H&R BLOCK STUDENT OF THE WEEK

(Pictured: College Street principal Tom Jacobs, Peyton Hensley and Rosalyn Partin with H&R Block.)

Join us at Thunder Radio and Rosalyn Partin of the Manchester H&R Block and congratulate our student of the week – Peyton Hensley.

Peyton is in 5th grade at College Street Elementary School in Karen Allen’s homeroom. She is the daughter of Britany White and Royce Hensley. Her favorite subject is math. When she grows up, Peyton would like to pursue a career in business. In her free time, Peyton enjoys playing volleyball and spending time with friends.

All students of the week are selected for their work ethic and excellent attitudes in and out of the classroom.

Rosalyn Partin, owner of the Manchester H&R Block, has been inspired to recognize great kids in our community all year long. H&R Block gives each Student of the Week a gift card, a commemorative plaque, as well as a special letter of recognition. Job well done, Peyton!

SOFTBALL: Coffee Middle Lady Raiders advance to semi-finals with win over Warren County

A three-run fourth inning powered by the bottom of the lineup gave the Coffee Middle School Lady Raider softball team the boost it needed Wednesday night in a 5-2 win over Warren County in the CTC Tournament in McMinnville.

Tucker started the fourth inning by working a walk, followed by a single from Samantha Cothran. McBide doubled to send both Tucker and Cothran home, then she later scored on an RBI single by Savannah Cooper.

CMS also picked up two runs early to set the tone. Cooper doubled home Ella Arnold and scored on an error.

Channah Gannon was solid in the circle for CMS, striking out 10 Lady Pioneers through 5 innings. She allowed 2 runs on 4 hits.

CMS is scheduled to play in the winner’s bracket finals at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, weather permitting.

Westwood softball survives with 15-0 conference tourney win

Westwood made quick work of Fayetteville City, piling up 15 runs over 3 innings to end the game early via mercy rule with a 15-0 win on Wednesday night in the Lady Rockets’ conference tournament.

Lily Norman had a solid night at the plate with a pair of doubles to go along with a single and two runs scored.

Everyone in the Rocket lineup reached base at least twice.

The Lady Rockets will advance to play at 7 p.m. Friday as they try to fight through the loser’s bracket of the tournament.

CMS, WMS each pick up golf wins this week

Coffee County Middle School’s golf team took care of business with a 10.5 to 1.5 win over Fayetteville at Pebble Creek on Tuesday.

Middle school golf scoring consists of earning flags and scramble-style scoring. For each pair of golfers scrambling, they earn a “flag” by winning at least 2 out of 3 holes – giving the possibility of winning 3 flags per pairing in a 9-hole match.

For Coffee Middle, every possible flag was won.

Tallan Crosslin and Braydon Kesling won their match 3-0, Cade Williams and James Bradley won 3-0 and Lorelai Rodriguez, Elizabeth McBride and Rylee Patrick won 3-0 to give CMS a 9-0 edge.

With neither team fielding a fourth match, those flags are split – leading to the 10.5 – 1.5 final.

Meanwhile, Westwood Middle School on Monday took a 7 flag to 5  win over Harris at WillowBrook Golf Course.

The Rocket team of Jack Stowe and Peyton Evans earned one flag and Landon Collins and Jaxon Phillips won a half.

Meanwhile, Colin Bryant, Ziya Dillard and Thompson Lowe earned 2.5 flags and the team of Leah Kate Sullivan, Amelia Thomas and Alyssa Harvey picked up 3 flags for the Rockets.

Big Payback event is set for May 5-6

Coffee County Children’s Advocacy Center Executive Director Joyce Prusak invites locals to participate in The Big Payback online event, set for 6 p.m. May 5 through 6 p.m. May 6.

The Big Payback is online at 6 p.m. May 5 through 6 p.m. May 6, and several local nonprofits are asking for the community’s support. The event, presented by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, encourages community members to come together and shower nonprofits with generosity.

The foundation is asking: “Give to the organizations that help make Middle Tennessee a place we’re proud to call home. Because giving always matters.”

One of the local nonprofits participating is Coffee County Children’s Advocacy Center.

“When the most vulnerable members of our community are harmed, they find a safe place and support at the Coffee County Children’s Advocacy Center,” said Executive Director Joyce Prusak.

CCCAC fights child abuse and believes every child deserves a happy childhood. The organization focuses on abuse prevention and helps ensure abusers receive punishment for their acts of violence. Founded in 2005, the advocacy center strives to offer top-level services while running a small operation, according to Prusak.

“Join our journey and help us fight child physical and sexual abuse by donating today,” Prusak said.

Among the organizations participating in the event are: Coffee County Humane Society, One Day of Hope of Coffee County, Imagination Library of Coffee County, Partners for Healing, Tullahoma Day Care Center, Haven of Hope, Tullahoma Fine Arts Center, Millennium Repertory Company.
