Winchester and Angeles Arredondo of Winchester and cousin, Laura Shrum of Tullahoma.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Lee Powell, age 92 of Manchester will be conducted at 1:00pm, Monday, February 2 at the Manchester Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bennie Benjamin officiating.

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the Powell family will be from 11am, Monday until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Powell passed away Saturday at the Manchester Healthcare Center surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Powell was born in Cannon County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Herbert L. Lewis and Clatie Bush Lewis.

She worked for many years at her family’s grocery store (Lewis Market) in Manchester and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Manchester.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Homer Prater Powell who died in 2004, by a brother, Herbert Lewis, Jr and by two sisters, Dalah Jones and Daphna Garrett. Mrs. Powell is survived by:

flower 9Virgil Edwin Koop, age 75 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away on January 25, 2015 at the Manchester Health Care Center. Mr. Koop was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Tullahoma, Tennessee; a member of the Lutheran Childhood Welfare Association; and a member of the Board of Trustees. He graduated from Walther Lutheran High in 1957 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957-1957. Mr. Koop retired after a career in Sales with Wilson Sporting Goods and Spaulding Sporting Goods. He enjoyed golfing, refinishing furniture and model building. He was born in Chicago, IL and was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Edwin Koop; parents, the late Arthur John Koop and Adeline Clensendorf; brothers, Wilbur, William, Harold and Roy; and sister, Evelyn. Mr. Koop is survived by his son, Christopher John Koop of Vista, California and sisters, Viola and Ellen. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Tullahoma, TN with Pastor Martin Nutter officiating.

smithDeveta C. Smith, of Winchester, passed this life on Thursday, January 29th, 2015 at her residence at the age of 90. Mrs. Smith was born in Madison County, Alabama to the late Albert Sherman and Lucille Yarbrough Church and was a member of Turkey Creek United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, George S. “Dick” Smith; one daughter, Rita Stewart; and one brother, J.C. Church. She is survived by two daughters, Sheila Holden and her husband Scott of Winchester, and Tonita Davis and her husband John of Tullahoma; seven grandchildren, Richard Davis, Bryan Davis and his fiancé Debbie, J.C. Davis and his wife Monna, Shawn Stewart and his wife Andrea, Stacy Stewart, Bleu Holden, and Bart Holden; seven great-grandchildren, Brandi Evans, Jedediah Davis, Millie Davis, Miriam Davis, Reece Stewart, Kole Stewart, and Macy Stewart; and two great-great-grandchildren, Xavier Elliot and Aaliyah Elliot. flower 4Elaine Brown Killingsworth Cummins, age 79 of Tullahoma passed away Wednesday, January 28 at Harton Regional Medical Center. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, January 31 at 11 AM at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
A native of Knoxville, she was the daughter of the late Reid and Margaret Robinson Brown. Mrs. Cummins was a realtor in the Chattanooga area for many years. She was a member of the Hixson United Methodist Church in Chattanooga. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and was an avid sports fan. She especially enjoyed watching her grandsons play football and soccer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Ronald Killingsworth and David Cummins and her son, Mike Killingsworth
Mrs. Cummins is survived by her daughter, Debbie Wheeler and her husband, Brian of Tullahoma; one brother, Steve Brown of Soddy Daisy; two grandsons, Paul Wheeler and his wife, Lindsey of Tullahoma and Michael Wheeler and his wife, Mackenzie of Nashville and three great grandchildren, Weston Paul, Pierce Colley and Harley James Wheeler.

flower8Helen Loretta Bowen Smartt, age 73 of Bradyville, Tennessee, passed away on January 25, 2015 at the Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville. Mrs. Smartt was a homemaker and member of the Midway Church of Christ in Cannon County. She enjoyed crafts, sewing and gardening and will be remembered as one who loved her family and was faithful to her Lord and the Church. She enjoyed her neighbors and friends and dearly loved her sister Georgia, her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Smartt was preceded in death by her husband, Garnett Wayne Smartt; granddaughter, Deanna Hope Smartt; and parents, Johnie Calvin Bowen and Mamie B. Bowen. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa L. Sissom (Wade) of Bradyville, TN; son, Paul E. Smartt (Manissa) of Bradyville, TN; sister, Georgia Alexander of Elkhart, IN; five grandchildren, Jennifer Joseph, David Joseph, Daniel Joseph, Hannah Smartt and Rachel Smartt; three great-grandchildren, Colton Placek, Ayden Placek and Celestia Nadeau; special niece, Kathy Alexander; and a host of other relatives and friends.

follow in Cooper Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM
until 9:00 PM on Friday evening at the funeral home.  Mrs. Gaither passed
away Tuesday morning at Life Care Center in Tullahoma, following an extended
illness.

Frances was born in Coffee County, TN, the daughter of the late Auther B.
and Ellen Hawks May.  She was a homemaker, who enjoyed making flower
arrangements and working crossword puzzles.

In addition to her parents, Frances was also preceded in death by her loving
husband, Ellis C. Gaither, Jr.; two sons, Johnny and Jeffrey Gaither; one
granddaughter, Janine Gaither; and one grandson, Shawn Gaither.  She is
survived by two sons, Tim Gaither and Terry (Sonseea) Gaither, both of
Manchester; three grandchildren, Jonathan (Felicia) Gaither, Danielle
(Jeremy) Wright, and Justin Gaither; and three great grandchildren, Collin
Gaither, Madison Kanagie, and Kyra Dykes.
