MTSU Blue Raider softball season came to a premature close over the weekend.
Of note is the large workload that freshman Keri Munn – a former CHS Lady Raider – got for the Blue Raiders this season.

COLLEGE CHECKUP: Former Lady Raider delivers game-winning hit to give TN Wesleyan tournament title
Former Coffee County Central Lady Raider Haley Hinshaw delivered big time for her college softball team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Softball Tournament.
With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Hinshaw (a senior) ripped an RBI single up the middle for a walk-off win in the conference tournament.
The win gave TN Wesleyan a birth to the next round of the playoffs. It was Hinshaw’s only walkoff of her softball career. TN Wesleyan is a top 20 NAIA team in the country.

Three Rocket baseball players named to all conference team
Coming off the program’s first winning season in well over a decade, a third place finish in the D.R.V.C tournament last year, and an unusually shortened season the previous year, the Westwood Rockets Baseball team continued to add firsts to their program resume.
After going 12-7 in the 2021 season, the Rockets followed up this year with an overall record of 11-7 and a 5th place tournament finish.
The 2022 season was marked with the first double digit regular season win total, at 10. Although, the Rockets placed 5th in the D.R.V.C. tournament, for the first time in school history they acted as the tournament host at Fred Deadman Park. Voted unanimously by the conference coaches to host, the Rockets completed their 2022 season and tournament on May 4th. Three Rockets were named to the D.R.V.C. Tennessee gas prices jump 18 cents over past week; average price hits $4.08
The rollercoaster ride at the pump continues as the Tennessee state gas price average rose above $4.00 per gallon on Friday. Gas prices jumped, on average, 18 cents over the course of last week. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $4.08 which is nearly 18 cents more expensive than one month ago and $1.37 more than one year ago.
The average price in Coffee County comes in at $4.01 per gallon, which is 7 cents below the state average and 31 cents below the national average of $4.32.
“A tight global oil supply combined with expectations of high summer gasoline demand and rising crude oil prices are pushing prices at the pump more expensive this week,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Right now, the state gas price average is only four cents below the previous record set earlier this year in March. It’s unclear if we will surpass that record this week, but if market conditions persist, it’s likely we could set a new gas price record here in Tennessee.”
Quick Facts
· 50% of Tennessee gas stations have prices above $4.00
· The lowest 10% of pump prices are $3.87 for regular unleaded
· The highest 10% of pump prices are $4.42 for regular unleaded
· Every metro area in TN saw a double digit increase in its metro average over last week
National Gas Prices
Drivers are paying more at the pump—a lot more—as the cost of gasoline moves steadily higher. In the past two weeks, the national average for a gallon of gasoline has risen 20 cents to $4.32, a penny less than the record high set on March 11. The increase is primarily due to the high cost of crude oil, which was hovering near $100 a barrel last week and is now closing in on $110.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 2.2 million bbl to 228.6 million bbl last week. However, gasoline demand increased slightly from 8.74 million b/d to 8.86 million b/d. Increasing gas demand and rising oil prices have pushed pump prices higher. Pump prices will likely face upward pressure as oil prices remain above $105 per barrel.
Meanwhile, today’s national average for a gallon of gas is $4.32, which is 20 cents more than a month ago, and $1.36 more than a year ago.
National Oil Market Dynamics
At the close of Friday’s formal trading session, WTI increased by $1.51 to settle at $109.77. Crude prices rose last week after the European Union announced a proposal to ban Russian oil imports within six months, while refined product imports would be prohibited by the end of 2022. The price increases occurred despite continuing COVID lockdowns in China weighing down crude demand and EIA reporting that total domestic crude inventories increased by 1.3 million bbl to 415.7 million bbl, which is approximately 14 percent lower than the storage level at the end of April 2021. Since supply remains tight and the market remains highly volatile, crude prices will likely continue to fluctuate this week, potentially pushing pump prices higher.

Ways to Save on Gasoline
· Combine errands to limit driving time.
· Shop around for the best gas prices in your community.

Preds in 3-0 hole, brink of elimination
Nashville and Colorado combined for six power-play goals in Game 3, but it was the Predators who fell to the Avalanche by a 7-3 final on Saturday afternoon at Bridgestone Arena. The result sees the Preds now on the brink of elimination as they trail 3-0 in the Round One series.
Matt Duchene, Eeli Tolvanen and Roman Josi all tallied for Nashville in Game 3, but four of Colorado’s seven goals came with the man advantage as the series shifted back to Tennessee. The Predators say their 5-on-5 play was the best they’ve seen in the series, but the Avalanche took advantage of their chances to ultimately hand the Preds their third loss in as many tries.
“Tough loss,” Josi said. “Special teams were a huge factor tonight… We’ve got to be better on the power play, and be better on the penalty kill. Special teams are always a big factor. To get out of the box is always a big factor.”
“We did a really good job on the 5-on-5, and we know that we can play against these guys 5-on-5,” Tolvanen said. “We took way too many penalties. They scored four power-play goals. That’s one thing we have to clean up.”
Colorado had a 2-0 lead in the game’s first 16 minutes with a pair of power-play goals, but the Preds got on the board before the opening period was out courtesy of Duchene picking a corner on Avalanche goaltender Darcy Kuemper to bring Nashville to within one goal. Then, late in the period, Kuemper caught an inadvertent stick through a hole in his mask and left the game with backup netminder Pavel Francouz taking over
