HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: More schedule adjustments for Raider boys

The Coffee County Red Raider boys basketball team has made more schedule adjustments

After stopping operations for 10 days due to COVID-19 exposure, the team has games to makeup with Columbia, Warren County and Franklin County.

The Franklin County boys game, which is supposed to be played Dec. 11, will now be played in Manchester at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18.

Meanwhile, both Coffee County boys games against Marshall County have been cancelled and will not be made up. The road Columbia game and home Warren County game that were postponed will be made up, but dates are not yet available.

The boys will return to the court on Monday, Dec. 14 when they travel to Warren County. All Red Raider and Lady Raider basketball games can be heard live on Thunder Radio.

Titans activate DB Chris Jackson from COVID list

The Titans on Thursday activated defensive back Chris Jackson from the team’s Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Jackson rejoins the 53-man roster and is eligible to play.

A seventh-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Marshall, Jackson has played in eight games for the Titans this season, with three starts. He’s recorded 18 tackles, including one tackle for a loss.

The Reserve/COVID-19 list was created for a player who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. Clubs may not disclose whether the player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19. Under the rules for Reserve/COVID-19, teams are required to address the player’s roster status once that player has fulfilled the protocol for their circumstance.

Unemployment data shows decrease in claims

A total of 939,311 new unemployment claims have been filed in Tennessee since March 15th, which was ten days after the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Current statistics show the number of new unemployment claims are on the decrease.

The most recent weekly calculations confirm that 6,886 new jobless claims were filed with the TN Department of Labor & Workforce Development for the week ending on December 5th. When COVID was at its peak, there were 116,141 jobless claims filed in one single week, which was the week ending on April 4th.

Over the past four weeks, there were 25,730 new unemployment claims filed in the Volunteer State. The four weeks prior closed with 31,856 new jobless claims.

Today, reports indicate that 46,404 residents are receiving unemployment benefits due to the economic impact of the Pandemic. Over $24-million has been paid to residents who were unemployed since March 15th in Tennessee.

Coffee County currently has 339 citizens receiving unemployment checks, as of December 5, 2020.

Tullahoma High School switching to virtual learning for remainder of calendar year

Tullahoma City Schools has announced that its high school will switch to distance learning on Monday, Dec. 14 for the few remaining days left on this calendar year.

The system issued the following statement:

“Due to an increase in positive COVID-19 cases in students, an increase in quarantined students, an increase in staff absences, and in an abundance of caution for the safety and health of our faculty, staff, and students, Tullahoma High School will transition to virtual learning on Monday, December 14, 2020. In-person classes will resume on Tuesday, January 5th. THS parents and guardians will receive further communication from THS administration.”

Manchester Police asking for help identifying suspect

Manchester Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying an individual.

According to MPD, on Dec. 5, this male subject allegedly left Octopus E-Juice on Hillsboro Blvd. with items that he did not pay for.

The Coffee County Central High School boys basketball team made a slight adjustment to its schedule.

The Raiders were scheduled to travel to Marshall County next Friday, Dec. 18 for a boys only contest at 7:30 p.m. That game has been moved back to Saturday, Dec. 19. You can listen to that game broadcast on Thunder Radio – 107.9 FM, 1320 AM, Manchester Go smartphone app and thunder1320.com

Titans make pair of roster moves Wednesday

he Titans moved defensive back Kareem Orr to the team’s “Designated for Return” list on Wednesday.

This designation will open up a 21-day window for Orr to practice with the team, and he will not count against the team’s 53-man roster until being activated from Injured Reserve.

Orr returned to the practice field today.

Also on Wednesday, the Titans placed tackle Isaiah Wilson on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list.

Grundy County Sheriff’s Dept. suspends inmate visitation

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department has announced that it is suspending inmate visitation until further notice.

The department says this is a precautionary measure to protect staff, inmates and the public from COVID-19 spread.
In addition, you must wear a face-covering to enter the sheriff’s department lobby. In an effort to limit lobby traffic, you can call 931-692-2428 for assistance. You can also request reports by emailing reports@gc-sheriff.com.
