Memphis Woman Arrested on Charges of Fraud & Forgery along with Criminal Impersonation

Kamisha Michelle Lee… Photo provided by the CCSD.

On Thursday (May 24, 2018) Kamisha Michelle Lee age 32 of Memphis was allegedly involved in trying to obtain several thousands of dollars at First Franklin Financial on North Jackson St. in Tullahoma.
Lee is accused of having several ID cards that did not belong to her, as well as a social security card. Lee also had several thousands of dollars in cash on her person, several credit cards along with blank credit cards which were believed to be used as fabricated credit cards.
Lee is believed to be involved in a fraud case that stretches across the state of Tennessee.
Tullahoma Officer John Tyree arrested Lee on charges of fraud and forgery and criminal impersonation.
Lee was booked in at the Coffee Jail under a bond of $100,000 and her court date is Tuesday May 29, 2018.

Former Co-Band Director at Thullahoma High School Headed to Prison

Martin Drew McFarlane jail intake photo at the Coffee Co. Jail.

Sentencing for former co-band director at Tullahoma High School Martin Drew McFarlane was held last week in federal court in Chattanooga.
The charge of child pornography against McFarlane carried a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum of 20, along with a fine of up to $250,000 and a mandatory term of five years supervised release.
The charges came after agents from the FBI and investigators from the Tullahoma Police Department found what was described as child pornography on his computer at his residence.
On Dec. 14, 2017 McFarlane appeared before U.S. Magistrate Christopher Steger and entered a plea of guilty to one of two counts of transportation of child pornography through the internet.
Despite the government’s objection, United States District Judge Harry S. Mattice Jr. handed down the five-year sentence and waived the fine.
Following five years in prison, McFarlane will be subject to another five years of supervised release. The conditions of that release include continued mental health treatment, participation in a drug or alcohol abuse testing and treatment program, participation in DNA collection and compliance with sex offender laws. Additionally, McFarlane will be prohibited from owning a firearm.
McFarlane, a 2004 Tullahoma High School graduate, was hired as the co-director of the band program in 2015. McFarlane resigned from his position at the high school the day after his arrest on May 11, 2017.

Don’t Leave Children in Hot Cars

Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves is reminding people to not to leave children inside unattended vehicles. With the temperatures around 90 degrees, leaving children in a vehicle can lead to death. As the temperature inside a vehicle can escalate by 15 degrees in just 10 minutes and with the hot temperatures and high humidity death can come very quickly. Even if you leave the windows rolled down some, the temperatures inside a vehicle can become deadly. Please take children in the store or leave them at home as it would be better than death.
A one-year child died in a hot car this week in Nashville, after she had been left in a car seat all day in a pickup truck. The investigation is ongoing.
When temperatures outside exceed 86 degrees F, the internal temperatures of the vehicle can quickly reach 134 to 154 degrees F. Heat stroke may occur when a body temperature passes 104 degrees Fahrenheit. This can overwhelm the brain’s temperature control, causing symptoms such as dizziness, disorientation, agitation, confusion, seizure, and/or death.
On average, 38 children die in hot cars each year from heat-related deaths after being trapped inside motor vehicles. Even the best of parents or caregivers can unknowingly leave a sleeping baby in a car; and the end result can be injury or even death.
Tennessee ranks 8th in the nation in hot car deaths, according to the non-profit Kids and Cars.
In the U.S. this year, seven children have died after being left in hot vehicles, according to the non-profit Kids and Cars. Another three deaths are still pending autopsies.
Anyone seeing children left in a vehicle without the air conditioner running are asked to call 911.

Graduation Held on Friday for CCCHS

Photo provided

Graduation was held Friday night (May 25, 2018) for Coffee County High School seniors. A crowd estimated to be over 6,000 saw 392 graduates accept their diplomas. The seniors took their next step toward a future full of expectations as they heard from fellow classmates; Valedictorian Brianna Cardenal, Salutatorian Michelle Dong, Class President Lauren Tomberlin and Principal Dr Joey Vaughn. This was Vaughn’s final graduation at the high school as he was named Deputy Director of Schools, taking over for retiring Joe Pedigo.
Schools in Coffee County will begin the 2018-19 school year with an abbreviated day with students dismissing at 10am on August 1. The first full-day of classes start August 3, 2018.

Memorial Day

Wreaths were placed at the war memorials in Manchester back in 2015… Photo by Rob Clutter

Today (Monday) people will be out enjoying what is called the official start of summer, we should remember today is Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The holiday is currently observed every year on the last Monday of May.
Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, especially to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries.
Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day – Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, whereas Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.
