One person killed in Thursday crash near Manchester

A Winchester man is dead after a two-vehicle crash at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Manchester.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, Christopher May, age 61, was traveling near 4160 Hillsboro Highway when his Chevrolet Silverado left its lane of travel and ran into the trailer of a 2000 Peterbilt tractor trailer.

According to the THP crash report, the operator of the Peterbilt tried to swerve around May’s truck when it entered his lane of travel, but May’s truck hit the trailer.

May, who has a Winchester address, was pronounced deceased. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

Manchester Rec Center roof ‘peeled back like a bedsheet’ by Wednesday storms

The Manchester Recreation Complex received substantial roof damage during Wednesday night’s storms (April 13, 2022).

According to Parks and Recreation Director AJ Fox, the wind peeled back a portion of the roof and scattered insulation, metal flashing, gutters and other materials across the property. The complex was closed Thursday, April 14 to assess damage. Fox said the center is closed “until at least Monday for repairs.”

Fox added that there is water damage in the upstairs wellness room. Crews were on site Thursday examining damage inside and outside to ensure the center can safely reopen.

“The corner of the roof by the indoor pool on the backside of the building … it started there and peeled it back like a bedsheet,” explained Fox.

The Manchester Recreation Complex is located at 557 N. Woodland St.

National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Coffee County at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. NWS also reported straight line wind speeds in Coffee County of 60 miles per hour. Multiple reports have come in of downed trees and limbs across the area.

Duck River Electric crews reported that about 9,500 members were without power across their entire service area overnight Wednesday.

Authorities searching for stolen side by side

Coffee County Sheriff’s Department officials are asking for the public’s help locating a side by side that was stolen earlier this week.

Authorities say a Kawasaki KRX 2020 was taken sometime between Sunday, April 10, and Wednesday, April 13. I t is green in color with a blue roll cage. You can see photo below.

Multiple Easter Egg hunts are this weekend in Manchester

There are a few Easter Egg Hunts coming this weekend to be aware of.

Manchester’s Parks and Recreation Center will have its annual Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 16.

Manchester Recreation Department

The egg hunt for ages 7 and under will be at 1 p.m. in Fred Deadman Park. There will be a night egg hunt for ages 8 and older at The Babe Ruth Field that begins at 8 p.m. These events are free.

Common John Brewing Company

There will be multiple egg hunts and photos with the Easter Bunny at Common John Brewing Company Saturday, April 16.

Ages 1-3 at noon

Ages 4-6 at 12:15 p.m.

Ages 7-9 at 12:30 p.m.

Ages 10-12 at 12:45 p.m.

Everyone will have the opportunity for pictures with the Easter Bunny, as well.

Common John Brewing Company is located at 210 Woodbury Highway.

County, city offices closed April 15 for Good Friday

Several offices will be closed on Friday, April 15, in observance of Good Friday.

This includes Coffee County and Manchester City Government offices.

Several businesses in the area area altering hours, as well.

Slow down Tennessee effort launches Friday

On Friday, April 15, the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) will join public safety partners statewide to launch Slow Down Tennessee. From April 15 – 29, participating agencies will help increase awareness and enforcement to reduce speeding-related crashes, injuries, and fatalities across Tennessee.

According to Tennessee’s Integrated Traffic Analysis Network (TITAN), from 2020 to 2022, there were over 28,000 traffic crashes in Tennessee related to speeding, racing, reckless driving, or aggressive driving.

The public is encouraged to participate on social media by using #SlowDownTN to help spread awareness. The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) and local law enforcement statewide will increase saturation patrols, conduct high visibility enforcement, and utilize other tactics to curb speeding drivers.

Bryce Alexander Kutzli

A celebration of life for Mr. Bryce Alexander Kutzli, age 78 of Manchester, will be conducted at 2:00PM on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Manchester Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Mr. Kutzli passed peacefully from this life on Friday, April 1, 2022, at St. Thomas – Midtown in Nashville, TN.

Bryce was born in Liberty Center, OH on September 3, 1943, the son of the late Fernando and Rosemary Kutzli.  He was a member of West End Baptist Church in Tullahoma, and he also attended Forest Mill Baptist Church in Manchester.  Bryce was a retired United States Navy veteran.  He served during the Vietnam War, was a Purple Heart recipient, and he was a member of many veteran’s clubs.  After retiring from the Navy, Bryce worked and retired from the United States Postal Service.  Family meant everything to Bryce.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Bryce is also preceded in death by his identical twin brother, David Kutzli; three brothers, Marvin, Clarence, and Lawrence Kutzli.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Emmie Dorsett Kutzli; son, Keith Brawley (Stacie); brother, Kevin Kutzli (Judith); sisters, Cynthia Kerr, Darcy Kutzli, and Grace Castillo (Albert); grandchildren, Kelsey Vickers (Case) and Kyle Brawley; great-grandchildren, Emery Vickers and Filip Vickers.

Rex Thomas Broadrick

Rex Thomas Broadrick, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Tuesday, April 12 th , 2022 at his home at the age of 63. Rex was born in Manchester to the late Ross Broadrick and Wilma Jean Reynolds Broadrick who survives. During his life, he worked as a Contractor for R.B.S. Restoration. In addition to his father, Rex was preceded in death by two brothers, Ron and Rick Broadrick. He is survived by two sons, Travis Broadrick and Dakota Broadrick; two daughters, Melissa Broadrick and Trisha Broadrick; his mother, Wilma Jean Broadrick; two brothers, Randy and Russell Broadrick; and grandchildren, Alaina, Harper, Liam and Cara. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15 th , 2022 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 16 th , 2022 at 11:00am in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Harold Partin officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Kilgore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
