Alontae Taylor throws out first pitch of district softball touranment
Coffee County Red Raider football alum Alontae Taylor stopped by Terry Floyd Field Thursday to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Lady Raiders opened the District 6-4A tournament against Shelbyville.
Taylor tossed the first pitch then hung around all evening to watch the Lady Raiders win 13-3.
Taylor, who played quarterback for the Red Raiders before going on to play defensive back for the University of Tennessee Volunteers, was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. He was the 49th overall selection.


CHS tennis shows out at district tournament
Coffee County Central tennis team showed out at the district tournament Thursday, May 5, 2022 in Shelbyville.
The doubles team of Lauren Perry and Rylea McNamara were crowned doubles district champions for the second year in a row.
The boys doubles team of Krish Patel and Liam Brown took second. Jonathan Nelson finished second in the district in singles.
McNamara, Patel, Brown and Nelson were all selected to the all-district team. Perry was named District MVP.
Everyone advances to the region tournament.

Lady Raiders blast 3 home runs to open district tournament
Coffee County’s Lady Raiders brought their big bats to the ballpark Thursday.
Three different Lady Raiders launched home runs as CHS went on to run rule Shelbyville 13-3 in the opening round of the District 6-4A softball tournament in Manchester.
Freshman Channah Gannon lifted a 3-run home run, senior Haidyn Campbell blasted a 2-run shot and senior Kiya Ferrell lined a solo bomb – all over the centerfield fence. Gannon also doubled home a run.
Ferrell finished 4-for-4 with 3RBI and a couple of runs scored. Coffee County outhit the Eaglettes 15-6 in the win. Jada Bowen and Madison Pruitt each punched out three hits for the Lady Raiders, Pruitt knocked in a a pair of runs. Emily Schuster also had a pair of RBI.
Kaitlyn Davis earned the win in the circle – scattering 6 hits and striking out 4. None of the 3 Shelbyville runs were earned, as the Lady Raider defense made six errors.

Sarah Virginia Walker Bridges
Mrs. Sarah Virginia Walker Bridges, age 94, of
Manchester, TN, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, in
Manchester, TN.
Mrs. Bridges was born in Manchester, TN, to her late parents John
Greenville Rogalle and Mary Rilda Rogalle. She was a caregiver for some of
her life and was a member of Red Hill Church of Christ. She very much
enjoyed her church and adored living in and seeing Tennessee. Mrs. Bridges
was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and was also an
advent gardener. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
husband, Milton D. Walker; sons, Milton E. Walker and Michael Walker;
granddaughter, Heather Walker; sisters, Alta West Taylor and Josie Crawley;
great granddaughter, Julie Byrd; brothers, John Rogalle and King Rogalle.
Mrs. Bridges is survived by grandchildren, Jaime (Jody) King, Jennifer
Rasha, and Melissa Rogers; several great grandchildren; niece, Gayle Arnold.
A private burial will be held for Mrs. Bridges.

Hazel E. Scott
Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel E. Scott, age 85 of Manchester, will be
conducted on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 11 AM in the Manchester Funeral Home
chapel with Bro. Ralph Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill
Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, from 4
– 8 PM and from 8:30 AM on Saturday until time of service at the funeral
home. Mrs. Scott passed away on Wednesday, May 4 at her home with her
family by her side.
Hazel was born on May 7, 1936, in Manchester, TN to the late Charlie
Washington and Lillie Mae Lowery Cornelison. She was a homemaker and a
member of the FCE Home Demonstration Club. Hazel was a member of the
Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Hazel was a loving and devoted wife,
mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her loving
husband, Clifton A. Scott, Sr.; sisters, Rosie Alene Harper, Shirley Jones,
and grandson, Jeff Vandagriff. She is survived by her children, Clifton
“Andy” Scott, Jr., Debbie Vandagriff and her husband, Derwin, and Kathy
Scott Birdsong (Ken Birdsong); grandchildren, Jennifer Simmons and her
husband, Neal, Nicolle Scott, Hayden Scott, Rachel Birdsong, and Greyson
Birdsong; brother, Charlie “C.W” Cornelison, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn;
sisters, Barbara Walden and her husband, James, Carolyn Kenney, and Frances
Winton and her husband, Joe; several extended family members and a host of
friends.

18th annual Dusty Elam Foundation Benefit is May 14
The 18th annual Dusty Elam Foundation Benefit is set for Saturday, May 14 at the Elam Farm – 5223 Woodbury Highway just outside of Manchester.
There will be food, fun and games to go along with a live auction and a musical contest – Dusty’s Voice Music Competition.
Also at the annual event will be field events, inflatables a dunking booth and face painting. Single tickets are $25 and 5 tickets are $100. Kids 12 and under are free – cost of food included with your ticket. Gates open at noon, live auction starts at 2 and Dusty’s Voice starts at 6 p.m.
Dusty’s Voice will feature a $1,500 first place prize. There is a 25 artist / band limit. Each artist or band will play 1 song or 5 minutes. $50 per entry. Tennessee driver centers down Thursday due to statewide outage
Tennessee Driver Services Centers across the state experienced a statewide outage Thursday, according to Tennessee Department of Safety.
As a result of the outage, driver license transactions can’t be completed at driver service centers at this time.
As of early Thursday afternoon, the outage was still ongoing.
The driver service center in Coffee County is located at 307 Industrial Blvd. in Tullahoma.

Manchester doctor indicted for unlawful distribution of controlled substance
According to the US Department of Justice, a Manchester doctor is facing charges regarding the unlawful distribution of controlled substances.
Yogeshwar Gill, 45, also known as Gary Gill, of Manchester, Tennessee, was charged by indictment with conspiracy to unlawfully distribute controlled substances, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 846, unlawful distribution of controlled substances, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 841, and maintaining a drug-involved premises, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 856.
Gill, a family medicine doctor, who owned and operated a medical practice in Manchester, was charged in connection with an alleged scheme to distribute opioids and Suboxone outside the usual course of professional practice and without a legitimate medical purpose. The case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Emily Petro of the ARPO Strike Force and Assistant U.S. Attorney James Brooks of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee.

Raider soccer downs Tullahoma in PKs to retain Coffee Cup
Tullahoma scored within the games first 19 seconds in the battle for the annual Coffee Cup Tuesday night (May 3).
But the Raiders shut them down after that. Coffee County tied the game and went on to win in a shootout over the Wildcats in Manchester to claim the soccer Coffee Cup for the 8th time in the past 9 years.
Down 1-0, Mike Arrunada tied the game for the Raiders to force a penalty kick shootout.
Izick Sierra nailed a kick to keep the Raiders alive, Tullahoma missed and that setup the winning goal for senior Josue Salinas. John Martinez and Manny Gonzales made the other two goals for the Raiders.
