SBCO makes donations to Manchester, Coffee County and Tullahoma schools

We are proud to contribute to Coffee County Schools’ Family Resource Center’s ‘Invest in the Best’ program, Manchester City Schools’ Family Resource Center’s ‘WeCare’ program and Tullahoma City Schools’ Coordinated School Health Program. All are outstanding student support initiatives that continually address the barriers hindering student academic achievement,” said Carter Sain, SBCO President.
The Sportsmen and Businessmen Charitable Organization has been serving the Coffee County community for 38 years.


Alabama man, 58, jailed on statutory rape charges in Grundy County
An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the indictment and arrest of an Alabama man on charges of statutory rape and sexual battery.
At the request of 12th Judicial District Attorney General J. Michael Taylor, on January 5th, TBI agents began investigating Danny Pitts on allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor in Grundy County. Working with detectives from the Hartselle (AL) Police Department, agents developed information that the sexual offenses occurred from August to November in 2019.
On March 14th, the Grundy County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Danny D. Pitts (age 58) with one count of Aggravated Statutory Rape, two counts of Sexual Battery by an Authority Figure, and one count of Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure. On Monday, Pitts surrendered himself to agents at the Grundy County Jail, where he was booked on a $50,000 bond. He has since bonded out.
Pitts is a former pastor of GracePoint Church in Decatur, Alabama. According to WHNT, Pitts was arrested in Morgan County, Alabama in November and charged with one count of first-degree sodomy and one count of second-degree sodomy.

Arrest made in Bedford County homicide
An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and deputies with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the arrest of a Shelbyville man, who now faces a murder charge.
At the request of 17th Judicial District Attorney General Robert Carter, on March 15th, TBI agents joined Bedford County deputies in investigating a homicide, after a woman was found deceased in a home in the 31-hundred block of Sims Road. The woman was subsequently identified as Sarah Angelina Johnson (age 32). During the course of the investigation, agents and detectives identified Raymond Smith as the individual responsible for Sarah Johnson’s death.
On Monday, agents arrested Raymond Antonio Smith (age 45) and charged him with First Degree Murder. He was booked into the Bedford County Detention Center without bond.
Bedford County authorities on Tuesday, March 15, warned the public to be on the lookout for a black male with a slender build who was last seen in the area of Sims Rd.

Billye Louise Margowski
Billye Louise Margowski of Tullahoma passed this life on Tuesday, March 22,
2022 at her residence at the age of 85. A family memorial service was held
at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
Mrs. Margowski, a native of Antlers, OK, was the daughter of the late
Walter E. and Evelyn Wall Logan. She was a Choctaw Indian and was very
proud of her heritage. She was a U S Marine veteran. She attended the
Chicago Floral Institute and was a Floral Designer. She was a very artistic
person and enjoyed painting and making beautiful Christmas ornaments. Her
favorite times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad
Margowski; son, Paul Margowski; brothers, Richard, Bob and Michael Logan
and sister, Mary Logan.
She is survived by sons, Philip Margowski (Kimberly) of Ottawa, IL and
Joseph Margowski (Donna) of Manchester; daughters, Cecilia “Cis” Behel of
Tullahoma and Tesh Clark (Chuck) of Moore County; brother, Breck Logan
(Janet) of Ardmore, OK; twelve grandchildren and several great
grandchildren.

HS BASEBALL: Raiders drop 4th straight with district opening loss to Franklin County
The opening of District 6-4A did not go the way of the Raiders Monday night, as Coffee County Central dropped their league opener 8-4 on the road to Franklin County.
The loss marks 4 straight for CHS after opening up with a win over Riverdale on March 14.
Monday night in Winchester, the Raiders fell behind 8-0 before finally adding four runs in the top of the seventh to make things interesting.
The Raiders only had one extra base hit in the game – a triple from freshman Cole Pippenger. Pippenger also had an RBI and a run scored.
Franklin County was able to chase Red Raider starter Jacob Holder early. Holder allowed 4 runs over 1 2/3. He walked 5 and allowed just one hit.
The district series moves to Manchester at 6 p.m. Tuesday. That game will be broadcast live on Thunder Radio – 107.9 FM, 1320 AM, 106.7 FM and on the Manchester Go app.
MS SCOREBOARD: Raider baseball remains perfect; CMS softball beats Westwood
Coffee Middle School’s Red Raiders remain unbeaten in conference play with a 6-4 win over South Monday night in Manchester.
Coffee County ended up with 2 RBIs from Yancer – including a walkoff double to give the Raides the win.
The Raiders also go an RBI and a hit from Landan Abellana and an RBI out of AJ Schuster, who walked twice.
Abellana picked up the win in relief – allowing no runs over two 1/3 innings work. Caleb Crouch got a no decision – he struck out 7 batters and allowed 2 earned runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings work.
Coffee Middle Softball 9, Westwood 1
The CMS Lady Raiders breezed past Westwood in a cross-town rivalry Monday, 9-1.
Kaylee Buckley earned the win in the circle for Coffee County – striking out 4 batters and allowing just three hits over five innings of work.
Westwood’s Lily Norman was tagged with the loss. She allowed 9 runs (only 1 earned) and 10 hits while striking out 6 Lady Raider batters over 7 innings. Westwood’s defense committed four errors.
For the Lady Raiders, Ella Arnold and Taylor McBride each had two RBIs at the plate. Arnold tripled and Buckley and Maggie Montgomery added doubles.
Westwood had one extra base hit – a triple from Jules Ferrell.
HS SOFTBALL: Lady Raiders shutout in Monday home loss
Hits were hard to come by for Coffee County Central as the Lady Raiders were shutout at home Monday night – falling 3-0 to Columbia Academy.
The Lady Raiders managed just one hit – a single from senior Kiya Ferrell.
The rest of the game CHS struggled by Columbia Academy’s Slaughter, who struck out 13 Lady Raiders.
CHS was outhit 7-1.
Freshman Channah Gannon was tagged with the loss after allowing three earned runs on six hits. Kaitlyn Davis tossed three scoreless innings in relief for CHS.
The loss drops the Lady Raiders to 4-3 on the young season.
CHS will get much needed days off before returning to action Thursday.

Patricia “Trish” Ann Henley
Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia “Trish” Ann Henley, age 63 of Manchester, will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, March 26, 2022, in the Manchester Funeral Home chapel, with Bro. Mike Rigsby officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Rutledge Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, March 25, from 5 – 8 PM at the funeral home. Trish passed away on Saturday, March 19 at her home after a long, seventeen-year battle with COPD.
Trish was born on October 10, 1958, in Manchester, to the late Charles and Frances Ferrell Qualls. She was a homemaker and attended the Rutledge Hill Community Church with her husband, Jeff. Trish enjoyed shopping, fishing, camping, and watching her soap operas. But her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Trish is preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Jr., Gary Wayne, and Steve Qualls; sister, Diane Qualls; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Henley, and Gary Trussell, who was also a fishing buddy; sister-in-law, Jennifer Freid. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Jeffrey Dale Henley; daughters, Sabrina Miles, and Danielle Henley; grandchildren, Ethan Miles, Aubrianna Freeze, Bradley Dahmer, Emilee Wells, Lochlan Wells, Piper Lawson, and Brayden Robinson; sister, Kathy Hennessee (Billy); sisters-in law, Shelly Qualls, and Dianna Trussell; brothers-in-law, Roger Wilbur, Mitch Freid, and Ricky Henley (Earlene); several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends.
