Janet J Hall of Tullahoma passed this life on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at
Boulevard Terrace Healthcare in Murfreesboro at the age of 88. No services
are scheduled.
Janet, a native of Detroit, MI, was the daughter of the late Ernest and
Leila Roberts Gibbs. She was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening
and teaching Sunday school.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Gloria
Hollingsworth.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband, Cyril E. Hall of Tullahoma;
daughters, Jancy Traversa (Doug) of Tullahoma and Amy Fleming (Peter) of
Massachusetts; brother, Douglas Gibbs (Camille) of Arkansas; six
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Cheryl Roland
Cheryl Roland of Petersburg passed this life on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Elk River Health and Rehabilitation in Ardmore at the age of 61. No services are scheduled at this time.
Ms. Roland was the daughter of Bill Roland and the late Barbara Luna Roland of Fayetteville. She loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed camping and canoeing.
In addition to her father, she is survived by daughter, Amber Ann Davy (Chris) of Las Vegas; brothers, Jimmy Thompson (Bella) of Fayetteville and Lee Roland (Laura) of Fayetteville; sister, Christie Brown (Michael) of Pulaski; grandchild, Destin Davy.

John H. Roberson
John H. Roberson, 92, of Manchester, died Wednesday, Dec. 23.
Born in Smithfield, N.C., on May 24, 1928, Roberson graduated from Cleveland High School before earning an associate degree from Mars Hill College, a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University, and a master’s degree from West Virginia University. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and completed aviation training in 1953 at Malden Air Base, Mo., where he met his future wife, Bettye J. Wall. They were married March 28, 1953.

Roberson flew the F-86 and F-86D before becoming a civilian instructor pilot for the Air Force. Recalled to active duty in 1961, he flew the C-123 and F-4 and served in the Vietnam War in 1962 and 1969. He retired from the Air Force in 1979 while on the faculty of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. He then began a second career as an engineer for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, Mo. He retired in 1990 to Manchester, where he raised beef cattle and pine trees.
Roberson was an American Contract Bridge League Silver Life Master, a hunter and competitive pistol shooter, a woodworker, a lifelong Methodist, and until his last years an active volunteer for various civic and charitable projects.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye;, and by his sons David H. (wife Nancy) of Nashville, Mark S. (Christine) of Oldsmar, Fla., Philip W. of Concord, N.C., Alan Y. of Ormond Beach, Fla., and daughter Ann M. Young (Dana) of Chesterfield, Mo. ; and 15 grandchildren. His youngest son, John M., preceded him in death in 1972.
A celebration of lie will be held Monday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Manchester. Arrangements are by Manchester Funeral Home.
Effects of Christmas explosion in Nashville felt in Manchester
A Christmas morning explosion on 2nd avenue in downtown Nashville led to AT&T outages all across the midstate, Kentucky and Northern Alabama.
Impacts were felt right here in Manchester. According to the Coffee County 911 Communication Center, AT&T issues were affecting 911 lines over the weekend. These lines were restored late Sunday afternoon.
Outages were still visible on the AT&T coverage map as of Sunday.
Over the weekend, multiple businesses were unable to take credit or debit cards due to the outages.
On Saturday, Duck River Electric Membership Corporation provided a temporary number for customers to call to report outages and service emergencies. To report any such events, contact 931-224-4913 until further notice.
Coffee County unemployment rate falls nearly 2%
Each of Tennessee’s 95 counties experienced decreased unemployment in November 2020, according to new data released Thursday by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD).
Unemployment rates in 41 counties are now less than 5%. Fifty-four counties recorded rates of 5% or higher during the month.
In Coffee County, the rate dropped by nearly 2 percent as it gets closer to pre-pandemic levels. The November unemployment rate for Coffee County was 4.6 percent, which is 1.9% lower than the 6.5 percent rate in October. The unemployment rate remains 1.3% higher than November of 2019, which was 3.3%
Williamson County had the lowest unemployment rate. At 3.3%, its November rate dropped by 1.3 percentage points when compared to October. The new rate is just 1 percentage point higher than it was in November 2019.
At 3.6%, Moore County had the state’s second-lowest rate for the month. The new figure is 1 percentage point lower than its October rate of 4.6%.
Lake County recorded the highest jobless rate in November, but it still experienced a significant drop in unemployment. The county’s new rate is 8.1%, down 2 percentage points when compared to October.
Shelby County’s unemployment rate dropped more than any other county in the state. At 7.3%, it has the second-highest rate for the month, but it decreased by 3.7 percentage points when compared to its October rate of 11%.

Statewide, Tennessee experienced significantly lower unemployment during the month. The preliminary, seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for November is 5.3%, a 2 percentage point drop from October’s revised rate of 7.3%. The new statistic is just 2 percentage points higher than the state’s unemployment rate one year ago in November.
The state offers online options for Tennesseans searching for employment. Currently, on the state’s workforce development website, Jobs4TN.gov, job seekers can find more than 230,000 open positions in a wide range of occupations and skill levels.
TDLWD recently launched the Tennessee Virtual American Job Center (VAJC). The new website located at www.TNVirtualAJC.com allows Tennesseans to research different programs, from different state agencies, that can help them remove barriers to employment so they can more easily reenter Tennessee’s workforce. The VAJC allows job seekers to do this on their schedule, anytime, anywhere.
COVID-19 UPDATE: 645 active cases in Coffee County, vaccines begin flowing
There are currently 654 active cases of COVID-19 virus in Coffee County according to numbers provided by Tennessee Department of Health on Sunday.
There have been 64 deaths in Coffee County related to the virus and there are currently 69 people from Coffee County hospitalized with COVID-19 complications.
Across the state there have been 5,708 confirmed deaths related to the virus and there are currently 2,813 people hospitalized.
Across the state, 53,258 vaccinations have been administered. In Coffee County, 0.45% of the population has received partial vaccination – meaning one of two doses have been administered.
MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Rockets open Elkmont tournament Monday
Westwood Middle School’s Rocket basketball team is traveling to Elkmont, Ala. To open the Elkmont Boys Christmas tournament on Monday.
The Rockets will take on Elkmont at 5:30 p.m. With a loss, the Rockets will play at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday. A win will put the Rockets playing at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
After this week’s tournament, Westwood has one more tournament left to wrap up its season.
HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Raiders, Raiders off most of this week
The Central High School Red Raider and Lady Raider basketball teams have the majority of this week to rest.
However, the CHS Raider boys will travel to Columbia at 4 p.m. Saturday for a boys only District 8-AAA contest. It will be the district opener for the Raider boys.
The Lady Raiders are already 2-0 in district play – beating Franklin County and Columbia in December while the Raider boys were quarantined due to COVID-19 issues.
Elsie Alberta Davidson Woodard
Mrs. Elsie Alberta Davidson Woodard, age 84, of
Tullahoma, TN, passed from this life on Thursday, December 24, 2020, in
Fayetteville, TN.
Mrs. Woodard was born in Bedford Co., TN, to her late parents Jessie
Davidson and Ruth Rippy Davidson. She was of the Baptist faith. In her free
time, Mrs. Woodard was very involved in fishing and would go any time of
year no matter the circumstances. She also loved cooking and playing cards
and bingo. Mrs. Woodard lived her life to the fullest, enjoyed life and
loved having a good time. She will be missed by her dear family who she
loved so much. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, George Woodard; sons, Melvin Woodard and Clarence Woodard;
daughter, Francis Woodard; brother, James Davidson; and sisters, Willie
Sims and Betty Noon.
Mrs. Woodard is survived by sons, Jimmy (Barbara) Woodard, Larry Charles
(Ann) Woodard, and Daniel Woodard; brothers, Cecil Davidson, Jerry
(Carolyn) Davidson, and John (Vickie) Davidson; sisters, Lovie Mitchell,
Louise Wellington, and Theresa (Sammy) Northcutt; sister-in-laws, Margaret
Holman and Lily Woodard; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and
great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, from 12 noon
until 1:00pm at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, TN. Funeral services
will be conducted immediately following visitation at 1:00pm in the chapel
of Central Funeral Home with Pastor Theresa Northcutt officiating. Burial
will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Tullahoma, TN.
Ronald Dale Sons
Sons, Ronald Dale, of Wartrace, passed this life on Thursday, December 24th, 2020 at Unity Medical Center at the age of 77. Mr. Sons was born in Tullahoma to the late Emmett and Katie Lawson Sons. He served his country proudly in the National Guard during Desert Storm and went on to work as an Electrical Operator at AEDC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Darden Sons, who passed away just three days before he did; and one brother, Danny Sons. Mr. Sons is survived by his two brothers, Tony and Bobby Sons. A graveside service for both Mr. and Mrs. Sons will be held on Tuesday, December 29th, 2020 at Maplewood Cemetery with Bro. David Wall officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Alzheimer’s Tennessee, P.O. Box 1373, Tullahoma, Tennessee 37388, the Tullahoma Animal Shelter, 942 Maplewood Avenue, Tullahoma, Tennessee 37388, or the American Cancer Society, P.O.
