One dead, one severely burned in early Monday fire in Coffee Co.

One person is dead and another received severe burns in a structure fire in Coffee County early Monday morning.
Area first responders answered a call to 689 Garner Rd. at approximately 3:22 Monday morning to reports of a structure fire.
Authorities have confirmed that a body was recovered from the structure late Monday morning once investigators were able to gain access to the structure. Authorities suspect the deceased is Joyce Garner, 57, but an autopsy will be performed for a positive identification.
“We have a potential fatality, but we can’t be sure until the fire is completely extinguished and we can gain access to the structure,” Allen Lendley with Coffee County EMA told Thunder Radio news Monday morning while firefighters were still battling the blaze. “One man was able to get out of the fire but he was burned pretty good.”
The structure is a total loss.
“There really isn’t much standing but the outside walls,” Lendley explained.
Coffee County EMA and state fire investigators will investigate the fire and determine the cause and origin.
The male burn victim — identified as Jesse Garner, is the owner of the home — was transported to Unity Medical Center and, from there, transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Jesse Garner is the brother of the deceased.

Unemployment just over 3% in Coffee County
Unemployment rates in nearly every Tennessee county, including distressed counties, declined during September, according to data released Thursday by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD).
Ninety counties experienced lower unemployment in September, while the rate remained the same in one county, and increased in four counties. The latest statistics show unemployment rates are less than 5 percent in 90 counties and 5 percent or greater in five counties.
In Coffee County, the unemployment rate is now 3.1%. That is slightly better than 3.3% in August and 3.4% in September of last year.
Several of Tennessee’s distressed counties saw significant improvement in unemployment compared to their August statistics. Rates dropped in 12 of the state’s 15 distressed counties.
