SOFTBALL: Big fourth inning pushes Lady Raiders to 4-2 win over Columbia Academy

Jada Bowen launched a home run and the Lady Raiders sent four runs across the plate in a come-from- behind 4-2 win over Columbia Academy Friday afternoon on the road.
Trailing 2-0, the Lady Raider rally got started on a double from Kaitlyn Davis. Bowen followed that by taking a 1-2 pitch over the centerfield wall to tie the game at 2-2.
Justus Turner followed that with a walk and Haidyn Campbell reached on an error after putting down a sacrifice bunt. Campbell later scored on a bunt by Ferrell
Keri Munn picked up the win in the circle – striking out 9 batters through seven innings of work. She allowed two runs on four hits – both were earned.
The win moves CHS to 3-0 on the season with three tournament games scheduled at Fly Park on Saturday.
BASEBALL: Pierce, Brown combine for one-hit shutout as Raiders move to 3-0

Chalie Pierce worked five strong innings on the mound and three Raiders had two hits apiece at the plate to power Coffee County Central to a 7-0 win over visiting Pope John Paul II Friday night at Powers Field.
Pierce was nothing short of dominant on the mound for the Raiders. The sophomore right-hander worked five innings and struck out 9 Knight batters. He walked two and only allowed one hit to pick up the win.
“Charlie has some really good stuff and he showed that for us tonight,” said CHS head coach Davis Martin. “He’s just a sophomore. A lot of upside.”
Braden Brown tossed the final two innings for the Raiders and struck out five batters while walking two.
“Braden, he really likes the role he is in for us. He loves it actually,” explained Martin. “His velocity is up probably 5 or 6 miles an hour and he does a good job out there.”
The Raiders plated four runs in the first and chased starting pitcher Kyler Oathout before he recorded an out. Part of the reason Oathout exited early was a 30-minute light delay after one bank of lights cut off.
The Raiders added one in the fourth and two insurance runs in the sixth to pull away. CHS was also able to take advantage of 7 PJP errors.
Spry led the offensive effort with a double in the left-centerfield gap in the first inning to score Griffin Meeker, who walked. He later drove in another run on a single to right field.
Nolan Jernigan and Carter McKenzie each picked up an RBI on the night.
The Raiders are now 3-0 on the year – having allowed just 7 hits through three games.
“That has been a point of emphasis for us,” said Martin. “Obviously that pace is hard to keep. But we know pitching and defense wins ball games and we are focused on that right now. “
Coffee County will have a home-and-away series with Tullahoma Tuesday and Wednesday.

Preds pick up 2-1 road win in Florida
Calle Jarnkrok tallied twice, and Juuse Saros was nearly perfect in his return, as the Nashville Predators defeated the Florida Panthers by a 2-1 final on Thursday night at BB&T Center. The result gives the Preds a pair of victories in the second half of their franchise-record eight-game road trip and their second win over the Panthers in five tries this season.
Jarnkrok’s two-goal performance came after a four-point outing in Monday’s win over Tampa Bay, and Saros was back in the net after missing seven games due to an upper-body injury. Those two will get plenty of credit, but once again, the Preds were able to grind out another road win against one of the top teams in the NHL standings.
This game was broadcast live on Thunder Radio – your exclusive home for the Nashville Predators in Coffee County.
