Raiders fall to Lebanon 6-3 in non-district game

Coffee County Central’s Red Raider baseball team managed a measly four hits and that simply was not enough in a 6-3 loss to Lebanon on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Wyatt Nugent doubled and had an RBI for the Raiders and Griffin Meeker singled in a run. But otherwise, the Raider bats were mostly silent. Carter McKenzie and Aiden Robertson each singled. As a team, Coffee County struck out 15 times at the plate.
Coffee County actually led 1-0 early after Lane Spry worked a two-out walk. Spry’s courtesy runner (Hayden Hullett) came around to score after stealing second, advancing to third on a wild pitch and stealing home.
But the lead was short lived. Lebanon scored 2 in the second, 2 in the third and 2 in the sixth.
Red Raider starting pitcher Jacob Holder was tagged with the loss. He gave up four runs over three innings. He allowed just two hits, but five walks hurt his cause. He struck out 5 Lebanon batters.
Wyatt Nugent allowed 2 runs in relief over three innings. He struck out three.
BASEBALL: Westwood swept by Moore County
Moore County had two explosive innings – scoring six runs in the third and six in the fifth to drop the Westwood Rockets 15-5 Tuesday and sweep the season series.
Westwood managed only three hits and committed six defensive errors in the loss.
Cayden Trail pitched two and two-thirds innings for the Raiders and Blake Hillis an inning and two-thirds. Trail struck out three batters and Hillis two.
Westwood is off for the remainder of spring break this week.
Preds win 6th straight
The streak has reached a half dozen.
Eeli Tolvanen tallied the game-winner in overtime, as the Nashville Predators came back to beat the Dallas Stars, 3-2, on Tuesday night at Bridgestone Arena. The result gives the Preds their sixth-straight victory and 39 points overall to keep them in the fourth spot in the Central Division. You heard the game live on Thunder Radio (your home for the Nashville Predators, thanks to realtor Charlie Gonzales with Weichert Realtors, Joe Orr & Associates).
Dallas carried a one-goal lead into the third period, but a rejuvenated effort from the Predators allowed them to collect at least one point before Tolvanen ended it with a beauty of a backhand in overtime for yet another tally in the win column.
Tennessee legislature passes bill to allow adults to carry handgun without permit
The Tennessee House has passed a permit-less carry law for handguns – dubbed “constitutional carry” by state lawmakers.
The bill now awaits Governor Bill Lee’s signature – which is expected.
House Bill 786 will allow citizens who are legally eligible to carry handguns without first obtaining a permit.
The bill also sets out to strengthen penalties for anyone who steals a firearm, felons in possession of a firearm and dangerous stalkers.
Currently, concealed carry permit holders have the right to carry a handgun, except in restricted areas. Republican lawmakers state that this bill will “extend that same constitutional right to carry a handgun without a permit to law-abiding citizens 21 and older or 18 and older for active members of the military.”
TN General Assembly bans human traffickers from getting commercial driver’s licenses
Both Tennessee House and Senate chambers on Monday gave unanimous approval to legislation further strengthening Tennessee’s human trafficking laws. House Bill 116 bars anyone convicted of human trafficking from getting a commercial driver’s license (CDL) in Tennessee for life.
The bill mirrors the No Human Trafficking on Our Roads Act of 2018 signed by President Donald Trump but is stronger because it does not only apply to perpetrators who commit human trafficking crimes while using a commercial vehicle.
House Bill 116 strongly supports a national effort to eradicate the appalling and heinous crime of human and sex trafficking by imposing tough penalties on those who exploit others. More than 11,500 reports of human trafficking cases were reported in 2019, according to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Unreported cases are believed to be significantly higher. House Bill 116 heads to the governor’s desk for his signature.
TDOT will halt interstate construction for Easter weekend
The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all interstate construction work this Easter weekend in anticipation of increased holiday travel.
TDOT crews and contractors will stop all road construction work that requires lane closures beginning Thursday, April 1 at 6:00 p.m. through Monday, April 5 at 6:00 a.m. This will provide maximum roadway capacity to motorists expected to travel across the state this holiday weekend.
Motorists will still encounter some long-term lane closures on construction projects that will remain in place. While lane closure activity will be stopped, some workers may be on-site in construction zones and reduced speed limits will still be in effect. Motorists are urged to adhere to all posted speed limits, especially in work zones, for their own safety. Slower speeds are necessary in work zones due to the temporary layout of the roadway and will be enforced.
Do your part to keep yourself and TDOT road workers safe – set your GPS in advance and Know BEFORE You Go, secure your phone in a Hands Free device, and Work With Us by moving over and slowing down when you see vehicles with flashing lights.

Idelia H. Lawrence
Idelia H. Lawrence , age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 29th, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Linden, TX, the daughter of Robert Franklin Humphrey and Lorena Wray Humphrey and is the last surviving member of their immediate family, including 7 siblings. Idelia is survived by her devoted and loving husband Richard Byron Lawrence (Lovie), daughters Lisa Gayle Kirkby (Kevin) of Smyrna, TN, Vicki Lynn Thoma (Bill) of Tullahoma, TN, son Randall Byron Lawrence (Monika) of Rome, GA, grandsons, Jason Greene, Matthew Perry, the late Ryan Lawrence, Cole Lawrence, Kyle Lawrence, Drew Lawrence, granddaughters Dr. Andrea Perry, Jordan Greene, Chandler Lawrence and ten great grandchildren. Faith and family were the foundations of Idelia’s life. She devoted many years teaching Ladies Bible Class and Sunday school classes at New Center Grove Church of Christ, where Byron still preaches. Singing was a passion for Idelia, especially during her youth, when her beautiful soprano voice was often highlighted and heard on the radio as well as other local singing engagements. A duet with Josh Groban would have been a dream come true. Football was another passion of Idelia’s with Peyton Manning being her all-time favorite player. Just as Idelia’s children and grandchildren, Peyton could do no wrong and she delighted in his two Super Bowl victories. Cooking was another of Idelia’s talents, and family and friends were often the recipients of her delicious meals. Most noteworthy were two favorites, pecan pie with her famous homemade, melt in your mouth crust, and Thanksgiving sage dressing. Idelia’s one of a kind Wedding Cookies deserves honorable mention as another family favorite. Upon her passing, each grandchild felt so loved by their Gran that they all privately confessed that they knew they were her favorite! She had a way of bringing out the best in her grandchildren, seeing and encouraging their potential. One of Idelia’s favorite Bible verses reads, ” But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31. Idelia’s family is blessed by the faithful and loving Christian example she set and lived each day. She will be deeply missed by all, especially her true love of over 67 years, Byron. Please join us for visitation on Wednesday, March 31st at Kilgore Funeral Home, 215 Mitchell Blvd., Tullahoma, TN 37388 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. For everyone’s safety, social distancing and masks will be required. A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 1, at New Center Grove Church of Christ.
