Edna Frances Parks age 95 of Pelham, Tennessee entered into rest Saturday, January 2, 2016 in Bowling Green, KY. She was born on September 20, 1920 in Pelham, a daughter of the late Edgar Harold Parks and Nannie Elizabeth Reider Parks; sister, Zora Bean; brothers, Jonas, Glenn and Charles Parks; brother-in-law, Ralph White.

Edna was a homemaker and member of Chapman’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her sister, Jean White of Bowling Green; two brothers, David Parks (Betty), Orlando, FL and Frank Parks (Shirley) of East Lake, Ohio, brother-in-law, John Bean of Hillsboro; several nieces and nephews including, Deborah Williams (Rick) of Bowling Green, Nancy Parks Wilson of Painesville, OH, Lisa Parks Colboch of Wickliffe, OH, Christopher Parks (Margaret) of Maple Hgts, OH, Betty Walsh (Patrick) of Mentor OH, Kenny Parks (Diane) of Concord,OH, Katherine Clifton (Jim) Willoughby,OH, Martha Thompson (Larry) of Quebec, TN, Mary Ellen Shelton (Joey) of Hillsboro,TN and Randy Bean of Tullahoma; also several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Warren Cemetery in Pelham. Expressions of Sympathy may be made to Chapman’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene, 272 Chapman’s Chapel Road, Pelham, TN 37366.

flower 4James Henry “Jim – Q BALL” Anderson, age 68 of Hillsboro,
Tennessee, passed away on December 31, 2015 at the Erlanger Medical
Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a self-employed insulation
installer. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, the
late James Robert Anderson and Juanita Dyer Anderson. He loved his
girls and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
unconditionally and enjoyed hunting and fishing and CB radios . He
is survived by his children, Regina Fults of Estill Springs, Tenn.,
Melissa Majors (Steve) of Hillboro, Tenn. and Rebecca Stovall
(Shannon) of Decherd, Tenn.; step-daughter, Wendy Lynch; sisters,

flower 13John Billy Brothers, age 76 of Manchester, Tennessee, passed away
on January 2, 2016 at the Manchester Health Care Center. Mr.
Brothers was a retired Electrician with Sverdrup at the Arnold
Engineering Development Center (AEDC); a member of the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; and a member of
the Manchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed
woodworking, gardening and fishing and was a loving provider for
his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved
him. He was a man of strong and quiet faith. He was preceded in
death by his father, the late Leonard Harley Brothers. Mr. Brothers
is survived by his loving wife, Deanna E. Darnell Brothers of
Manchester, Tenn.; mother, Pearl Ephemia Williams Brothers of Beech
Grove, Tenn.; children, Billy D. Brothers (Regina) of Huntsville,
Alabama and Lisa C. Porter (Ernest) of Springfield, Tenn.; three

medleyErnest “Ernie” Eugene Medley, 49, of Nashville passed away on Dec. 29, 2015 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Mr. Medley was employed in the car detailing business and loved to fish and hunt.
Born to the late Sandra Faye Davis and Lawton James Medley, Mr. Medley was also preceded in death by one brother, Tony Medley.
He is survived by daughters Cecila (Dustin) Alford of Hillsboro and Patricia Medley of Manchester. Also surviving are three sons, Mitchell and Billy Medley of Manchester and Matthew Medley of Hillsboro. Six grandchildren are also surviving.
Visitation with family members will begin at noon Sunday, Jan. 3 followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Huntland.

1/01/16 — Thurman Lewis Walden

flower 21Thurman Lewis Walden, age 89 was born May 31, 1926 in the Sixteenth
Model Community of Coffee County to Lonnie Patton Walden and Rena
Jones Walden. His death came on December 28, 2015 at St. Thomas
Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro.
As a youngster, he was active in 4-H and received the 1981
Tennessee 4-H Alumni Recognition Award. His draft into the Army
came during his senior year at Coffee County Central High School,
sending him to the Philippine Islands, Okinawa and Korea in WWII.
In the early 60’s, Walden Bros. Food Market opened, with Thurman
and his brother, Clifton (“Tip”) as Co-owners. Eleven years later,
he went to AEDC, working in Administrative Services, and retired
from AEDC.

Community involvement included Tennessee Board of the American
Cancer Society (2 terms), Coffee County Mental Health Assoc. (2
terms), Manchester Lions Club (Pres-’74/75), Coffee County Fair
Asso.-Board of Directors (49 years), Coffee County Commission (2
terms). Announcing horse shows- many different breeds, but
especially, The Saddlebred and Tennessee Walking Horse- was a 42
year long hobby in all the Southeastern states and including
various tasks for the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.

First, and foremost, Mr. Walden was a Christian, working and
worshiping for many years with Red Hill Church of Christ, serving
as its treasurer for 20 years; and, more recently, worshiping with
the New Union congregation.

Thurman Walden was a caring and loving husband to his wife of 40
years, Linda Allmon Walden, to his son, Terry Walden, to his
daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and “Bud” Dowden, to grandson, Chad
Floyd and great-grandson Cody Floyd, to granddaughter Brandi Stacy,
and great-grandchildren, Zachery and Olivia.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 31,2015 at 4 to 7 P.M. and
Funeral will be held January 1, 2016 at 2:00 at the Central Funeral
Home. Burial will be at the Hurricane Cemetery.

12/31/2015-Arnold Bernard Mitchum

Arnold Bernard Mitchum, of Manchester passed away December 27,
2015. A native of Custer, Oklahoma, and resident of Manchester, he
was the son of the late Cecil and Edna Mitchum. He was a member of
the Calvary Baptist Church in Manchester, Tennessee and retired
from Yellow Freight Trucking. After retiring, he liked and enjoyed
outside work, loved to eat breakfast with the guys, and old cars.
Mr. Mitchum was preceded in death by his sister Glenna Mitchum
Holly; step-grandchild, Nathan Earl May. He is survived by his
wife: Jane Audrey May. Five children, Cameron and (Cathy) Mitchum
of Pullman, Washington, Rick and (Marilyn) Mitchum of LasVegas,
Nevada, Gerald and (Linda) Mitchum of LasVegas, Nevada, Mitchel
Mitchum of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Michael Mitchum of Nolensville,
Tennessee; three step-children, Julie and (Jeff) Chadwick, Susie
and (Mark) Lawrance, and Dennis May; seven grandchildren, three
grandchildren, 8 greatgranchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren.

Born in Marshall Co., Mrs. Curtis was the daughter of the late Harvey Brents Ring and Vannie Rebecca Sudberry Curtis. She was the widow of Edwin Brown Curtis. Mrs. Curtis was a homemaker and member of Old Lasea Church of Christ. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Danny Curtis, and 2 brothers, Horace Ring and Dale Ring.

Survived by 2 daughters, Rebecca Odell of Manchester, TN and Connie Coker of Decherd, TN; a son, Edwin Curtis, Jr of Manchester, TN; 2 brothers, Ray Ring of the Pottsville community of Maury Co. and Harvey Ring of Antioch, TN; 6 grandchldren and 6 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 1, 2016 from 11am – 1pm at Lawrence Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1pm, Friday from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Brents Ring officiating. Burial will follow at Ring Cemetery in Pottsville.

12/30/15 — Oscar Samuel Tucker

tuckerOscar “Buddy” Samuel Tucker, Jr. of Manchester passed this life on
Monday, December 28th, 2015 at his home at the age of 76. Mr. Tucker was
born in Coffee County to the late Oscar S. Tucker Sr. and Daisy Clark
Tucker. During his life he worked as a Press Operator at Carrier Air, and
was a retired member of the Army National Guard. Mr. Tucker was also a
member of Rutledge Falls Baptist Church as well as an avid outdoorsman
who enjoyed biking, fishing, and football. In addition to his parents,
Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by one brother, Don Tucker. He is
survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years Barbara Joyce Perry
Tucker of Manchester; one daughter Paige Matthews and her husband Mike of
Smyrna; three grandchildren, Erin Matthews of Chattanooga, Micah Matthews
of Tuscaloosa, and Brendan Matthews of Smyrna; one sister Linda Smith and
her husband Fred of Tullahoma; one sister-in-law Mary Tucker of
Manchester; two aunts, Joyce Register, and Juanita Von Almen; several!
nieces and nephews; and many beloved cousins. Visitation for Mr. Tucker
will be held on Tuesday, December 29th, 2015 at Kilgore Funeral Home
from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, December
30th, 2015 at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike

Lela Humphries Morris Honey, age 80 of Hunltand, passed away December 25, 2015 at Tranquility Hospice in Marietta, GA. A native of Jacksboro, TX she was a 1952 graduate of Mineral Wells High School. Following high school she met her first husband, Dennis Morris and they made their home in Chicago until 1960 when they relocated to the Pleasant Ridge community near Huntland. For the past 2 years she made her home with her daughter and son-in law in Marietta, GA when her health began to fail. She was a long-time and faithful member of Maxwell Baptist Church and loved gardening, sewing. She was an excellent cook and a woman who will be remembered as a “valiant warrior” who survived many years of kidney disease and a person with a pure heart and the strongest of strong traditional values. Mrs. Honey is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Esther Leatherwood and her father, Ivey Jay Humphries; brother, Dennis E. Morris; husband, Leland Honey; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Kevin) Roth of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Jonathan Morris, David Morris, Cristy Blankenship, Anna Morris, Courtney Gass, Rebekah Morris and Catie Whorton; great grandchildren, Asher & Luke Blankenship.
