Muslim Advocacy Group Files Formal Complaint against Coffee County District Attorney Craig Northcott

Coffee County District Attorney Craig Northcott

The Muslim advocacy group, Council on American-Islamic Relations has announced that it has filed a complaint against Coffee County District Attorney Craig Northcott.
The group filed a formal complaint with the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Supreme Court of Tennessee.
We reported recently that Northcott wrote in a Facebook comment that Islam is “evil, violent and against God’s truth.” He also wrote, “there are no Constitutional rights. There are God-given rights protected by the Constitution. If you don’t believe in the one true God, there is nothing to protect.” Northcott made the comments while responding to a Tullahoma alderman candidate’s post in late April.
Northcott later responded he would not resign and did not have anything to apologize about.
Northcott told WMSR News on Wednesday afternoon that he did not have a response about the Muslim advocacy group’s formal complaint at this time.

Shelby is a white female standing 5’3” and weighing around 135lbs with brown hair and hazel eyes.
If you have information concerning the whereabouts of 17 year-old Shelby Keeton of Manchester, please contact the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department at 931-728-9555 or you can call 1-800-843-5678, that’s 1-800-The-Lost.

Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Shelbyville

A Shelbyville man lost his life around midday Monday when his motorcycle and a flatbed truck collided on North Main Street at Palmer Drive.
Victor Curry, 58, of U.S. 41A South was responsive and talking with emergency personnel at the scene, Deputy Chief Brian Crews of the Shelbyville Police Department said. They added that Curry was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville where he died of serious internal injuries.
Bobby Williams, 29, of Jolley Road, told Officer Chris Vest he pulled into the busy intersection from Palmer Drive and didn’t see Curry’s oncoming northbound motorcycle. Williams showed no signs of impairment and has been cooperative with investigators, Vest said, and no charges are likely except for possible traffic violations. (Shelbyville Times-Gazette)

Accuplacer Assessment Test Available Now at all Motlow State Campuses

Motlow State is offering the Accuplacer Assessment Test at all Motlow campuses multiple times through the 2019 calendar year. The Accuplacer replaced the Compass test. Students planning to enroll at Motlow for the fall semester who need to take the Accuplacer, which is used to assess a student’s readiness for college-level work, should do so as soon as possible.
Students who are 21 years of age or older must take all three portions (reading, sentence skills and math) unless they have valid ACT scores on file or collegiate credit from an accredited college or university.
The Accuplacer test is a computer testing system that helps determine student academic readiness in reading, sentence skills and mathematics for college-level work. Test results determine which courses are best suited to the student’s level of readiness.
Before taking the test, students must have the following on file in Motlow’s admissions office: a completed admission application, official high school and/or college transcripts, and if applicable, official test scores. Special accommodations are available for students who require other than standard conditions for taking the test.
The initial test is provided free of charge. Students who take the Accuplacer test and feel their test results have placed them incorrectly, may challenge their initial placement score and retake the test, or portions of the test. The college charges a $10 challenge fee for each portion of the test, or $20 to challenge the entire test.
For additional information or to schedule test dates and registration, please visit the Motlow State testing website mscc.edu/testing or call 931-393-1763 or 1-800-654-4877 ext. 1763.

Tennessee Sixth Rainiest State in the Nation

2019 flooding

Tennessee’s 4.1 inches of monthly rainfall and 51.6 inches of yearly rainfall make it the sixth rainiest state in the nation, reports financial news website 24/7 Wall St.
To identify the states with the most rain, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed for each state average yearly precipitation from 1901 to 2000 using the Climate-at-a-Glance feature of the National Centers for Environmental Information produced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). 24/7 Wall St. also reviewed for each state average monthly rainfall based on precipitation data collected from 1981 through 2010, also from NOAA. Hawaii ranks number 1 with 57.1 inches per year. 100 years of data were not available for Hawaii, so its ranking is based on the average yearly rainfall over the 30 years through 2010.

No Rate Increase and Rebates for ERPUD Customers

Elk River Public Utility District (ERPUD) serves more than 17,000 homes and businesses in Coffee and Franklin counties and they have some good news to pass along. ERPUD has announced no rate increases for the year to come.
Rebates will also be coming to all active customers in the total amount of approximately $975,000.
For residential ERPUD customers, the base service charge falls at either $10.75 or $14 per month, depending on whether the customer uses services year-round or for heating only.
Commercial and industrial customers pay higher monthly charges.
In June, ERPUD will credit those customer service charges to all active customers. In fact, the rebate amount will effectively credit customers for four months’ applicable service charges, returning approximately $975,000 to its customers.
ERPUD will give customers credit on their bill. Industrial processing customers are most likely to notice the rebate without any such notation on their bill. Those customers, who pay a minimum $250 charge each month, will see a $1,000 drop in June.
Large commercial customers, who pay a minimum $60 charge each month, will notice a $240 drop in June.
Residential customers, who pay between $10.75 and $14 each month depending on service, will see their bills drop by $43 and $56 respectively in June.
More good news is that ERPUD’s 2020 fiscal year budget projects revenues at $20.4 million with expenditures of $19.1 million.
