Firearm Information Privacy Protection Act advances in TN committees
Legislation that seeks to protect the anonymity of citizens related to firearm ownership is moving through the Tennessee House committee system.
Similar to the protections guaranteed by the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), House Bill 1171, also known as the Firearm Information Privacy Protection Act (FIPPA), will protect Tennesseans who are exercising their right to own and purchase firearms.
This legislation will create a Class A misdemeanor for any public personnel that intentionally discloses information about an owner of a firearm, for the purpose of compiling a federal firearms registry or confiscation of firearms. The bill will create a cause of action for a gun owner to pursue civil action against an individual that releases information about gun ownership in order to facilitate any federal government effort to confiscate or register firearms.
House Bill 1171 is expected to be heard for consideration on the House chamber in the coming weeks.
Tennessee Department of Health issues statement on Johnson & Johnson vaccine
The Tennessee Department of Health is acting upon recent guidance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to pause administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Our vaccine supply continues to surpass demand and we do not anticipate this shift will impact our efforts to vaccinate as many Tennesseans as possible. We continue to monitor the situation closely.
While the reports of serious adverse events after the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine are rare, six cases out of nearly 7 million doses administered, TDH is taking necessary precautions and is coordinating with our vaccine providers that may have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in supply to ensure those in our state who are seeking a vaccine have access to vaccines manufactured by Pfizer or Moderna. Both vaccines are highly effective at preventing COVID-19 after 14 days from the second vaccine dose. Both doses are required to achieve the best protection against the virus that causes COVID-19.
Individuals seeking a COVID-19 vaccine appointment can visit covid19.tn.gov or vaccinefinder.org to schedule an appointment with a local vaccine provider.
The mission of the Tennessee Department of Health is to protect, promote and improve the health and prosperity of people in Tennessee. TDH has facilities in all 95 counties and provides direct services for more than one in five Tennesseans annually as well as indirect services for everyone in the state, including emergency response to health threats, licensure of health professionals, regulation of health care facilities and inspection of food service establishments. Meeker pitches gem as Raider baseball drops first place Wildcats
Lawrence County visited Manchester Tuesday having not lost a District game in nearly a month – a one-run loss to Lincoln County back on March 16.
Now the Wildcats have two of those district losses.
Raider senior Griffin Meeker was locked in on the mound, not giving up a single earned run and striking out six over a seven-inning complete game that took him just 79 pitches to finish as the Central High School Red Raider baseball team dropped Lawrence County 6-2 in the first game of a two-game series.
The only two runs allowed by Meeker were unearned in the top of the fourth.
Meeker and the Raider defense got into a bases loaded jam in the third inning with nobody out. But Meeker picked up a strikeout and then induced an inning-ending, 5-4-3 double play.
Meanwhile, the Raider offense picked up timely hits – including a three-run bottom of the sixth inning to get Meeker some breathing room. Brady Nugent knocked in a pair with a double down the first-base line and two outs to expand the Raider lead to 6-2.
Braden Brown also had a pair of hits and a run scored. Wyatt Nugent had a hit, a run scored an an RBI. Jacob Holder, Lane Spry, Brown, and Nolan Jernigan all doubled for the Raiders. Meeker had a triple.
The Raider are now 10-4 on the season. The series moves to Lawrence County Wednesday.
Lady Raiders beat Shelbyville in 9 innings

The Lady Raider offense was definitely not clicking on all cylinders Tuesday night against visiting Shelbyville.
But Coffee County got runs when they needed them most.
The Lady Raiders scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to send the game to extra innings and then again in the bottom of the 8th to avoid defeat. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Kaitlyn Davis doubled and her pinch-runner Kurry Neel came across to score when Madison Pruitt reached on an error to give the Lady Raiders a 5-4 District 8-AAA win.
It was an unconventional kind of night for Coffee County. The Lady Raiders trailed Shelbyville 3-0 in the top of the third and then 3-2 after three complete until the bottom of the sixth when Kiya Ferrell worked a bases loaded walk to score Kurry Neel.
Ferrell, Chesnie Cox and Keri Munn each finished with an RBI. Davis led the way at the plate for Coffee County with three hits, including that double in the 9th. Haidyn Campbell also doubled for Coffee County.
Campbell and Davis combined to go the distance in the circle for Coffee County. Davis picked up the win over six innings of work. She allowed three hits and just one run – which was unearned. She struck out five. Campbell allowed three runs and four hits over three innings.
The Lady Raiders will host the Nashville Lady Knights at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. You can hear that game LIVE on Thunder Radio beginning at 6:15 with the pregame show. Listen at 107.9 FM, 1320 AM, 106.7 FM, Manchester go app and thunder1320.com
