New Technology Helping State Troopers

THP Colonel Tracy Trott

New technology is turning into a legitimate life-saver for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
What troopers are now doing has never been done before. What they’re doing could give anyone a second chance.
Colonel Tracy Trott calls it predictive analytics. It uses color-coded data to predict the future and prevent highway deaths.
On a more simplified level, troopers can look at maps based on crash history, maps, and things like big events.
The models rate certain areas by color to determine the highest accident risk. It can even predict the time of day when there’s a greater risk.
Troopers will then deploy to the area and use their basic traffic enforcement skills to help lower the chance of a tragedy.
Tennessee has been using it, and accidents are down 7 percent. Four of the last five years have been the safest on state roads since 1963.
“We think the public and citizens of Tennessee are seeing the benefit,” Trott added.
This year to date, there have been nearly 40 fewer deaths in Tennessee. (WKRN-News 2)

Tullahoma City Clean Up day is Saturday, July 25 from 9:00 am until Noon. Volunteers are asked to report to Public Works for tools and assignments. Also, volunteers who register at Public Works will be entered to win two tickets to South Jackson Goes Country on August 7, 8 or 9.
“Getting litter picked-up is critical to the vibrancy of our City,” said Director of Public Works, Wayne Limbaugh. “We ask residents to stop litter. With your help, we can go a long way in keeping Tullahoma clean and beautiful. It is simple to keep the garbage with you and throw it away and recycle it at home or a gas station.”
“We want Tullahomans to care enough to help us keep our roadways free of litter,” said Director of Community Development, Winston Brooks. “To encourage volunteers, we have partnered with South Jackson Civic Center and two volunteers will win tickets to South Jackson Goes Country.
Concerned citizens can take action by reporting litter when you witness littering from vehicles on the state’s roadways by calling 1-877-8-LITTER. If you get the license plate, they’ll hear from the state. The letter will include information about how to contain their litter and inform them that litterers can be fined up to $1,500. Residents can also report hot spots to Public Works at 454-1768.
The Think Green Tullahoma Committee is sponsoring a city clean-up day Saturday, July 25, 2015. The Take Pride in Your City Clean-up Day runs from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Volunteers are needed to spend as little or as much time as they can to make Tullahoma more attractive.
Four times a year the Tullahoma Public Works Department organizes a Clean-up Day and asks for the help of volunteers.
Please don’t make an excuse.  Public works will supply the bags and grabbers to pick up the trash.
If you want to be officially counted for service hours, Volunteers should call Public Works at 931-454-1768 to sign up and then meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Tullahoma Public Works Department, 942 Maplewood Avenue for supplies and assignments the day of the event.
